Alright, here's some info:

roy moore starteed a controversy by putting a 6 ton monument to the ten commandments (of the ten commandments, whatever) on the front doorstep of the alabama supreme court building when he was chief justice.

he was ordered to removed the monument by a federal judge.
roy moore ignored the order, costing alabama a 500,000 dollar fine each day it was still there.

he appealed to the supreme court, which told him to remove it. he again ignored the order, continuting to cost alabama taxpayers 500,000 dollars a day.

finnally, he was removed from office and all 9 of his fellow justices removed the monument.

now:

there is a petition to get roy moore appointed as sandra day o conner's replacement. to the court he "so valiently defied" when he refused to remove his monument.

Also, he appears to plan to run for alabama governor in 2006, wheni'll be 5 months too young to vote against him GAH.

so:

should roy moore be barred from holding any political postition ever in his life again?

*sigh* I know this is going to turn into another Religious debate. BUT he DID do 1 thing wrong. If some higher judicial power tells you to move it , then, move it!

I remember this case though. They had this big controvery over the seperation of Church and State. I DO think he should have to pay the [500,000 x #ofdays] though.

Well, maybe to him, God > Government, and by removing the commandments from the alabama court building, he may have felt that he was commiting a sin to God...Christians do believe that the world is an enemy ("be in the world, not of the world").

I don't think moore should be barred, but...the guy should be wary, politics isn't pleasant.

But you see he crossed the line between Church and State. That's all this incident is about really. What is the line between church and state. Yes, the world IS an enemy..and frankly we shouldn't care what the world thinks. All that matter's is our faith and what we know.

see, he's first a christian, than an american.

if he hold political office, he will work for christians, not americans.

and it is americans he should work for, yet he won't
therefore, he should be barred from public office.

He should work for the greater GOOD of us Americans.

You just gotta wonder where exactly the line between Church and State falls.

stubborn.gif what reputation? (you too mindy)

and about the line between church and state: the state should not regulate a church (unless it's breaking the law) and the church should not regulate the state (not through the institute of the church nor through it's members)

If a "Church" was breaking a law..then it would probably be under the lines of a CULT.

But, oh God help me, Im actually agreeing with you about the line thing. From what I can tell it does seem pretty fair.

Your repuation: You like to make debates about religion. I like to argue.

fae likes to make debates about religion too! err... well, she likes religion debates more!

anyways, i heard about some church in which the leaders were like... abusive to the little kids... yea.

so a church can very easily turn into a cult.

I think he had like 5 children with each woman? Oh, i can't remember.
