Ok so here's the thing. I like this guy, and he did like me. He's really shy and he won't tell me that he likes me and everything...so we're just friends now. I guess. So last night we were having this conversation on msn, and somehow we got to the topic about smoking and drinking..he told me he drinks ocassionally and have tried smoking. I was shocked...cause he seems like such a 'good' typo guy and everything..and its not like he's 17 and its legal for him to drink. He's my age which is 15 and its just freaking me out that I liekd a person like that.

First of all, being 17 years old does not make it legal for him to drink. At least in the United States, you have to be at least 21 years of age to drink.

Secondly, just because a guy drinks and/or smokes doesn't make him a bad guy. He can still fall into the ''good'' guy category. He said that he ''tried'' smoking and he ''occasionally'' drinks. He isn't a goddamn alcoholic drug addicted fool. Don't judge a person so easily. If you really like him, then you can get over the fact that he has done what the majority of high school teenagers do, anyway. Learn his personality and find out about him before you judge him for something as petty as that.

Yeah sure, although i really dont like smokers. but if he smokes just a few times, its really not a big deal. And he drinks occasionaly!? so what.. ? it doesnt mean he will be drunk all the time. I agree with Shahin, if you really like him, just get over these little things. because really, i dont think it will affect your relationship when you get one.

This guy seems more alcoholic than a smoker to me. If he occasionally drinks, it could develop into a habit, but if he tried smoking there's less chance of him doing it again.

Give him a chance for now, but if it gets worse, dump him. Don't waste your life on an alcoholic or smoker.

just give him a chance, if things get out of hand, then you know he's not worth your time. or ask him if he still smokes anymore, i mean occastional drinking is fine just as long as it doesn't get into a habit.

Hmm, I wouldn't want someone who drinks or smokes. But since pratically everyone drinks or has tried drinking these days, I guess it won't matter much, unless the dude is an alcoholic. Which reminds me, I should ask my crush that. Haha. But for smoking, yuck. Especially when studies say that second hand smoke seems to kill people more than the smokers themselves. Smoking is one of my biggest pet peeves anyway, so yea. I don't do either

Hmm, you can give him a chance. But I think you should find out more or something. You said he has tried smoking before, right? If he still does, it's probably a turn off for you right? Yuck, like who wants to kiss someone or whatsoever if their breath spells, eh? Lol. While for his occasional drinking, meh. As long as he doesn't get drunk and do stupid stuff, I guess that's okay.

But since you're like me - in the way that if I find out anyone I liked drinks or smokes - it totally turns me off and I will stop liking them. It's your choice in the end. Good luck!

Oh yea, I'm not sure where you live, but in Canada, the legal drinking age is officially 19. Younger teenagers tend to get older friends to buy them the drink or get fake I.D. cards. Sad >< At this rate, in the future, I wonder how young kids would start drinking

I live where pretty much every kid has gone through drugs and drinking.

And i have dated many people who are either addicted to weed/drugs or alchohol. I was raised around people who are addicts so i guess i know how to handle it.

But if he says hes TRiED drugs, it doesnt mean he takes a toke everyday. If he occasionally drinks, its true it might turn into more frequent drinking. But if the only reason you wont date him is cause he occasionally drinks, i think you should give him a try. If it becomes a problem, you can always break up with him.

Smoker, no. It depends on how he drinks. It's fine if it's mature and in moderation, but there's so many guys who drink to get drunk and party and do stupid stupid things, and then probably not. The occasional party, yeah, go for it. But habitually, or if he just really can't hold his liquor, then no.

smoking is a no-no. unless like he was forced to try it but didn't like it or w/e then its fine. as long as hes not smoking cuz he LIKES to smoke. then its a no-no.

I would never date a guy that smokes. That's just disgusting in my opinion. Yech. And I wouldn't date a guy that drinks either, guys aren't exactly gentlemen like when they are drunk. They turn into animals basically. I like a guy that has self-control.

Seriously, ya'll are taking this waaay outta control. This is life, a lot of young people have tried smoking at least once and have drank. It is nothing shocking, I think I read somewhere about how a hell of a lot of 13 year olds have tried a cig. once or twice. I'd say, date the guy. The worst that could happen is he still has smokers breath....from the one time he smoked. If his "ocassional" drinking is too much for you, move on. He will find a girl who can enjoy a drink once in a while.

Yeah for serious, you all take it way too seriously. I'm sure most girls would love to find that one guy that has never done anything bad like that or something but look at what the world is coming to, it's getting less and less likely to happen. If the drinking and smoking starts to get in the way of your relationship then I'd say you have a problem. Or if he starts presurring you into smoking and drinking then you'd have a problem. Otherwise, date the guy. Just because someone has tried smoking and drinks every once in a while they aren't some horrible person. Everyone deserves a chance.

it depends on how social they are about it, because doing that stuff socially is understandable but for me, the people who do it alone and all the time, it is just a big turnoff.
