How does everyone feel about the misplaced children of Hurricane Katrina? Were parents irresponsbile for the separation between them and their children? Or is the government to blame for these misplaced children due to their slow response?

Oh that is so sad. I dont really blame the parent because they might not be able to hold on any longer or they just slipped away because the hurricane was too strong. So most likely, I dont blame nobody.

I can't really blame the parents.
Unless they WANTED to.
But I highly doubt it...
I don't think anybody should be blamed.
But I do blame Bush for responding too late.

I don't think anyone is really to blame for the misplaced children. Trying to survive in a hurricane is challenging in itself. I can only imagine how chaotic it must have been to be in the middle of a natural disaster of such magnitude and it must have been nearly impossible to keep your family together. People were bound to get lost in all the confusion and panic, and there wasn't a lot that people could have done to stop it.

The government could not take any action to help New Orleans without the state specifically asking for help. The governor of Louisiana waited till the last possible minute to request help from Congress. It's understandable that in all of the chaos that goes on during the hurricane, it would have been especially difficult to contact the government. However, they were aware that hurricane was coming their way, so they could have asked weeks ahead of time and gotten the assistance they needed.

Although I agree that the rescue efforts were not as well organized as they could have been, it was the best that could have been done under the circumstances in regards to time sensitivity.

But, I digress. It is neither the parents' nor the government's fault that children got lost during the hurricane. Loss and confusion come hand in hand during a natural disaster like this.

Yeah, I don't blame the parents, I don't blame the government -- at least not he national government (aka Bush)-- if you really study it, like yummy_delight mentioned, the governor or N.O. waited to the last possible minute. From what I hear the whole government system is pretty corrupt over there. Everyone keeps blamin Bush when he issued the emergency evacuation as soon as he could.

You can't really blame anyone for that. I mean, honestly. It must be hard enough to deal with that.. I'm sure they'll find their families. And if they don't it's not like there aren't tons of nice new parents that would be willing to adopt them.

whenever something that horrific strikes, the first thing you think about is yourself. fight or flight, that's how human beings work...besides, everyone was freaking out so it's not the parents' fault that the kids disappeared from their sight...

like everyone stated, you cant blame anyone.
in a time of crisis, it's hard to do anything, let alone take care of a family, especially when being relocated and being forced away from your home.
