I missed TWO WHOLE weeks of school because I had amonia(sp?). Well, I came back to school today, and the teacher told us there was a test tomorrow on adjectives (hmm..weird). I thought, "this is going to be a piece of cake. ITS ADJECTIVES"..then i read the adjective study sheet..totally confusing..

The teacher expects me to know all of these stuff..she's like.."oh..you should already know this"...

I finished half or most of the sheet..but two sections kind of confuse me. Can anyone answer the questions (the teacher gave me two extra days to study....I usually understand the questions if they're answered....)

Okay..thanks

Adjective Study Sheet

Need help on:

Directions: Underline the predicate adjective(s) in the following sentences. Draw an arrow to the word that it modifies. Circle the linking verb.

11. Many inventions have been useful to the food industry.

12. In a refrigerator, an apple remains tasty for a long time.

13. Thanks to canning, foods do not become spoiled.

14. Dried foods stay edible for a long time.

15. Dried fruits are tasty even after long storage.

Directions:Underline the noun or prounoun that is used as an adjective in the following sentences. There may be more than one in each sentence.

16. What if you did not have clothing fasteners or book-bag snaps?

17. All zippers, buttons, clasps, and laces on your belongings are important.

18. But a more recent invention is replacing the fasteners.

19. One of George de. Mestral's nature walks led to a startling idea.

10. A Velcro fastener consists of a hook strip and a loop strip.

Three more questions!!! Thanks if you answered _smile.gif

What is the verb in number 15? (is there even a verb?)

Write two sentences using predicate adjectives.

Sorry if I'm all rushy and rude, but I have a lot of other stuff to do. I also have a lot of stuff to catch up with...... _smile.gif wink.gif whistling.gif

THANKSSSS!

uhm thats not hard at all, adjectives just decribe something for example number 11 is "useful" because the wrd "useful" is describing the inventions for the food industry.

Sorry, but cB is not here to just give you answers. wink.gif We'll help you though.

Btw, this topic isn't in the right forum. This belongs in "homework" under "interests".

Topic Moved to Homework.

Good luck on your test, though.

I believe the adjective predicate is the adjective that takes the place of a verb in the predicate section of a sentence. Linking verbs are verbs that do not represent action but connect the subject to a verb/adjective, for example, "is, are, turned, seems,"

QUOTE
Linking Verb Examples

Keila  is a shopaholic.

Ising isn't something that Keila can do. Is connects the subject, Keila, to additional information about her, that she will soon have a huge MasterCard bill to pay.

During the afternoon, my cats are content to nap on the couch.

Areing isn't something that cats can do. Are is connecting the subject, cats, to something said about them, that they enjoy sleeping on the furniture.

After drinking the old milk, Bladimiro turned green.

Turned connects the subject, Bladimiro, to something said about him, that he was needing Pepto Bismol.

A ten-item quiz seems impossibly long after a night of no studying.

Seems connects the subject, a ten-item quiz, with something said about it, that its difficulty depends on preparation, not length.

11.) "Many" is the predicate adjective. The word it modifies is "inventions" and the linking verb is "have"

No, because "many" is not in the predicate part of the sentence--it is in the subject part. A predicate adjective is an adjective that occurs in the predicate ("after the verb") part of the sentence. In #11, "useful" is a predicate adjective: it is an adjective that occurs after the linking verb and modifies the subject.

Basically, a linking verb is a very that is not an action. Forms of "to be" (is, has been, etc.) are examples of linking verbs. The predicate adjective occurs after the linking verb but modifies the subject.

Generally answers aren't given out here; we're willing to help you learn, but not do the homework for you.

My description of linking verbs and predicate adjectives is accurate (I was, at one time, an English major after all _smile.gif ), but I'm not the greatest teacher, so I may have been a bit unclear; read my post and then if you have specific questions you would like clarified, feel free to post a more specific question.

The homework section is for helping people with their homework, not for doing other people's homework. It says so in the forum rules. http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58163 wink.gif Please read them.

Eh, I don't think that works out very well. I agree with what Michael said, "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime."
