help with div layers and transparency, WTF IS Z-INDEX!?! and how do u use it? Options

i want the kiby to:
-have a transparent background <-- most important
-go ON TOP of the blog area (see how its UNDER it)

i did! but i read the 1st line and i was like wtf!?

Note: This tutorial does not work on xanga. ONLY WEBSITES.

Some parts. Like the styles don't work very well... z-indexes still work, or should.

Z-Index only applies to objects that have the position property set to relative or absolute. It's kind of like layering - lower indexes are on top of higher indexes. (Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't coded in a looong time..)

i tried that, but, it didnt work... i really want that kirby on top (AND TO BE TRANSPARENT.... )

z-index just says what order you want the layers to be in on your xanga. Simpler explaination:

a div layer with the z-index of 1 will be the first layer closest to the page, and you build up. So your background will generally be z-index:1, and then your blog on top would be z-index: 2. (Or basically, layer #2)

Kind of explain it?

As for Kirby being transparent...you must make it transparent in photoshop. No code will magically cut Kirby out of the background. Open the picture in photoshop, designate a certain color to be transparent, and save as gif. If you're still not sure, I'm certain photoshop comes with its own tutorials on how to do this. Look through "Help".
