i find

sexism, racism, and sterotyping offensive.

sexism - and who said women can't drive?
racism - the world is beautiful with diversed people
stereotyping - just because i'm emo doesn't mean i tell everyone my daily problems...jesus christ!
homophobia - you cannot forbid love!

Wow, at shoulder-length and they call you a dyke? What assholes. They're ignorant, they know nothing. Hair style does not always (but yes sometimes) determine one's sexuality.

Blatant sexism from women that has somehow found its way into being socially acceptable is offensive to me.

Also, girls who destroy any reason for there to be equal rights for females piss me off. This includes both the girls who don't know anything about life, and thus suck at it, and the girls who know too much about their rights and want to use it as a bargaining chip in EVERY SINGLE ARGUEMENT. EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE. (visit city: Valparaiso Indiana for more details) They can just get back in the freaking kitchen and make me a damned sweet potato pie for all I care. (Visit chauvinist: Joel for more details)

What offends me?
People thinking I'm Mexican, Hakujin... Yeah. You'd be surprised how many people don't guess anything asian. It's stupid. Oh, and people who tell me I'm too obsessive, I'll be just as obsessive as I like. -.-u
And then all the normal things. Racism, sexism (though my friends pretty much blurred that definition so much it doesn't mean anything to me anymore), homophobia.

I hate when white people tell me that I 'speak so well,' or that I'm so, 'articulate.' Reading into it, there's an implication that I'm so different because they somehow have this notion of black people being unintelligent.

While on the issue of race, I really resent the idea of 'dressing black/white' or 'acting black/white.' Its a new day, get out of the past.

I absolutely love when a woman embraces her own liberation, but there is a line of respect that women shouldn't cross. Whenever it turns into an argument as to who is the dominant gender, thats when shit has gone too far. Same thing with guys, chauvinism irks the hell out of me.

Blatant ignorance.

I agree. These black people from my summer camp were always asking me if I'm white even though I'm Asian! I'm like, "do i look white?" it's so obvious and it makes me so mad. I HATE when everyone assumes that all Azns come from China! Hello, I was born in Chicago! That's it, I"m never giving anyone a straight answer ever again if people ask me where I"m from. it's not curious, it's rude, especiallly when they just ask you out of the blue. Those black people from camp were really racist--how hypocritical of them. how stupid of them to think that a Chinese person like me is white. If someone asks me if I'm white, it's not going to be pretty.

Everyone pretty much said it... racism, sexism, homophobia.

Stereotypes bug the hell out of me. Just because I'm Asian, people who aren't assume a lot of things about me. And, because I don't fit the stereotype of a normal Asian sometimes, other Asians tell me I'm whitewashed. Everyone is different.

Using "gay" and "retarded" in the wrong context also makes me pretty mad.

Oppression of groups of people, EG "That's so GAY" or "You're RETARDED." This includes racism, sexism, etc.

To me, ignorance and the likes are more of annoyances...although someone ignorant can say something offensive.

for me its when someone cant take a joke, like when I tell a young girl to go lose her virginity for a laugh with the full knowledge that she is probably stupid enough to go ahead and get pregnant and/or get aids. That is funny, I'm sorry, if you cant find that funny, you are way too serious. However, I find it offensive when people think that I'm being stupid, I know you can get pregnant standing up for fucks sake.

I definitely have to agree with what most people posted in this thread already. Racist jokes offend me the most. I don't care if people are "joking" around, but it is really hurtful. It doesn't matter if the joke is against my race, it's still against a certain one, and it's disgusting how people laugh at them.

Also when people talk to me as if im stupid or I don't know anything. Especially the customers at my workplace. I find it very intimidating.

HAHA JAMES ILU.

but i completely agree with you about people using the word "gay" out of context. it really gets to me, especially the fact that all my closest friends use the word "gay" over and over again. like saying "this is gay" or "omg she is so gay"

oh and i have something to add. people saying the word "like" too much. ahh! it kills me.

Oh, and I have one more thing to add:
People who swear out loud that people 10m away can hear.
That really offends me.
I understand that people need to swear so they can release their anger, but keep it to yourself please. stubborn.gif

Also those who swear in every single phrase they say. Especially those junior girls who are "cool-people" wannabes. They just think swearing excessively is a cool thing to do. I bet they don't even know what the words mean.

P.S. to Yanners: ahhh sorry! I use the word "like" quite often in sentences. pinch.gif I should use a substitute for it next time.

^hahah but you dont seem like the kind of person who uses the word "like" as basically every other word of the sentence like some people i know.
our english teacher actually lectured our class about it, because for our oral commentaries, people were using the word "like" and "uhm" too many times.

okay, back to topic, brandon, could you please explain what you mean by

Why certainly!

I've tried my best to explain the difference between rap and hiphop on createblog, but my efforts go unnoticed. Rap being the garbage you hear on the radio and hiphop being the poetic artform that is greatly unappreciated. If you were to play D4L's Shake that Laffy Taffy (which is garbage) against Mos Def's Love, this distinction would be clear as a sunny sky.

Regarding my comment, its as if hiphop is this lesser form of music confined strictly to black people; and by that, I'm referring to the white (no offense) majority of America turning their noses up to the entire culture.

I love jazz music... with an icnredible passion. However, if someone white, over the age of 25, asks me what I mainly listen to, I say jazz quicly followed by hiphop and classic soul. When I say jazz, this look of pleasant surprise always comes across their faces, but when I mention hiphop in the same breath, I get the feeling that they're thinking, "Figures."

Hiphop needs to be shown in a better light and it needs to be respected. The popularity of all these bullshit rap artists on the radio can be accredited to their image and how the youth, regardless of race, somehow would like to emulate it. If Common were the platinum artist that the Ying Yang Twinz are, people outside the social sphere and influence of hiphop would be more willing to give the culture more credit.

The general population's attitude toward hiphop offends me.

People who try to be like others...

PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT COMPETITION!!! It sickens me.

When people ignore you...they won't pick up their phones or respond to your text messages (to my ex) lol.

PEOPLE WHO'VE GOT NO MIND OF THEIR OWN. There are sooo many of them on cB

People who decieve themselves (knowingly or un-knowingly). I'll explain.
For the moderator nomitation thingy, i noticed few staff members (i'm going to make it plural...there's a possibility that only 1 staffer did this, but it's better this way) nominated their friends who are NOT AT ALL qualified. Not because they were qualified, but because they are friends. Few people also wrote "(s)he posts a lot in the forums". DUH! Everyone posts a lot but it's all about the quality. If these nominees should get modded...i'll pee in my pants. Be f**king true to yourselves!. There are people i LOVE but don't see them as mods.

I find these acts VERY offensive. But i just have to live with it. It's life.

EDIT// people who think everything is about "God". No offense to christians but i think it's getting too much. I get bored in the debate forum. Quit basing your opinions on "God/Christianity/Religion"...pff

Rap and hip-hop= not really good. But i'll choose hip hop over rap without a second thought.

I find HYPOCRISIE OFFENSIVE!!!
I'm a f**king hypocrite. I got angry when evan bunnell said he wasn't attracted to black ppl or something like that (...i am just 100 % for my blk race than my white race)...when i wouldn't date an asian and i rarely date black boys. I actually have never dated a black boy in my entire life. The ones here in belgium are ugly... if only someone like the guy who posted before stanelythepanda lived over here.

I OPENLY APOLOGISE TO BUNNELL.

I'm offensive...sad.gif

Not really good, as in; its not really your preference? I don't like country, but I can be the first to attest to Willie Nelson's talent. Now if thats not what you meant, then you can be categorized with the 'general population.'

..ok. I meant rap and hip hop is kind of like erm...
Take 50 cent for example...he's an hip hop artist right? (_unsure.gif)...read his lyrics, wtf? I live in a french country so ppl usually don't know what they are saying. I heard a boy (12/13 yr old) singing: Get to kissing and touching a lil bit
Get to licking and f**king a lil bit.
WTF? If i should hear my child singing that, i'll kick his butt. They curse a lot in most rap/hip hop songs. But there are good ones though.

A lot of things are offensive, I agree with most social norms.

I get offended easily. I've learned in these past few days that while I thought I was fairly easygoing, it really doesn't take much to set me off. The main thing that offends me is when someone else acts like they think I'm inferior to them.

Example:
-a coworker with no authority tells me to go home because we're overstaffed, when she could just as well leave herself
-a fellow admin at another message board, same level as me, says, in my direction, that it's not a good idea to mess with the XMB tables if you don't know what you're doing
-a customer coming to pick up something I engraved acts like it's my fault that a name was misspelled, when it was really the fault of the salesperson who took her order (I ENGRAVE EXACTLY WHAT'S ON THE PAPER)

So yeah. I get offended when people on the same level as me go on power trips and start thinking that they're in a position where they can tell me what to do.

You know what I think is offensive? when people use homosexuality as a fashion statement...for example

QUOTE
A perky girl walks up to you to say hi.

You say hi back

then she meets your bisexual friend.

And she asks her if she's bisexual...

your friend says yes

and then the girl replies, "Oh i'm too! it's SO cool!

On top of that, I would say the general population's attitude and consumption of mainstream rap is rather disapointing. As you had said, the popularity of most rap artists is supported by a ficticious, and from those outside of that particular scene, often facetious image. Take nearly any mainstream rapper and imagine them "being their music video self" trying to do record business. Broken english isn't their lifestyle, it's their image. However mainstream rap artists get their fans to honestly believe what they're doing and singing about is cool is beyond me. Must be the same way mainstream rock stars makes depression, bad love songs, and teenage angst cool. How important is Crystal Chardonnay and Dayton rims anyway?

It's my conviction, however unauthorized I may be to make it, that mainstream rap artists are doing a real disservice to themselves, the black community, and anyone involved with their excuse for art.

i never had the benefit of experiencing racism, prejudicism(is that right?), sexism(is that politicaly correct?), and all that bad stuff. my social problems in society are almost none, with the exception of this guy at work who i cant wait till he leaves in january.

the only thing that i remember, other than him, that i found really offensive in life, was when i was in 3rd grade. This 5th grader, who i thought was pretty, called me wierd. and she said it in a way that really hurt, like, i was a living abomination or something. Ever since then, i really didnt like that word. you can call me the meanest racist, blah blah this and that, you can call me whatever you want. i wouldnt really care, i'd quite possibly laugh with you, at you, whatever the case.

but if you called me wierd, it would hurt. its traumatic. i guess.

Ah thankyou.

Now I see hiphop in a different light. People used to tell me that hiphop and rap were basically in the same category, which got me confused and therefore disliked hiphop/rap because of rap. hahah but thankyou for clearing things up for me.

-sexism [my mom said I can't dress the way I like simply because I'm a girl]
-racism [and people saying yeah racism is bad then go on to make racist remarks, aka my mother]
-sterotypes [I was told by my ex the other day that I'm stupid, because I'm blonde, to which I argued back reminding him my hair is dyed, his answer was yeah but it's in your skull. I really think he has a cheek since last year he said that if your pregnant you can easily get an abortion and it's everything is just peachy (eh...no...) and also if you're pregnant you can just punch your stomouch really hard repetitively(sp?) to kill the baby (sick...) ohh and if he pulls out before he comes it'll be fine, needless to say the relationship didn't last very long (2 days =X)
-people talking on msn like they talk in real life [it's like TALK FREAKIN ENGLISH DAMNIT, it really p!sses me off, it takes you all the time to figure out what they mean, for example:

me: hi
friend: awrite
(...)
me: what you up to?
friend: nm jst gonnae hoover nd dae the washin nd iornin
me: cool
friend: kool

I mean dude, cool is spelling with a c not a k and hands up who knows what that even means, sometimes I'd paste conversations to my friend and she'd be like wtf TALK ENGLISH, so I'd have to "translate" and seeing as she lives in america, people over there don't talk like that]
-people thinking that just because I'm small that I'm young [old people are small, and dude when I started high school (nearly 4 years ago) it was obvious, that because I was there, I was supposed to be there, a primary school kid wouldn't be seen dead in a highschool but these people arn't very smart, I got the people saying omg you're in the wrong place primary school is over that way. Or I'd be walking down a hallway going to a class and I'd hear someone behind me going "god, look at the height of her" I mean dude stfu, does it matter what height someone is, if it was down to brains, I could probably have beaten them all hands down. Trust me, Not only am I quite smart, they are extremely thick.]
-people not trying and then going omg look at you but when you try to give them tips they don't listen[you can bet your bottom dollar that every night at dancing, when we're warming up and streching, my friends are all like dude how can you lift your leg so high? eh...because you're holding it up(a warm up excercise(sp?) where you stand against a wall and someone lifts your leg up as far as it will go untill it hurts) if you would TRY to lift it up further and actually strech, hence the name streching, you might get as far as me, and when it starts to hurt, push a little bit more, and when I'm doing the splits they end up 6ft off the ground, I mean dude, if you wern't wearing trousers you might be able to go down further and don't freaking face that way, it's harder, but no, she continues to do it the hard way, and wear trousers because she doesn't like her legs, dude my other friend is alot fatter than her and wears shorts. Yes I do understand some people are more flexible than others but if you're gonna wow at me and then put yourself down for not being able to, at least try, and listen to me when I give you advice, also PRACTISE, like my friend, she couldn't do the splits, but like I told her to, every night she warms up then goes down as far as she can go and when it hurts she pushes a little bit more, but not too much as to pull a muscle or anything, and there's major improvement.]
-guys lieing to you [my ex has a new gf, I really couldn't care less, but I was talking to him and I asked him "do you love her?" and he said "it's hard to tell b.c we havn't been going out that long, but I think I do." considering they've been going out for longer than me and him did and he said that he loved me, proves that he was lieing to me. if you don't love someone or arn't sure then why go out with them and WHY tell them you love them? This guy is a jerk though, which brings me to the next point]
-guys being jerks [about my ex, k so he txts me out of the blue, I'm thinking wtf? then I start to run out of money so we start talking on msn, I start going on about how porn stars and the like only get where they are b.c they have big boobs, and then he tells me "you have nice t!ts" gah JERK]
-people, FRIENDS, who no doubt know what kind of stuff you're into, attempt to change you or for your birthday or xmas buy you clothes of THEIR liking [my last birthday my friend bought me an orange glittery top with vinatage over it, 1, it was too small, b.c me, unlike her, only wears tops that fall BELOW the hips. And she KNOWS more than anyone that my clothes are, most often black. But she still buys me this horrible glittery top that I havn't wore, although she did buy me nice earings]
-people that open their mouths and have no idea what they are talking about [it doesn't exactly offend me, in acctual fact I find it halarious, I have a pentagram necklace which I wear nearly 24/7, I was getting quite alot of comments, except, the people making these comments had no idea what it was. Although I was flattered, I wouldn't comment on something that I don't know about. Or something that is against my beliefs, I wouldn't comment on a cruicifix, nor would I buy one as a present for someone]
-people whining that they want to lose weight but never do anything about it [excercise, eat healthy, drink lots of water, and if you're doing that and havn't noticed any change, then go to your doctor who can give you drugs b.c maybe, like my gran, you have an underactive thyroid or something that causes you to gain excess weight. One exception is, my gran would be alot slimmer if it wasn't fir the fact that she stuffs her face with cakes 24/7]
-people that try to change you [I am me, I dress this way b.c this is how I like to dress, I eat this way because this is how I like to eat, I choose to be exactly how I am because I feel most confident this way and I like it. If you don't then that's your problem not mine, it shouldn't even BE a problem, if you don't like the way I life MY life then don't live YOURS the same. end of story]
-when people say they hate something and tell you not to do it then go on to do exactly the same [aka my gran, she says, don't talk slang, then goes on to say pailing instead of railing, aye instead of yes naw instead of no, and other such glaswegean(sp?) slang]
-people calling me posh b.c every other word that I say isn't swearing and every non swearing word isn't slang [It's not that I'm posh, it's just that I know how to talk proper english]
-when americans(no offense to americans that don't) that have the attitude they don't talk enlgish, or that the language they talk is better than english [it's not, english is, quite obviously english, when america was discovered, and during the erra(sp?) where there were alot of people moving there to further populate america, most of them(and correct me if I'm wrong) were english speaking, hence why america is an english speaking continent, languages change over time, so the english spoken in usa became slightly different fromt he english spoken in the uk. No language is better than any other, it's just a way of understanding people.]
-arrogance(sp?
-ignorance
-when people tell you that you're brainwashed just because you decide you don't believe in christian belifs [I was brought up not as a catholic, not as a protestant, not as anything, the reason being that when I was old enough, i could decide what religeon to be, my parents don't have a prblem with me being pagan, and neither do I, I know what I believe in, and I'm still trying to find a religeon that best suits me, but for now, that is paganism, and definately not christianity, I'm sorry, I have nothing against christians, and why should I they're just normal people, you shouldn't be judged by what you believe in, and neither should I, I'm not brainwashed.]
-when people talk behind your back(only if it's bad) or being two faced
-people staring [dude WHAT is your problem? can't you just tell it to my face?]
-when people think they're better than you [nobody is better than anybody, you can be better than someone at doing something but overall, as a person, you're not better, it all evens out in the end, your weakness is someone elses strength, no matter even if that person is disabled, I'm sure you've all heard before that alot of children with autism end up being practically computer geniuses, figuritively(sp?} speaking of course, and the best scientist(sp?) in the world(apparently he's the best) is in a wheelchair, he's paralized, and he presses buttons or something and the computer says the word. Or something like that. There's nothing wrong with the guy, he was just in a car crash or something.]

there's 101 million more things but this is more like what ticks me off rather than what offends me =/ yeah, so you catch my drift.

editt// also
-when people say "what are you looking at?" [pretty stupid really, you must be looking at them to know they were looking at you.]
-when people say "dude are you a lesbian?" [dude it's rude to not look at someone when they're talking, weather I'm polite or rude, doesn't determine my sexuality and fyi I'm as straight as they come]

yah my moms friend did. she was all like ugh you don't wanna be brainwashed with that stuff, watch out for people like that. I mean dude, that's kinda taking the p!ss, I think I'd know if I was brainwashed b.c I don't agree with EVERYTHING, if I was brainwashed I would and how the hell can you get brainwashed by reading up about a religeon online, I consider it benificial to learn about alot of religeons before deciding which one to join. It gives you a wider choice.
Anyways yeah, I was all like dude wtf ohmy.gif I cannot believe you're saying this to me. It's all forgotten now though, I don't hold grudges.
