Blogger Skinning, for first timers

okay i was a first time blogger skinner about two hours ago... and now im pretty sure i've got this whole thing down.

website designers: this is going to be a breeze for you.

Blogger skinning is basically like website designing. You can even skin in dreamweaver! its totally customizable, whereas xanga isnt, and u customize everything in xanga using css.


just design a webpage

then where ever you want your blog to be, make a div

inside that div put the blogger tags in.

here are the blogger tags:

Start with
CODEBOX: -> right click -> copy/paste


for the date:

CODEBOX: -> right click -> copy/paste


blog title number:
CODEBOX: -> right click -> copy/paste



for the posts:

CODEBOX: -> right click -> copy/paste


for the post footers
CODEBOX: -> right click -> copy/paste


end with

CODEBOX: -> right click -> copy/paste




easy right??!

two hours????
thats crazy!

I've been on xanga for a month and i still don't quite get it.

so, lemme get this straight. Using blogger, you could/should(?) still use CSS while doing things, just within the div tag for the certain part?

I'm still really lost. Good thing xanga is n00bie.

u dont have to use css at all if u dont want...

you can use any html...

AND thnx to me, we found out that you can make ur blogger on FRONTPAGE or DREAMWEAVER and copy paste the html. Nekked u still havent put the thnx to me on ur siggy laugh.gif

Ok im just gonna post up a brief tutorial on blogger. I learned alot and hoping to be a blogger mod soon laugh.gif here goes.

Ok, the main page is www.blogger.com so look around the site for a while.
To sign up, click the sign up button, or somthing similar if they change the page layout. After you sign up and do everything including your first post, on the right of the blogger.com screen should be a small box that says YOUR BLOGS

On mine, the one that says Come see His Grace, is the title of my blogger. It allows you to see your blogger, whether you want to see your skin or etc. If you click it, it will take you to a page where you post your new....err....post. On top, there should be a few links that say Posting Settings and Template.
Posting, lets you post another post.
Settings lets you change your website page title and description.
Template is where you put your Blogger template that ill be designing soon. In the mean time, use nekked's.

Under it, it says Create a new blog. Note that you can have more than 1 blog meaning new skins to tryout and a skintester w/o creating a new account.
Edit you profile lets u change you name, email, etc.

On the blogger main page, there are Blogs of note and Fresh blogs. This is like xanga's Newly updated Content and Featured Content. In the middle of the page are some news.

FAQ

Q: How do i get some help on my Blogger including problems and such?
A: On the main page look at the top right of th screen. There should be a small box (orange) with HOME ABOUT and SUPPORT. Click support and follow the steps.

Q: Do you have to pay for it?
A: Nope its free like xanga, but for 15 a year, you can host it on blogger w/o ads imagehosting and such

Q: Will Blogger work on a Mac?
A: Yup it will! We believe other browsers will be compatible with the Classic Interface as they evolve. However, Firebird and Camino are all still in beta testing. Safari has just recently gone final and there are known issues which affect the Blogger application (link and style buttons).
Blogger will re-evaluate how these browsers perform with the Classic Interface.

Q: Why choose Blogger over Xanga?
A: Not saying you should. Xanga is more popular and easier to control and such. Blogger in way mroe customizeable and the skins are in <html> format.

Just go to the Bloggers skin place and look how the code works.
Try incorporating some images or color schemes.

=)

Hmm... can you explain the div part a little more?

So basically, if I wanted a date and entry, I'd just put:

[date code] (some line space code) [all the codes]?

you make your webpage:

so lets see.. u get ur image.. (image map if u want)

What do you mean by Xanga HTML? Well, you can't use the same tags as you would usually use in Xanga...If you have a question, you should ask it in Blogger Help. wink.gif

i haven't tried xanga cuz im too happy with blogger.

p.s: a big plus for blogger is that after its latest overhaul, it provides unlimited free picture hosting! you have to download a program which they provide on blogger called Hello!

That's just a tag in your code that shows that you got it from Createblog. It doesn't effect your code at all.

Yup, I love blogger and xanga equally. The thing about blogger is the e-mail posting. I love being able to post to my blogger through e-mail. You gotta go premium for that on xanga.

For all of the people replying and saying they don't know how...LEARN TO MAKE WEBSITE LAYOUTS FIRST!!!! lol. Reading over this tut. it implies that you have a knlowledge of HTML. If you do, then you are more likely to get it than others. I think that solves many problems...lol.

Yall's schools let you go to blogger and xanga? Those sites including .tk sites are blocked by our school systems Sonic firewall. "This site is blocked and your actions have been recorded" lol.

I think a lot of the problem is the fact that you can have multible blogs on one account, so some people (esp. coming straight from xanga) get confused with "user name" and "name of blog" and "url of blog" and all of that neat stuff...

hello...can i ask sth? for my blog skin, whenever i add an entry, the page will go longer than ever. how can i make it such that all the entries are in a FIXED box with a scroll bar so as to prevent the "UNFIXED" box for entries to go longer. biggrin.gif

i wish to add, if you have friends using other journal they could comment on your blogger and leave their link unlike in xanga you should be a xangan as well...

don't get me wrong, i love xanga as well..

i need help!

editing my blogger template is impossible!

i'm completely new at this.

i mean, i've used livejournal and that wasn't so hard. i got the hang of html and the bb codes and whatnot and i don't know if this sounds completely stupid (i'm sorry!) but i can't get any of the codes to work. something about the 'Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.' bit. i honestly have no idea how to get around the widget thing.

if anyone had the time to read this rather lengthy cry for help and can help me, please please please let me know! :]
