tank full when katrina hit, so i should be good for a couple of weeks if my dad doesn't drive my car...

i thought it was only supposed to spike to $4.00, and stay there for 2-4 weeks.

i remember back when a 15 gallon tank didn't get more than 20 bucks a fill -up.

i have a 13 gallon and it's 33 bucks to fill it up.

It's because of the hurricane in Florida...the prices of gas will be going down, don't worry. _smile.gif

it jumped 20 cents today! its like $2.89...by tomorrow it will be 3 damn bucks.

btw, my mom drives a ford excursion, and when she puts in $35 worth of gas (when on empty)....she gets LESS than a half a tank. $70 fills our SUV.

Yep, it'll might reduce obesity population. whistling.gif

It's a great idea, it'll get more people to involve into outdoors and physcial activties. i guess the U.S.A will hide gas from us for their mechanic and president's airplane.

Damn, six dollars?
I thought three dollars was over the top.
Knowing the state I live in, there are going to be more people walking or taking the bus rather than driving their own cars pretty soon. That's not a bad thing - I'm just making a statement.

EDIT//

Dude, I remember that gas went up about twenty cents yesterday within a few hours here. I walked to school and it was $2.79, so that was about 7:30 or so in the morning. My mom drove by there later in the afternoon at about noon and said it was $2.89. I then walked home from school about three hours later (about 3:45) and it was up to $2.99.

Yeah. mellow.gif /end rambly post

No, it didn't. The shipment has been stopped because of the conditions of the harbor.

And it's scary, but I've experienced worse. When I was in Guam a gas container blew up and we had no gas for three days. THAT was scary.

Duh, it's crazy. But as Americans we've been very spoiled when it comes to gas and it's abundancy. Maybe now this will serve as a wake up call.

Easy, everyday solutions:

- Mass transit
- Carpool
- Biking
- Walking
- etc.
- Blah...

I'm sorry, but I find it quite annoying the way everyone (not just on cB) is complaining. In Europe gas can be more than $5.00 a gallon...ON A NORMAL DAY. In Hong Kong it costs more than $100 to fill up the tank of a small SUV. Think about that..

The difference is, in Europe, they have a fairly well-developed mass transit system, especially with trains and buses. In the US, a city might have a bus system or a train/subway system, but it's inconvenient and often times expensive, or even impossible, to take mass transit from one city to another; and if you live in a smaller town, forget mass transit. Walking or riding a bike also isn't effective if you have to go a long distance (say, 10-20 miles).

That's precisely why the US government should be encouraging the development of a mass transit system in the US, instead of giving unnecessary tax breaks to oil companies; and why people should be encouraged to drive fuel-efficient vehicles, hybrid cars, or even electric cars, instead of fuel-inefficient vehicles like SUV's.

Americans do it per gallon, ours is per litre. It's actually up to $1.25 at some places where I am.

People in Europe and HK have much shorter distances to travel, and they have a much better public transit system. People in the Americas drive out of necessity a lot of the time, where a privately owned car in HK is a major luxury

My city isnt all that big compaired to NYC or LA, but it is pretty good sized. Our mass transit system sucks, all we have is buses, and they dont stop in very many locations. My city is too spread out to walk anywhere, so almost everyone that lives here has to drive.

Releasing oil reserves might not matter a whole lot. The prices aren't due to a lack of oil. We have plenty of oil. The capacity to refine the oil into gasoline is down, though.

It was around 6 bucks here (around ATL, GA) for a day or so. Now it's between 3-4:stubborn: My grandparents (whom I live with) have a van & whenever they get gas, the pump stops at $60 dollars & that doesn't even give us a full tank!! And that was when gas was around 2.80. Luckily, they filled the tanks of both vans like, an hour before the price jumped three more bucks. pinch.gif
AND it's rumoured that we're going to completly run out of gas around here, so there've been lines of cars going out into the street from people trying to get gas before that supposedly happens. And because of that, gas stations are actually running out FASTER. Most of them won't get more gas until Monday/Tuesday.

Alright, I'm done ranting now... rolleyes.gif

I suggest investing in hybrids. Seriously.

It is estimated that by 2029, countries will be fighting over the very last barrel of oil.

Its amazing how you people blame Bush for the lack of oil in the world. The real main reason why its getting expensive is because its being used up.

Honestly. What the f**k. Did Bush killed the dinosaurs too?

That was one of the most ignorant things I've heard in a while. Don't talk about things you don't know about.

It's around 6 bucks here (around ATL, GA)  My grandparents (whom I live with) have a van & whenever they get gas, the pump stops at $60 dollars & that doesn't even give us a full tank!! And that was when gas was around 2.80. Luckily, they filled the tanks of both vans like, an hour before the price jumped three more bucks.

^ people love exageration.

it's hit 2.99 here.

i think we'll top out at 3.50

when the stations run out of gas, and have to shell out extra to buy gas, that's when we'll see the increase

so next week it will get worse.

You are a f**king idiot. First, we don't own Iraq. The people know perfectly well that we're trying to help, and if they think we're trying to take over, they would definitely rebel. The only people who are attacking soldiers now are Islamic extremists and anti-Americans. Also, the flow of oil from Iraq is doing fine.

And, holy crap. The troops are 'dying' for our protection, not for oil. If we wanted to take control for oil, why didn't we go for Kuwait or Saudi Arabia? It was plainly visible that Iraq had its eyes on America. It would have happened one day, but it was prevented.

Oh, by the way, this is also largely OPEC's (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Nations) fault. They caught that people will pay a lot for oil, and therefore, they raised the prices. Saudi Arabia also recently decided to raise their prices. The price of gas will continue to go up until the country threatens to stop transactions with OPEC. I believe that at this point, OPEC will be forced to lower prices or lose their large profit.

However, I don't think the US will be able to risk that much for a while.

Its between $2.99 and and $3.15 here.

last night i went out with some friends... the place we went to was an hour away... so i went... no gas stations had gas on the way there... no gas stations with gas there... and on the way back, i was praying to go i didn't run out of gas... about 10 minutes before i got to my friend's house... the gas light came on and i drove on... to his apartment... i was too afraid to make the drive home because i live 20 minutes away from my friend and i still had to go to work in the morning... i was up at 3 in the morning calling gas stations... They'd pick up and say "No Gas." not even a Hello... I slept for 4 short hours to wake up and start calling places yet again... I found two gas stations with gas... just two. And the one I called was just getting gas when I called... So I raced over there... to face 3.99 per gallon gas prices. 40 dollars to fill a 10 gallon tank. I'm glad the mpg is good on the car... thank god for economy cars... but i damn that hurricane to hell. =[ So, I still have to go to work... on 4 hours of sleep... I have a headache... and I hate gas prices.

i think gas here is up to a little over $3 now.

this could go on for months because of the whole hurricane thing.

we kinda sound selfish, but theyre the ones that built their city below sea level when it was originally above.

only 11 percent of refineries have been closed. gas stations still had gas- the rising price was based off of consumer scare.

and, it's refineries in the south that are hit. gas is needed for generators, buldozers, etc. but the people up north are freaking out and buying up all the gas.

clicky

It's well over three dollars here, and Oklahoma was one of the last to get above two dollars because we have our own oil stuff here. We're always lower than everyone else.

Blehhh. It's terrible here, there's only a station or two in the entire city that actually has gas. Even then, it's over $4. I miss Gwinnett, there was a station on almost every corner. Here... it's just trees and pastures and tractors and water. Ew.
