1. This isn't a thread to bash hiphop. So don't come in here and just say, "rap sucks," or to say, "IDK I don't listen to rap," because I'll verbally rip you a new one. Thats a promise.

2. D4L, Mike Jones, Pretty Ricky, Lil Rob, etc; is not hiphop so don't talk about garbage like that or someone will verbally rip you a new one.

3. Spark some nostalgia and bring up the classics.

After listening to Common's "I Used to love H.E.R." and watching Brown Sugar, I feel its necessary to ask this question...

When did you first fall in love with hiphop?

For me, it was when I was 5 years old and listened to A Tribe Called Quest's Midnight Marauders. Its the earliest memory of music I have.

Have fun, mafuckas. cool.gif

I fell in love with hiphop around 5th grade. When I first found Lauryn Hill, and started listening to her a lot. When all the girls were still into N*SYNC and Backstreet Boys. Everybody thought i was weird and ghetto because i had some Lauryn Hill playing, or i was obsessing over Tupac while they were giggling over one of the lead singers in a boy band. Then i got into more underground hiphop as well as mainstream.

I was in 5th grade, too. My friend introduced me to it. I don't know.. I can't really say I know a lot about hip hop, but what I do know/listen to, I sure like.

yell u tha truth it was just last year around this time. I heard it alot because people around me listened to it but they listened to crappy mainstream. When I broke my back last summer i started to hang out with different people cuz i couldn't play sports and most of my old best friends were jocks. These kids introuced me to these to cats from this rap group Beyond Measure. I quickly befriended and since then they have immerse me in the real hip-hop showing me some of the greatest to ever grab a mic.

When I first heard "Laffy Taffy" by D4L. That and Bow Wow's "Wanted". The song that got me to dig deeper to find songs with meaningful lyrics was K-Fed's "Ya'll Ain't Ready", a true classic in my book.

Don't get me wrong, I always liked hip-hop but when Juelz Santana came on the scene , he took it to a whole nudda level ain't now nudda brother gone reach.

Have you heard his lyrics? They killa man, especially in that Run it song.

QUOTE( Juelz Santana)
Make it drop honey...
Make it pop honey...
Whip, whop..
Tick, tock to da clock fo me
don't stop doin that
and shawty know I mean what I say so she won't stop doin dat

Thats some of the most sickest lyrics I've heard in a while.

Sarcasm doesn't go across to well over online forums, unfortunately.

I always had an interest in rap, I think what really got me into it was Eminem. I dunno.

I'm pretty sure it was back when The Real Slim Shady was his single.

^ I wasn't being sarcastic.

I actually love those lyrics. Why does hip hop have to always have meaningful lyrics? Why can't you have lyrics which incorporates the aspect of just having fun. I enjoy listening to wack lyrics, occasionally I need to get a good laugh in. If there were no such thing as wack lyrics, then there wouldn't be a reason to talk about impressive lyrics. So the reason I love hip hop , is because no matter what people may think or say about the music, it doesn't bother me because I enjoy it no matter the subject matter. However I really started listening to hip hop after I heard Pac's Brenda's got a Baby.

hip-hop dosn't always need relevant lyrics. the sickest sh!t to me is ill multi's clever verses and the occasional punchline. That had none of the above.

aneways i've been listnin to this cat mfdoom alot for the last coupla wks. i heard of him b4 but im jus gettin in2 his sh!t. aneone else feelin him?

I had always liked hip-hop as I grew up in the 90s and listened to "urban radio" but the first time I can really remember falling in love with it was when I heard Mos Def's "Umi Says" in the year before I started high school. And the year before that with Lauryn Hill's Miseducation.

And I'm falling in love all over again at this very moment listening to Black Star.
