okay. so i saw TDAT last summer and completely hated it. because i thought it was unrealistic.

but then i saw WOTW this summer and realized that, after seeing pure shit, that TDAT was actually a pretty good movie happy.gif

so then i watched TDAT again recently---and realized that "wow.. if you ignore some of the unrealistic parts (wolves, fireplace), it's actually a pretty good movie."

war of the worlds was just. shit. is there any other word that can explain it? it just kinda... dragged and.... dragged and ended on a happy-lovey-dovey note. "yay we're all alive and back!" and can anybody explain the whole "i have to do this, dad" part. WTF?

but TDAT did end on a semi-happy note too, but most of the people still died. only the SURVIVORS survived. and when it ended, it didn't recess back to how things were before. it changed things permanently.

not like in WOTW where... basically one day they're here attacking. and then they all die. the end? wtf.

so yeah.

what do you think? happy.gif

Ok So really you are asking me to make a choice between Jake Gyllenhall or Tom Cruise. *sigh* Jake's younger.

Dude. You are completely wrong about both movies.

Day After Tomorrow - Completely realistic. They had some scientist on one of the talk shows and he said that it COULD TOTALLY HAPPEN. The idiots died cause they went out INTO THE STORM WHEN HE [JG's character, Sam i think?] SAID DONT!

War of the Worlds
- Yes Robbie was a complete teenager and was an utter idiot but still. It's realistic. Aliens couldn't handle our atmosphere. THey ate our food, drank our water, and DIED FROM IT. Obviously their planet was DIFFERENT from ours. Why do our spacemen wear those suits? Cause we can't handle the atmosphere on other planets so...the aliens are the same.

Geesus. I so wanna be a lawyer.

i havent read all the posts yet ^ but i will later on. but i honestly have to say i prefer the day after tomorrow. the war of the worlds would have been WAY better if there was some more of an explanation and i better way for the aliens to go away... cause honestly with our generation today, that was a bit STRETCHED For our minds haha rolleyes.gif

...i said the unrealistic parts about it were the WOLVES (how could they have lived?) and the fireplace (at -150, there's no way a PAPER-burning fire could survive). nothing about the frozen people. at all. they deserved to die. maybe you should read more carefully next time, yes?

and yeah. they did say it could happen. but not within the time frame of what the movie set. it happened in within like a week in the movie.

in reality, they say, if it happens, it would take at least hundreds to thousands of years.

God, now I feel like this should go in the debate forum.

Aren't there tons of wolves up north? They're furry, can handle cold tempurates.

the paper burning thing? Sure if they kept the firing going. We always start our fired with paper.

The whole thing started cause of global warming. What is it that all the politicians are bitching about everytime you turn on the news? Other than Karl Rove or something else... Global warming. *gasp* How ironic..

lol! so... wolves can handle -150 degrees? hmm... i didn't know that. i thought only penguins, polar bears, and puffins could survive such extremes.

lol. at -150? you gotta be kidding me, right?

hmm.. lemme find a citation.

...because your fire isn't undergoing -150 degrees of outside temperature! durr! pinch.gif

they tell you in the movie.

maybe you should take biology or chemistry. then you'd know a paper fire can't withstand a -150 outside temp

The Day After Tomorrow sucked.

First of all, completely unrealistic script. Total world destruction in a few weeks due to global warming? Yeah, right. Global warming is bad, but not that bad.

Secondly, the script sucked. The acting sucked. 'Nough said.

The only good thing about the movie was Emmy Rossum.

I haven't seen War of the Worlds but it's got to be better than The Day After Tomorrow. The only disaster movie that was worse that The Day After Tomorrow were the Airport movies, and they were made in the 70's when everything was cheesey, so it's excusable.

the acting did suck in TDAT, I will say that. Wasn't the best of Jake's movies.

dude lol u hate movies for stupid reasons.
its like u try to find something wrong with them.

but i liked both movies
the ending was a little dry in WOTW but it still kept me interested and entertained for the whole movie. besides the BOOK ended that way. rolleyes.gif what do ya want Speilburg to do? lol

Day after tommorrow was a good movie also it had a better ending but for some reason i still like them equally. WOTW gave u butterflies in ur stomache.

War of the Worlds scared the shit outta me. The ending was dry. My dad said they should have just ended it with Tom Cruise and Dakota standing, in the middle of the redness and they just zoom the camera out to the little ants..they screwed up with the ending. There is NO WAY the mom of the kids, like their area was untouched. It's just COME ON! they were all over the world but not in Boston, uh ok. NOT. I hated the ending. Robbie should have been vaporized.

oh i was just going to FF to the parts we talked about. The wolves thing, now that I think about it doesn't make much sense. How cold does new york get and how cold is the storm? extremely cold..that's all i remember..but they do have fur..

Both of you two are extremely stupid. There I said it.

WotW was a much better movie than The Day After Tomorrow, case and point.

I don't remember much of TDAT but I do remember a part where they are running away from the COLD. They were literally running away from the COLD. They were running in a hallway and everything behind them was freezing up and they were looking back at it saying "OH MY GOD THE COLD". And to make things worse, they STOPPED the cold from reaching them by going into a room and slamming the door shut.

I don't think I have to explain anymore why TDAT was a stupid ass movie.

*sigh* Yes another reason I get to bitch.

Ok. They were running away from THE EYE OF THE STORM. There were like these giant Ice storms that were like hurricane's on land. The EYE was the COLDEST PART and THAT WAS WHY they were running. They didn't stop it by the door. YES they shut the door but it still came in and covered the walls. My god.

It being the "eye of the storm" has nothing to do with what I was talking about.

The concept of running away from COLD is outlandish. Are you saying that someone running away from a cold wind is realistic? You can outrun a cold wind? Wow yea thats realistic.

And are you saying that closing a door can stop the cold from reaching you? I KNOW the cold froze the door and everything around it. So does that make it just stop and not reach you? Is the fire going to protect you? God read my post.

I saw niether, but I was talking about it one day and we came up with a few flaws in War of the Worlds which I've now concluded to be a very very bad movie...

1) They said the aliens were planning this attack for a million years, but a million years ago, there were no humans. They wouldn't need to these superior intelligence mechanisms to fight off dinosaurs and mammoths...
2) The 'robot vehicles' have 3 legs. If they were so smart, why would they have done that? Why would they have 3 legs and not 4 like every other stable organism on earth? Or 2, even? Why 3, so someone can chop off one and leave you defenseless?
3) They said the vehicles were hidden underground for a million years. Now, do you think after so long, someone would discover them? Subways, drills, finding oil? Don't you think, once in the centuries humans existed, someone would find these machines hidden underground?
4) Why is Dakota Fanning in the movie? She serves absolutely no purpose and would rather stare and scream than run for her life.

That's just to name a few. So I voted Day After Tomorrow. cool.gif

1- That's debateable. No one knows for sure.

2- they have a 3 fetish? Why not? 3's definately cooler than 4

3- The aliens RODE THE LIGHTNING down and their vehicles were in the ground. Remember when Tom was with that news lady at the plane crash? She showed him footage of that.

4- Purpose? Well, i'm sure you don't deserve a purpose then as being someone's daughter. Well hot damn i'm sure i dont either then. It's the robbie feller you gotta wonder about...

1. A million years was probably an exaggeration. Also, a million years was not confirmed.
2. Easy, 3 is less then 4 therefore you save more metal for other robots. Not to mention that their technology would make their robots far superior to ours. Heck, they probably have a strong enough metal to make titanium look like jello.
3. If the government can cover up assassinations, random bombing, espionage, secret groups, and etc...why not this?
4. This is a movie, not a documentary. The movie was just to tell a story not explain what happens if aliens really came.

He he. I like arguing. My parents dont like it..but hey..i got it from them..

I just dont like people bashing things I like. plus. I get WAY TOO defensive. My friends make me mad all the time.

I voted for TDAT too, by the way.

What makes you think that TDAT won't happen? The whole movie was caused by global warming..and that's like the only thing politicians are bitching about. So. Hm. It may huh.gif

Plus. The Aliens caused a lightning storm and they rode the lightning down and into the ground. That's why there was no thunder.

OH! TDAT has the 'I have to do this' LINE TOO! When Dennis Quaid's character decides to trek across the country to get sam. It's in there! I watched the movie and when I heard that i just cracked up.

Not really. Father son relationship. He had to do it. Especially with his ex-wife there.

and the movie was based on a 6-8 DAYS thing. not 2 days. the earth in unpredictable. It could. But i'm no scientist..

Uh noooo....

Damn. No use google-ing this.

Alright. I had to go get my notes that i took. Ok. These were taken from the movie so. Yea.

Global warming caused the climate shift that occured 10,000 years ago caused the ice age. That lasted 2 centured. With the polar ice camps melting into the NAC [ North atlantic current] getting mixed with fresh waterfrom the polar caps you hit desalinization, which means the Atmosphere gets messed up.
The giant ice storms that occured, the air was being pulled down from the upper troposhere [sp?] and mixing with the warm causing extreme cold.

Believe me. It won't.

Honestly if you try to tell the story of WOTW, all you can say is

"there's these aliens underground for millions of years and they attacked humans. then they died."

and i think these movies werent made to be go along with science, just to show off the computer skills nowadays.

WOTW was much better though...

For some reason three guys can get across freezing terrain on foot but the president in an amored heated car dies! What the f**k was with that story.

War of The Worlds was as it was because that's how the book went, I thought myself that the special effects were the best I had ever seen.

I haven't seen War of the Worlds, so I can't be a valid judge but anyways. I've seen DAT and I didn't think it was shit, I thought it was pretty good and I thought Jake was hot. >_> WOTW [from what you said] sounds really bad and judging by the commercials, I think you're right. I hate it when that girl goes "IS IT THEM IS IT THEM." She delivered that line terribly and it didn't sound like a question. I mean, the script writers could of put "IT'S THEM IT'S THEM." Eh, it just pissed me off.

Poll needs an option for "neither were good".

Not because "the day after tomorrow" couldn't happen---It is theoretically possible, but because the idea of a man walking like 40 miles in a blizzard like that to reach his son who happens to be burried under that much snow while many other people just froze to death does not seem possible...

Oh and because the scene with Emmy Rossum (oh i love her as an actress though) where she "warms" Sam's body with her own because he could get hypothermia makes me CRACK UP. biggrin.gif I get it though; I get it.

But I agree---Graphics were good in that movie.

I'll give you my two cents on WotW later.

Theoretically possible? Not in the amount of time portrayed in the film.

No I didn't mean in that amount of time---I meant the concept. Like the idea that the film centers around. We have to remember that they had to fit all of that within like a 2 to 3 hour time span and even if it flows kind of logically (from day to night to day)--it still could not happen that way. I agree with you, but i meant the concept (hence "quotations")

The Day After Tomarrow all the way. Although I saw it like 2 months ago, I still thought it was pretty good. I just liked how the explained everything so realisticly. It really did sound like that could happen. (though, I hope it doesn't)

Plus, I'm in Emmy Rossum fan ;) (but that isn't the reason why I like the movie better)

i thought The Day After Tomorrow was one of the worst movies I'd ever seen, full of unrealistid hippie bullcrap. Plus it was so politically biased it might as well have been a campaign commercial for John Kerry

"I'm John Kerry and I support this movie"

The vice president in the movie was a complete a-hole and they made him look just like d**k Cheney, I am seriously so glad I had a girlfriend to be with during this movie so I didn't have to watch the whole thing, it's in my top 5 worst of all time

Yeah, but the ending was still stupid... if they were so smart, and if they were watching us, they would've noticed.

Which ending are you talking about? I'm going to assume WOTW.

Why do our spacemen wear the big michelin tire man suits when they're on the moon? Why do they carry around big tanks of oxygen?

Watching from a distance couldn't have told them anything.

Our spacemen wear the "big michelin tire man suits" because we've explored space and KNOW that there is no breathable air in space.

...... You failed to prove a point. This just shows that even the human race, albeit inferior to the "alien race" in WotW, was able to make smarter decisions. Even we wouldn't go to Mars without researching it and expect to survive there.

So basically you're defending the ending to WotW ....

If aliens are capable of travelling "lightyears away" to ATTACK Earth wouldn't it be, the least bit, feasible that they could at least EXPLORE our earth beforehand .... before planning such a large scale attack? I'm sorry ..... but use YOUR head
