I read the graphic novel. It was really great. Illustrations and the subject matter was amazing. Facism is definitely a topic that hasnt been covered in a lot of grapic novels. Movie looks amazing! Natalie Portman is in it? Can't wait to see it! _smile.gif

Hehe .... unfortunately the script for the movie hasn't been getting very good reviews. They've said that it was unfaithful to the original graphic novel, but we shall see .....

I was skeptical at first, but it was well done and has a little bit of something for everyone. Despite a few short comings, for the most part, the movie is definately worth it.

I can understand the critique of the script, because at times it was a bit cheesy, but it workedl I think it actually added to it. I expected it to be a decent movie, but I really liked it, as did my friends. It was a bit confusing, so I guess if you can't manage to sort everything out it wouldn't be good, but it was still quite intriquing, very intense.

(They didn't even try to ID us. Damn. I was really looking foward to sneaking in. Sounded like fun.)

For me, the cheesy aspect of the film wasn't the problem with the script. The problem with the script was that it played archetypes too straight. As far as I could tell, the audience was supposed to be at a crossroads on a moral question. "Is V a liberator or is he a terrorist?"

However, this question was never given proper time to set and gel as the line between the good guys and the bad guys is painted so boldly. There was no question, in anyone's mind, that V was a good guy and that the guy who looked like Hitler (Are we still drawing this comparison for each and every dictator portrayed in literature or on film?) was very very bad. Also, the ideas in V for VENDETTA almost seem beaten to death at this point. We know oppresive governments are bad, but how do we solve it? We know how we solve it, but is it right? Well, these deeper questions may have been in play during the film if it hadn't been so clearly written to appeal to, again as so many films seem to have been formed, the minds of middle schoolers. Ohh well.

Also, the romance seemed a bit needless. What was the point?

As super hero, good guy, bad guy movies go. I enjoyed it quite a bit and would reccomend it. But, it certaintly is not without its shortcomings.

Althought I could have overananalyzed the movie as I tend to do at times, I must say that overall I did quite enjoy it. The imagery provided in thr form of V was quite fluid and to be honest, a bit creepy. I liked it. It was a good movie-going experience.

It was real slow a loooooooot of the time. But it took me a while to realize it wasn't really an action movie, or at least not the kind they made it seem in the trailers. I thought it was gonna be packed with fighting scenes and stuff, and I was dissappointed when it wasn't. The story though, I guess made up for it. Had a real good story, and that's what made it a good movie. MTV did a mini interview thing with with author of the comic novel and he said he didn't like it cuz it didn't fully interpret the book for what it was. He said the book was all about fascism and the movie wasn't. I can see why he was disappointed, but oh well. It was still a good film.

What movies these days ever get away without a touch of love story in it? Mmm I liked this, a lot, actually. I read the graphic novel a few years ago.. haven't had a chance to pick up a copy to compare with the movie, yet. When I was researching it, most of the reviews said the Wachowski brothers did, in fact, borrow heavily from the novel. I do, however, remember the fact that V's true identity was Valerie, but it only hinted at it in the movie.

Yeah. I think they moved it back due to other big movies being released around then. They figured it would stand a bigger chance in March. *Shrug* I remember reading that somewhere, but I don't recall any "big" movies around November last year.

And then on all the politicians just bitched about how political it was.

I remember they were all worried they needed to beef up security in England. Afraid someone was going to attempt to blow it up....again.

It was either that V was a Liberator, or, a Terrorist.

Whether or not the assumption is true that most films adopt a romantic element is irrelevant to the fact that this aspect of the film may have been worthless. In fact, I would go so far as to say the romance within V for VENDETTA was beyond worthless. It had become decapitating. The romance we saw onscreen, in my analysis, was empty and shallow. Almost a mirror of the superficial way "good" and "evil" were handled in the film.

Not to mention, romance may or may not be present within a film, and in each instance if it was present, it would be present to a certain degree. Given that degree, the presentation of romance would call for a certain level of quality. Some films pull it off (i.e. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg), while others do not (i.e. V for Vendetta).

Either way, I think the love story hurt the film as a whole.

Why do they call those masks a Guy Fawkes mask? I thought Guy Fawkes was the original dude who wanted to blow up Parliment?

It hurts to say this but, Natalie Portman's acting in this movie was a 4/10.

The dramatic parts, where she cried and all that was pretty good, but when she has normal conversations with people, she sounded so fake. Her accent was horrible.

Other than that, I LOVE NATALIE PORTMAN.

Does anyone have ANY idea where I could get a mask, besides Ebay? I have no idea how to do ANYTHING on Ebay, so that wouldn't help. I tried Hot Topic and Spencers but they didn't have any. I really want one. =[

And is anyone doing anything for the fifth of November? It lands on a weekend this year, so doing anything at school is out of the question. I'll probably rent the DVD and watch it with my friends. With loads of popcorn, soda, and CANDEH! =D

Just got the movie on DVD. I love it!

And sorry to say, no I don't know where you could buy the mask.

[stupid yet somewhat on topic question]

Why do they call those masks a Guy Fawkes mask? I thought Guy Fawkes was the original dude who wanted to blow up Parliment?

Exactly. The masks are made in his likeness.
