After attempting all sixty-one pages of this forum, it's not surprising to say that only a handful of compositions are skillfully written – and all written by the same few writers. It's not surprising, at least not to me, that the average thread in this forum receives only a few replies, at best; it's not surprising that the mindless drivel fools like to call "raps" receive pages of feedback, while a well thought out piece is overlooked and is lucky if it even gets two replies. But then again, said pieces are rare – hard to find among pages of other sorts of nonsense: finding love, complaining about life, losing love, expressing sadness and depression, dying for love – it's all so common. It's not a wonder that this forum is underappreciated – it seems that nearly all of its authors don't understand what true writing is: you children flock to the forum to post up all of your most recent chicken scratch. Is there any meaning behind your words? Any emotion? Any significance at all? And is there anything that sets it apart from everything else? No, of course not. That's why people disregard this forum. Everything's banal; it's all clichéd.
Yeah, it's different from other shit I've written. HM, I wonder why. |

That was excellently said, Anna. I agree completely. You made some very, very good points. The rap threads get two or even three pages of repetitive comments, but then the other pieces of writing only get a few measly replies. It ticks me off to see some good writers and good pieces get neglected because of the pointless rap "disses" and mindlessly written poems getting in the way. Since when did quantity overcome quality?
Anyway, great job on this. ![]() |

In order to become an "official" member of cB, a person is required to maintain an average of 5 posts per day. If the majority of those posts were required to demonstrate the "art of writing," cB would no longer exist. The nature of cB is contrary to the recognition and creation of thoughtful and articulate posts. Henceforth, the writing forum is woefully neglected and infrequently visited.
If this thread could reach into digital art with a collaborative contest, it might help draw some talented artisans who may be gifted writers. A promotion to the community center subforums might also help. Extra posting credit for contributions that meet a set of established guidelines may generate more interest in this forum as well. |

By no means am I asking everyone to demonstrate the art of writing - it would just be nice if people would visit the subforum once in a while or put a little thought into what they post here. I mean, I love writing and I hate for this subforum to go to waste; I love this subforum, but that doesn't mean that I'm most active here - and even so, even though I do adore this forum, I'm still an official member (bleh, disregard the fact that it's pending - I used to be one until I picked a fight If this thread could reach into digital art with a collaborative contest, it might help draw some talented artisans who may be gifted writers. ![]() |

Ahhh...I see. I think this forum would generate more interest if it was visible. I think the idea of promoting it to the community center subforums would increase traffic dramatically.
If you're serious about wanting to promote this forum, I'll gladly help in any way I can. |

QUOTE Ahhh...I see. I think this forum would generate more interest if it was visible. I think the idea of promoting it to the community center subforums would increase traffic dramatically. Sounds like a double-edged sword to me. Yes, the writing forum is great, but wouldn't we see more clichéd writing by more people? Yes, more people would come here, but we would also see more clichéd writing & raps as well. The thing is, we want quality writing here, and that's why we want people to come. But we also run the risk of seeing more clichéd writing and maybe even more raps. |

But we also run the risk of seeing more clichéd writing and maybe even more raps. I'm not exactly sure what I'm asking for.. probably just more response to the works in here. I calculated the average replies for each topic in each of the community subforums, and it's not surprising that this forum, writing, has the lowest, around seven or so. Even the homework subforum surpasses this, with an average reply per post of nearly ten. And that just, for lack of a better word, sucks. QUOTE(mipadi @ Aug 10 2005, 2:23 PM) Either that, or unoriginal poetry. Prose doesn't seem to be popular in this forum, either. Prose = ![]() |

I feel making an effort to write in any style is worthy of recognition. As a Bob Dylan fan of many years, I've heard the same complaints about his music that are being assigned to rap. Although I am not a fan of rap, it's just as valid as any other form of artisitic expression and communication. People should be encouraged to contribute to this forum. |

I personally can understand where everyone is coming from on this, but I believe that every writer should have artistic freedom. There should be no bounds on what a poet has to write. I think he should satisfy himself before he can reach out to other readers. Of course some readers will not accept the work while others will enjoy reading their pieces. Everyone has to realize that people who wander into this forum all share different interest whether it be a well written prose or a as you all say “shitty rap”. Since when has good talent not been overlooked. This happens in the music industry constantly. You just have to accept life for what it is because we know its not always fair( especially not for me being black

QUOTE(nightmare4taki @ Aug 11 2005, 9:32 PM) Just because a poem doesn’t meet your standards doesn’t mean you have to get upset about it. Just like you said talented writers are hard to find, not everyone is born with that gift. So does this mean a novice should not be able to post in this forum simply because he in your eyes is not worthy. I don’t think so, why discourage a person when you can encourage a person to do better. Maybe if you give the writer some encouragement he or she will soon flourish into a talented poet that meets you guys particular standards. Very well said, KC. However, there are amazing pieces of writing here that deserve attention and recognition. Take Justin (CrackedRearView) or Michael (mipadi). They are truly talented writers who post quality work here. However, some of their work only has 3 or 4 replies at the most. Now look at Jason's raps. Those topics have more than four pages of replies. I know that you're okay with raps in this forum, but I'm just taking an example of Jason. His particular raps are bringing negative attention to a decent subforum, and that's the last thing we want. |

By saying like "oh no rap in writing forum" thats not going to help them get more replys though. Its all up to the people . |
