student council, friend vs friend.. Options

Okay, well it's not really student council. More like band/orchestra council.

But anyway.

Two of my friends are running for vice president. One of them, let's call her Jane, had wanted the spot since like, last year. The other, Fred, didn't really even care until the three of us were talking about it one day, and Jane said, "I'm going for vice." And then Fred said he would go for it too, probably just to piss her off or something, but all the same, he's running for it. Thing is, he's like, a lot more popular than Jane, so he'd most likely win.

We all have this friend, named 'Leo,' and he's being pretty mean to Jane. He goes parading around going like, VOTE FOR FRED!! and everything, although it's pretty obvious Jane would make the better vice president. So now Jane is pissed off at Leo for acting all Fred-supporting-ish (i guess that's a way to put it) because Jane and Leo are also friends and she's mad that he's not supporting her at all.

And chances are, Fred's going to win. Which will just make Jane 1000x madder, because he'd only be winning by popularity. And I think that Jane should just go for historian (the scrapbooking/camera person) because I think she's pretty good at decorating and stuff like that, but she keeps saying she doesn't want to.

So in the end everyone's just going to be pissed off at each other.

What now?

Friends don't treat each other like that. If Leo's being that much of a gloat, then you should not vote for Fred. Fred probably recruited him secretly. I say talk it over with him on how he's gloating and whatnot, and talk to Fred about it. If Leo's too full of himself, then find a better friend. You'll stay have Jane, right?

eh i don't think fred 'recruited' him secretly, theyre just good friends. and leo's not full of himself, he's not even the one running lol .. blah it's just .. ridiculous, and annoying .. and Leo isn't like, bothering ME exactly .. i mean, he's voting for me for pres. and everything, he's just making jane mad and i hate it when my friends are all ticked at each other

Have Jane talk it over with Leo ( or Fred..). Maybe come with her? I think that'd settle it out... I think.

why don't you just vote for jane and leave it at that?
i ran for positions against lots of the "popular kids" for stuco, orchestra council, njhs council, and i've made it every time.

i'm not exactly sure why, since i've never advertised either, but the main thing is to not back down and be confident.

don't let a position get in the way of a friendship.

Hmm..I would just stay out of it..Or ask Fred if he's going to seriously do the job if he does get elected..Because if he doesn't, its just a waste of having a election..But if Fred says hes serious, then just stay out of it..There isn't much you can do..
