here's one way to "improve the community"...

Don't suspend/ban members for creating spam topics... it just gives them more of a reason to spam and bitch about createblog.
For example, when they get unsuspended... they'll just come back and continue to spam . Also, there is a createblog chat room that these 'banned/suspended spammers' go into daily and talk about how much createblog sucks.

Now, let's say a newbie comes into that chatroom... Word spreads... and createblog's reputation then goes from great source for blogging needs to... uptight community.

--P.S. I'm completely serious about this topic.
By the way, one swift kick towards the crotch will surely stop them.

They're IP-banned. mellow.gif They can't come back.
And besides, they're breaking the rules. So we can suspend them. Now, what do you suggest we do instead of suspending them?

that's like saying that putting people in jail is pointless because when they get out of jail they'll just go and break the law again.

what are you gunna do? keep on warning and warning them until they eventually stop? (if ever?) suspending is the best and perhaps the ONLY thing that you can do to stop people from being idiots and spamming. if you keep suspending their account and they continue to break the rules, then you can just IP ban them for good.

is the spam really THAT bad? doesn't createblog have other things to worry about other than simple spam? Are there certain mods that get the honorable duty of searching for spam all day? Haha.

why would cB WANT spam? to be quite honest, i dont see your point at all. i think you're just trying to piss people off...and you seem to be doing a good job.

edit // if you absolutely hate cB soooo much, why do you continue to post on it? THATS what i want to know.

At least they are trying to lower the spam and everything.. they are just trying to make it better.. so ppl stop complaining about SPAM just don't do it! How hard is that? I can understand if you're some newbew and got no idea wat you are doing.. then that's okai.. cuz you got no idea what you are doing..

So staff/mods i greatly appreciate wut you are doing cuz i knoe it's hard... but keep up the great work!

oh jesus christ... i'm not even going to bother explaining myself to you. And you're getting off topic... so hush, now, please. If you'd like to carry this on feel free to pm me... but talking about this in this topic is pointless.

Spam doesn't annoy me, at all... So the biggest problem with spam is that it slows down the forum... that's completely understandable. But let's just make sure that ALL the mods warn people who are spamming... And that they REMEMBER to PM the person and tell them why they're being warned... for what reason the warning is for... and what topic the warning was given off of. That'll surely help. Ahem.

well, maybe you're right about that. but that's not why you made this topic--it says that you don't think mods should suspend members even when they constantly spam/create pointless topics. that's completely absurd.

Nowadays we don't tolerate the spam topics.. especially the ones in feedback. A verbal warning is given, and if the spammer continues, it's warning and suspension. For the spam accounts (you can tell), it's automatic suspension for 500 days. At least that's what I go by.

LoL! yeah you ban 1 IP Address, what about the other 254 IP Addresses?can or can't be used? what about proxy's ? what about IP Tunnels? what about 2342884 Anonimity softs, like anonymiser?or whateva?,the only way to see if what you are saying, works for sure, ban yourself, then change your IP Address, and try login again.

PS:How can you make the difference? how you know if you banned his proxy and not his realy IP Address, easy Q,lets see the answers.
PS2:When 1 user doesnt obey the rulles, lets say 3 times, dont do the same mistake and ban "his/her IP Address" , i know you can do`it like 123.123.123.*,so even he is using a proxy,IP Tunnels,or anything else,it will be more easy to ban him like that, then to ban 1by1 each IP Addresses.(AND HE CANT COME BACK FOR SURE,UNTILL HE/SHE GETS ANOTHER IP ADDRESS RANGE CLASS;)
PS3:Or more easy, and less time,if you have in your admin panel, like on usual phpBB forums, the option "Disallow names/usernames",that will help for sure, only with 1-2clicks.

Thank You
Enjoy.

There's a point at which most pro-active attempts at IP banning will suffice. Say a user gets banned by IP. Sure, he might reset his dialup connection and get a new IP, or he might connect through a proxy. So you ban him again. Maybe he'll get a new IP and spam again. So you ban that. Eventually it's just going to be a waste of time for him, and he'll stop because it's too much effort. People don't spam because of a strong desire to cause trouble; they spam because it's a relatively easy prank. As soon as you make it difficult, the spammer becomes less and less interested in the prank.

that apply's only for noobs ;-)
I still think the best choice is to disallow/disable the username for uhm (like someone said) 500 days. (more faster, even he/she creates another username)
example. banning 1 IP Range Class (like 255 IPs 1by1) requires more time then 1-3 clicks to disallow/disable an username. And it can happen that "the spammer" to login from an Internet Caffe, and from that IC other normal users login's too,by banning the "spammer" you can make the mistake banning other "normal ppl" who are not involved in that issue.

PS:I had this problems too, when i was admin,so i know for sure, that not everytime is a good ideea to ban IP Addresses, when you have 93492394 users, not knowing from where they login.

Thank You
Enjoy.
