not sure how to describe this, but is there any way that when someone p/ms you and your not online, it automatically sends them a return message that you can customize thats like "im not online, ill be sure to p/m you back when i get back on" or something along those lines. or if someone hasnt made any activity for an hour. that way people dont wait around or something if it says your online or if they dont know if you're offline.

or make it an option that people can check a box and itll do it, cuz im sure not everyone would want it.

something like aim, but for p/ms on cB. if someone p/ms you and youre not signed into cB or you havent done anything for over an hour, but then someone p/ms you...i just thought itd be nice if it could automatically send a reply, like an away message on aim. something that says im not available or not online and ill respond when i get back so people know that youre not on and dont sit around waiting for a p/m back.

i thought pm's were supposed to be more like email, not IM, though i see why you might want this.

anyways, i'm pretty sure this isn't possible.

Well you can always click on their username and see where it says "Status:" It says whether they are online or not.

I don't think we don't need this whole upgrade thing. Just go check yourself.

^ I heartily agree, and I also don't think it's possible to do that, anyway.

im sure theres a way. i bet a lot of people didnt know half the stuff around here was possible.

and plus its feedback on what people would like to see done. not what will be done. if there was a limit itd say. so, this is what i think should be done. dont care if it can or cant be, this is how id like to improve cB. now go make your high top quality feedback topics.

I said it's probably not possible because this is an invision forum and I've run a few invision free forums. I do know basically what's going on. And it's just as easy to check the member's status and see if they're offline or online.

AND, if you sent the person a PM saying, for example, "get on AIM so I can talk to you about something", and then realized later that the person had just gotten offline, as long as you had that message tracked, you can delete it before they get it.

I realize it was a valid suggestion, but seriously, they're open to discussion.

PMs are like emails. Whenever you get back online you'll get to reply. And if you're sending it, then you're just going to have to be patient. Or you could check if they're online by look at the board statistics where it shows all the member.

Dude, no reason to catch an attitude. Really, we know most of the things this board is able to do. I'm sure people didn't know some things were possible, but a lot of us have been here for a long time and have explored options.

Yes, it's feedback, but if the suggestion can't be implemented, then there's really no point in arguing for it, is there?

I understand what you're talking about. Well you usually can tell already when someone is online or not..If you click on someones profile and click under status, it will tell you if they are online, offline, or what forum they are in...And sometimes it takes a while to show they are offline, but usually it winds up saying" reading board index' or somethan. So when you send someone a PM and their not online, don't sweat, i'm sure they'll send it right back to yah when they get back on. So the automatic reply might be unecessary. And some people, whether they are online or not, do not reply right away if they are in the middle of somethan...lol so i guess just be patient until they PM you back :)

I get what you you mean. But I think the sender of the PM should know that when he sends the PM whether the recipient is online or not.

So, this isn't really necessary.

Thanks for your feedback. However, this upgrade cannot be implemented and I feel would be rather pointless. As everyone has already mentioned, the person sending the message should already know whether or not the person they're PMing is online or not by viewing that member's profile.
