In this story, the narrator becomes overly fixated on the eye of the old man he is taking care of. Associating the eye with a vulture gives it an overtone of evilness. This state begins to consume and overtake the narrator to the point that he murders the old man to destroy the object of his fixation. His heightened senses and the effect of his illness contributed to this fixation although the narrator insists his mind is rational.

To reproduce the nature of this horror, several approaches could be considered:

1. Develop a story that deals with personal or cultural superstitions and what could happen if this phenomena is realized.

2. Consequense of overly exaggerating and fixating on something to the point of consumption.

3. Mental illness or other sickness and the possible effect on rational thought.

4. Manifesting a nightmare into a living physical reality.

Hopefully this will help you get started. Let me know if you need any more assistance proofing a rough draft or anything else. Good luck!

Use repetition of the words to create suspense, which is really often used in The Tell-Tale Heart.
