GREAT movie. Not really a war movie... focuses more on the characters, soldiers in this case. Gives you a glimpse into what our soldiers go through when they're out there protecting our country. It's a great story and the performances are superb as well. I highly reccommend it.

I saw it and I was not impressed. I left the movie thinking what was the plot? Where was the climax? The acting was good and the cinematography was great. There were a few good scenes but other than that I cant rave much about this movie. I just left the movie feeling like something was missing.

I saw it last night.
I was impressed, as I was expecting to be. The cinematography was spectacular. The characterization was really impressive. They let you know the characters and feel for them without it being all "boo hoo here is my pity story". The music worked well with everything as well. (I really liked the placement of "Don't Worry, Be Happy". )

i know i made this topic, ut the movie sucked.

heres what i said about in the "best war movie" topic when i was talking to levy.

i know perfectly well what the movie was about: A frustrated Marine sniper waits for Operation Desert Storm to get going. Then it's over before it even begins. it tells us almost nothing we haven’t heard before about the dejection and disillusionment of men in war, up to and including its summation that “Every war is different; every war is the same.” i mean, it has numerous arresting moments, but never achieves a confident, consistent or sufficiently audacious tone. basically the film never comes to life. It just languishes in the desert, waiting. its an unimportant movie non the less. dont get me wrong, i was very excited to see it too,(hell i made a topic about it) i didnt expect it to be some action filled war movie, considering "duh" its desert storm.

and its certainly not a classic. because it doesnt have alot of depth.

but i did love some of the cinematography

its just not a very interesting story, and im not the type of person thats like "yeah there should've been shooting!!!" no. the stoy line just wasnt that interesting nor moving. but if you liked it more power to ya.

i guess we all have our opinions. we all have our different perspectives. to me, this is one of the best movies i've seen in a while (check out my movie list on my myspace, comes with dates watched). it's more of a comedy than anything else even tho it's suppose to be a drama too... the storyline i see is, the biography of a man... or a jarhead. it's not really a war movie, that's just the setting. i read some comments from former marines and found the movie really good.

anyways. what i just wrote made no sense but i don't care....

you have to look at it that it was based on a book and those movies based on books are never that great...

In the trailer, I think "Jesus Walks" is the perfect song for it. That movie looks sad, but I really don't know why. lol I probably won't see it cuz I'm not into the war business.

i thought it was really funny...but i didn't like how dirty it was. i wish it was more of a war movie because it really wasn't. everything was about how sex deprived and horny they are while they're away.

so many people i know hated it...but i thought it was good. sure, there was that 5 minute scene where he's in the stall...you know. and yeah..there's that scene where those guys take off their shirt and..you know.

but that's not the point. the movie showed military life at a different angle...it was refreshing to see something that wasn't so saving-private-ryan-ish...

i dunno...i probably dont make any sense, but the movie kicked ass...better than the fog :-/.

Saw this movie with Sammi. Aside from Sammi squeaking every 5 minutes, I enjoyed it. I've got alot of friends that went over to iraq, and they came back with pretty similar stories. (I'm aware it was the first iraq war in the movie)

If I didn't have any friends in the military, I probably wouldn't have cared about it as much.

Sorry for bumping this topic. Just finished watching the movie and I have to say, the acting was spectaculer. Although, when my grandma saw the nudity in the first part...she was not happy. Overall, a very good movie.
