Video is thinner then normal ipod, has bigger screen, finally has voice recording and is same price too.But it doesn't have Divx or Xvid support, and has no Fast forward or rewind. Which makes it harder to get movies to work. Unless your willing to convert everything.(videos I mean) to the apple h.320 or something codec. Plus it's screen is smaller then most PVP's. But bigger than most DAP's.

Well, I guess it depends on what you really need.

I just need something to hold about 400+ songs, to look cool, and be miniature.

I have no need for a multitude of songs, like... 1000+ nor videos.
I just need something small to carry with me so i can listen to my favorite songs at good times.

I dont have time to get videos and/or watch them...

I'm getting a Nano.

I heard somewhere that if you were gonna invest in a mp3 player, you should get as much memory as you can. Even IF you don't need all say 20gb. [Budget-wise.]

Then again... are you actually gonna use the video function that much?

You may think you don't need all that memory, but you probably will.

In my case, I got the Mini because I didn't think I'd need more than 1,000 songs and boy, was I wrong.

Personally, I saw the ipod video and it looked like a regular ipod to me, but that it was thinner. For some reason, it felt just as heavy, probably because it's wider than the original ipod. I find it pointless to watch movies on a such a small screen, but things jsut keep getting smaller and smaller nowadays lol.

I already have an iPod nano and personally, I like it mainly because I only care about songs. it holds 1000 songs anyway, which is a lot for me. Plus, it's tiny. :]

Although, the ipod video is a definite must-have if you're really into portable devices that hold video. I'll ONLY get an iPod video if they ever UPGRADE it to the point where you can take pictures too. Sorry, but I find it pointless to have pictures, unless you can actually take pictures. Wouldn't that be cool? :]

It would also be MUCH cooler if my iPod nano was a phone.. *sigh* if only.. Bleh.. :/

yea i just saw both of them today at best buy. for 50 bucks more the new ipod is a great deal. but i choose the nano just because its much skinnier and like i need that. it works with me.

but if you want 30 GB i suggest the ipod. its slightly wider and skinnier too.

My thoughts exactly lol. If someone really wanted to do all that stuff with their iPod, maybe it's better to get the video. It just depends on what one wants to do with their iPod.

and to TYPiKALFEMME - It's okay, I'm not mad or anything. Everyone has their own opinions, and I'm very openminded. Some people say it's too small, some say it's amazingly small that they want one. It just depends... I think size does matter though. If I wanted to watch movies, I'd rather have the real deal (dvds) and actually BUY a plasma tv or lcd screen to watch on. I hate watching things on such tiny screens. But if I was so much into wanting to watch things on my iPod, I'd get the video. But that's not me, so yea lol. But I'd say it's a good choice because when yout hink about, for such a great price, it's worth it only because in the past, iPods were so much more expensive for more space, and wasn't in color, nor could it play movies.

Let's see.

I'd wait until Apple comes out with a video iPod that plays more formats, or else I'd just get something from another company to play video with. Because at the moment, the iPod seems to primarily be a MP3 player still.

However, if it was a choice between the iPod 5G (video) and the Nano, I'd get the iPod, or at least until after the conflict with Apple getting sued over the Nano is over.

You see, the screen of the Nano scratches exceptionally easily, because the protective resin on it isn't as thick as the old iPods or the iPod minis. Lawyers have sued Apple for this already, and hopefully soon, Apple will make them with a thicker screen.

I haven't been keeping up with that though, so maybe they've already started making them with thicker screens. =/

^ But I heard it's not for sure.

What I find really ignorant is that people can countlessly complain that the screen scratches easily, when they could easily remove the scratches. I heard Displex (something like that?) and Brasso has removed it. Although, I'm not for sure about Brasso since Tom Dailey says that it does remove it but a few people who tried it said it didn't make it any better, while others said it did. I guess you have a 50/50 chance. Either your nano gets worse or gets better.

Secondly, they could always just go back and bring it to the apple store have it checked out. Yes the screen gets scratched. It seems like the glossy feel of the nano is much different from the mini, although it's claimed to be the same. Who knows? Half of the people don't believe that it's made from the same plastic-coating, the other half don't believe that there's the same amout of coating--that there's less coating.

Thirdly, if the screen gets cracked or scratched to the point where the screen isn't viewable, I believe the warranty can take into effect. Just don't call the customer support--you'll be wasting a call.

there's supposively a lawsuit about this, but personally I think people are taking this WAY out of proportion. People tend to exaggerate, saying "OMG IT SCRATCHED SO EASILY AND ALL I DID WAS PUT IT IN MY POCKET!" Well no DUH it scratches easily. That's why you get a SCREEN PROTECTOR, shield/skin, and/or case.

My nano's scratched on the back, but not on the front. I'm glad becuase I've been taking precautions. :]

Well, I'm getting the Ipod Nano since the new Ipod does not work with my computer. Plus, I don't need all that other suff the new Ipod comes with. The nano hold 1000 songs...good enough for me! Plus, it's really tiny, so it can fit in my pocket. For me, the nano is the best choice.

man im still confused; i really do want the nano but im just paranoid & scared for the fact that i could or might be one of those people who do have the screen scratched up..then end up wasting my money on it. but i have my mind switching back and forth over the nano and the new ipod video..personally i really dont care for the video capability. But what i love about the new ipod is, the memory storage + the price is great for it. I'm just going back&forth to get the nano or not, i wonder if i do get the nano and get a case like this CASE..do you think it'll protect it? Sigh. Apple should make a new version of the nano, so the screen isnt so sensitive then people wouldnt be as paranoid as me. A pro for them is, they probably wont get anymore lawsuits..haha okay dont mind me..

The nano screen scratching issues are not that widespread, contrary to what the media would make it out to be. And by all accounts, as long as you follow common-sense care practices, it's not really an issue. If you keep it in a case when you are carrying it or storing it, it will probably be fine.

^ my thoughts exactly. I don't know why people are going crazy over it. It's said that only 1/10 of 1% of all iPod nanos have a screen defect--it's covered by warranty because if the screen gets cracked or there's dead pixels or anything like that, they will send you a new nano. Anyone ordering the nano legally from any store gets the warranty.

Also, think about it--if you had something that was expensive and you wanted to take special care of it, wouldn't you put it in a case? Such as a cell phone--some people put it in a case because they are afraid of getting them scratched. The iPod is no different.

TYPiKALFEMME - I'll get back to you on the nano's cover. We're ordering a different one--I'll let you know once i get it lol. The one I have now is okay, but it totally ruins the appeal of it haha. Boo crystal shields. I'm sure my next cover will be great. :]

Wait, isn't the iPod video easily scratchable too since it seems to be of the same type of coating and thickness of coating on it? It's the same glossy feel.

If this refers to my post..

It's not that the nano breaks easily (Click to read an article about the destruction of an iPod nano), but rather that it scratches easily. This article proves that even by running over it with a car and dropping it didn't damage the player internally, but rather externally. The player still played. And iPod is meant for music, not for people to parade around with just for it's appeal. Sure it's nice because it's small, but it's meant to be used as a mp3 player, correct? A $10 grand diamond necklace, on the other hand, is just for appeal. The gold (or silver, or platinum) chain will start to get dirty after regular usage. Similar to a nano--it will get dirty and scratch after regular usage.

It only breaks if one attemps to break the nano, or that there was a defect within the system (which is in part, apple's fault, only affecting 1/10 of 1% of all nanos, which are replaceable due to warranty) itself. a 10,000 necklace would be carefully crafted, since it's worth so much.

Yes it is apple's fault for making it easily scratchable, but remember that by taking special care, it will be fine. There isn't a majority of defect with nanos. I'm just so sick of people complaining when they could've taken precautions.

I expect this would be the same with iPod video, since it's just as glossy.

Well, yes, but it took quite a bit of abuse is the point. Anything will break given enough force; it's the amount of force that matters.

Yea after like, running over it with a car. And then after doing so much damage, it later broke. Seriously, who's going to do that a Nano? blink.gif I mean, it's $200+ dollars anyways. Yes it breaks in the END. That's becuase they've damaged it in a various ways. I believe, after running it over with a car, it still ran and played music, even though the screen was all white.

^ Exactly.

I accidentally sat on my nano. Hahah but it still works fine. It's not like, I'm 500 pounds and I FELL on the nano from 1000 ft. up.

The nano because I don't need to have my entire library of song everyday. Its just a waste of any extra $50-$100 depending if you get the 2GB or 4GB. Plus the fact that I would never watch any videos on such a small screen. Like come on do you think its really good to watch something on such a small screen? Personally I would rather watch stuff on my regular tv or wide screen.

Though its not like the nano is all that good either. It gets easily scratched and alot more breakable in comparision to that of the old ipod mini.

The original is the best, I think. But the nano is soo cute. My friend brought one to school the other day and I could close it completely around my hand. I just saw the commercial with the video one, and I guess that's pretty cool too.
