NO!
American anime is totally different from the good ol' anime.
Anime shows that were brought from Japan and were dubbed to be put here are still anime.
Teen Titans is americanized anime.
I don't even think is it anime.

Don't blame Cartoon Network. Blame the licensers. ShoPro licensed Naruto. They're the ones who screwed it up. Funimation screws up Dragonball. 4Kids screws up One Piece.

And while I'm ranting, I'd like to point out that Anime was developed from American cartoons. After WWII, Japan and the US traded, they imported American comics, created Manga which was based from American comics, then created Anime from Manga.

It shouldn't be considerede anime because it's not anime. Anime means animation in Japanese, which is basically Japanese animation. American animation is not Japanese animation. Therefore, it is not anime.

Anime is Japanese animation. In other words, Cartoons from Japan.

your so-called "American Anime" is just American-ized anime.

So, American anime isn't anime at all.

Hey, I just call the originals (with japanese voicing and the like) Japanime, while Americanized anime (with English voices -- OH THE HORROR) is just called anime. I think that's what question is referring to? Anyways, Teen Titans--wait, wasn't that created in America, but they just put Japanese music as the song? Bleh IDK. Naruto--I have yet to see it haha. I haven't seen the dubbed ones yet. Yay for subtitles in Japanime!

But anyway, yes American anime should be considered anime, if it IS from Japan. I mean, they only difference is probably the censoring of things, maybe cutting out certain parts, and the voices. The drawings are still the same. Well okay, excluding One Piece (WTH, water guns?! stubborn.gif )

Manga is 10 x more awesome. But then again, there's licensed manga, where it is translated and licensed in America. I miss online scanlations. sad.gif

The thing about American made Animation and Japanese Animation is that one episode of an american animation show is usually a short story that has no plot substance and is cheaply animated. Although some, but very few, are not bad(plot and/or animation), a majority are just anoying crap that they put on the screen to cause ADD for little children(Spongebob is a great example). On the contrary, Japanese Animation is usually(of course, not always) usually is has a good story behind the great animation(mostly great, and cheaply done...very asian that way XD).

That is why I chose that Americans Animation should be called cartoons, since they are, majority, comical short stories.

Ok yes, Anime is short for "animation" from the french. And yes one of the main characteristics of anime is its japanese origin. (Please god dont say Japanimation)

BUT, the most notable, and the main characteristic of which to distinguish anime is its animation style. With more realistic movements and emotions, it has the ability to tap into a more mature genre and produce shows and movies which delve into romance, drama, and even sex. This is what seperates anime from other forms of drawn entertainment. Those pointy eyes, unbelievable hair, and classic anime sweat drops and other moments are what make anime what it is, not that it was made in a certain country.

Which is why there is a such thing as American Anime. They mimick the animation style of their Japanese counterparts and create their own storylines. Thus giving it that american touch.

So, in conclusion, yes there is American Anime, we're all using the phrase now, and its what will be used to describe american shows with an anime style. Just because a Golden Delicious apple is yellow doesnt mean its not an apple.

And just so you all know, Avatar the Last Airbender is an American produced show, and is written and created by Nickelodeon, but is animated in Korea.
