I personally like rap, i like it because it has more of rhytmetic beat to its better than all that loud rock, i mean alternative rock is ok, but i think rap is better, it brings out the gangster in everyone

This topic is kind of pointless. People will always hold different opinions as to which is better. Also why is there always a comparison between rock and rap. The two are completely different genres which cater to certain people's interest.

Me personally though I prefer rap.

EDIT//
If you truly feel that your gerne of choice is better then why bother to make a topic such as this?

Yeah, I agree, this thread isn't gonna go anywhere, everyone has their own opinions ..

I think both are good in their own ways ..

rock as to playing tha guitar , & SOME singing

rap as to writting lyrics. [ not mainstream ]

both are good. depends on who raps or rocks out loud.

let's see...

rap. even tho it's not as let's say "musical" as rock because they don't include as much instrumentals such as drums/guitars, the lyrics are hardcore and very meaningful. it's got the beat behind it that drives it forward and depending on the song, it can range from "good god shoot the stereo" to "crank that shit up."

rock. some bands are just O___o;. some bands are awesome and u can't help but just love them. different bands appeal to different people. depends on the song too. some just make u feel mellow and u just feel like spacing out or getting high and chilling out. some songs just have the awesome rock hard drive behind it that makes u wanna rock out loud and just join a mosh pit.

different music for different people. s'all good.

laugh.gif haha lmao

I listen to rap more often than rock but you can find quality music and terrible music in both genres. However I really enjoy to see the both genres fused together hybrid style like "Jay Z & Linkin Park", "Gorillaz", and "RUN DMC and Aerosmith".

This however does not change my opinion on which genre I think is better. I don't judge a song by the genre, rather I judge a song on whether its good or not.

Edit//
I guess I like rap better since I listen to it more. LOL

i prefer rap but both genres have their problems i think rappers need to go back to the basics you know before all the hos and cars and houses and shit and i think all the rockers need to turn down the guitar when they're singing and start singing instead of screaming into the mic my favorite rock song is a classic is midnight rider and my favorite rap song is changes by 2pac

Rock, hands down. I prefer more classic rock.. Led Zeppelin, Queen, AC/DC, stuff like that. But I like a lot of alternative and newer stuff too. Some of the lyrics are just so amazing to so many songs, if you just read them it's honestly like poetry. Rap really doesn't appeal to me, although some of the lyrics are very meaningful a lot of it is just.. gah. Rap's just not my thing though, I'm also a big country music fan. Music is really a matter of opinion..

As a matter of preference, I like rock music better.

I don't appreciate most of the rap out there because a lot of the mainstream has something to do with drinking, getting high, or getting laid. Some of it is downright disrespectful to women. But, I don't deny that there is some rap out there with a good message. I'm not opposed to listening to Dilated Peoples now and then.

now you wouldn't like it if i was all ignorant about emo:

emo: a bunch of bitches whining and crying. if you cry less than once a day, you are not emo. also, homos whining over lost homo lovers.

see?

You're the reason I get so much crap for listening to rock and being black.
Black people invented rock, believe it or not by the way.

White people just "took it" and made it better.

anyway, i listen to both, having being raised on rap all my life and then making a switch to rock, I can say that rock is better to me, and I honestly have a better time listening to rock and going to rap than I do rap.

see, you can't really pigeonhole rock. Rock is a broad f**king genre. There's progressive rock, indie rock, hard rock, post-rock, alternative rock, etc etc.

Rap is pretty much rap...so it does have a tendency to grow old quick with me. Also, why do rappers feel the need to release so many remixes? that's not cool.

and if you're gonna bring up emo, please know what you're talking about, since emo stands for emotional hardcore and it doesn't = whining and crying.

Well, it depends...

Personally, I prefer rock music. The members are talented when it comes to singing, and playing instruments, and writing lyrics as well.

Rap music, It's pretty much rythmic poem reading, with catchy beats in the background. Though rap music IS pretty good, I don't like the idea that so many rap stars only rap about sex and drive-by shootings and stuff like that. If they all talk about stuff like that, won't that send the wrong message to the public? It will make people think that african americans are all gangsters! I just don't understand that about Rap.

Rock music does have it's flaws too. Sometimes, just screaming is considered music in rock. What does that have to do with vocal talent? Nothing! Some vocalists can just scream their way onto top charts, which is just annoying. Other times, artist's songs on albums can all sound absolutely the same, every song. Alot of artists just don't experiment with other types of rock genre! If they reach out to more genres, they can reach out to more people! But that's mainly Mainstream rock. Other rock, I don't care about, except emo.

Yeah. That's my opinion. Both have their flaws, but both can be good.

i`d choose rap because they always come up with beats for everyone to dance too, but then again, rock has some meaningful and deep lyrics that you just can`t get out of your mind. both are equal in my opinion. ahhh! but i`d go with rap since i`m a big fan of it rather than rock.

Well said.

I get crap about  listening to some types of rock--and being black too. Like someone will ask what I'm listening to on my iPod..and I'll say "Natasha Bedingfield--These Words"...and I'll get something like, "WHAT??? Isn't that POP? Aren't you black?!?!?"

Good music, is good music.

whoaa, this girls is mad crazy WITH rap.

eh, anywayz, whatever.. i like both to a point. like.. i dont like hardcore metal rock, and i dont like rap that i can barely understand the words..
