Image mapping/backgrounds, possible interpretation error

I think I may be trying to play soccer in a baseball field. That being said, here is my problem. If I wish to make a background for my blog site, so that the entire page is one picture and I post, etc on top of that picture, is that called image mapping? Or is that just a background? And what is the difference in examples please? Thanks. ermm.gif

thats called a backround

a image map is a banner type thing that you can click on ( read the layout tutorial)

I dont have examples because I stink at Image mapping I leave that to "my crew" meaning my brother. Basicaly though a button is like image mapping if I am correct

( I dont no beans about Image mapping so Some of my info might be misleading)

Image mapping is when you put links onto an image.
