This summer I have been rushed to the ER by ambulance five times and have been admitted twice. I have recently been diagnosed with vasovagal syncope. Basically, I'm a lot more prone to faint than any other person because my vasovagal nerve doesn't function like it's supposed to. I also have low blood pressure, so I need to add more salt/sodium to my diet than normal. I've been drinking a LOT of Gatorade lately because it's high in sodium and has extra electrolytes. The thing is, I'm getting really sick of it. Does anybody have any food or drink suggestions that are high in salt or sodium and electrolytes but are also healthy (not chips and fries and stuff)?

QUOTE Foods high in sodium: Some of the worst culprits are processed meats, things like sausage, bacon, luncheon meats. Three slices of lean ham has 1,025 mg of sodium, which is almost half of our daily recommended intake. Smoked fish is another culprit for being high in sodium. Read the labels on canned vegetables, canned soup, canned tomato-type products that are typically high in sodium. One cup of canned soup will have anywhere from 600 to 1,300 mg of sodium. Frozen dinners can have anywhere from 500 to up to 1,600 mg of sodium Pretzels can be a low-fat snack but a quarter-cup of pretzels can have up to 700 mg of sodium. Pickled products and sauces you cook with can be high in salt. You can also go here: USC Guide to Foods High in Sodium I'ts probably a good source, considering it's USC. ![]() |

Yea powerade isn't quite as good as gatorade....have you looked into sobe? some of them I believe would work well, but you'd have to look into it. Basically look around into any of those energy or sports drinks, other than that, there are few foods that have lots of sodium/electrolytes....unless of course you decide to walk around with a salt lick...

I don't really like Gatorade much either, because personally, I don't like the taste that much. It only has a bit of flavour.
