okay... so im a bit concerned for my baby sister...scratch that- im worried for her.

im scared that my sister has brain damage or something becuz she kept falling off my parent's bed. my baby sister hates sleeping in her crib, so she has to sleep in the middle between my parents, but during the night, she would fall off and hit her head and this happened more than twice...

will she be mentally challenged or something when she gets older? _unsure.gif

Hitting your head typically doesn't end in mental retardation. How old is your "baby sister"?

^ Well she's probably a baby since she has a crib.

But just to make sure, how old is she?

I think she'll be fine though. How can she fall off if she sleeps in the middle?

yeah i agree it can't be that bad. children hurt themselves all the time, she got back up all those times right? did she get any concussions or lose consciousness or anything along those lines?

You'd know if she got retarded. She has to seriously be injured to the point where it'd cause brain damage for her to be mentally impaired. You should put safety rails on the bed or something. If she falls hard enough and has a concussion, then that may result in future mental issues..

shes turning two this november...i dont know how she falls off but in the middle of the night i would hear my parents agruing becuz she fell off and i would hear her crying...but i dont know. i just assume that since her brain development can be fragile during this phase, hitting her head hard might affect her...

Infants' heads are fragile because their skulls haven't fully developed yet to protect their brains. The best thing to do would be to prevent these falls (albeit I don't know how you'd go about doing that), but if it continues, perhaps there may be some challenges for her in the future. ermm.gif

i read somewhere ( yes i read things from many places and dont remember where ) that babies shouldnt sleep in the middle since parents will like squished them unnoticed and might kill them so.. thats like WORSE right? soo.. anyways my suggestion is if u;re worried tell ur parents to bring her to a doctor.. but when i was little i fell off a couch lotsa times.. and im okay..i think =) lolz. well anyways either get a lower bed or try to make her sleep back in the crib after a doctor checks up on her.

she probably won't be, but you never know ermm.gif why dont your parents just sleep on both sides of her?
edit: o... hmm from above, maybe she shouldnt then... maybe your parents can hold her until she falls asleep then put her in the crib, so she gets used to it

Omg. It's funny to have come across this topic.

As a child I can not tell you how many times I had fallen off the bed or everything else. When I was a baby, my mom accidently dropped me onto the cement and I rolled underneath the car lol.

On several other occasions I fell off the bed when I was 2-3 yrs old and landed on the wood floor. On one of these occasions I had hit a spot on my head that actually triggers you to throw-up...non-stop. My mother didn't know what was happening until she took me to the emergency hospital and they explained it. So just to let all of you know there is a spot that you can injure that can cause you to throw-up repeatedly lol. Plus your skull isn't all fused yet when your young.

I've accidently drank an entire bottle of medicine and the hospital had to induce vomiting by the means of charcol (no not BBQ charcol) being pumped into my stomach.

I have no brain damage at all. Trust me when I say that I've hit my head so many different times since I was a baby and I've never suffered brain damage. They even took a cat-scan to make sure when I was little =) I don't think you have any reason to worry. If she insists on sleeping in the bed, then why not line the floor with pillows just in case she falls?

My Mom couldn't afford a bed let alone a crib when I was a baby so I actually slept in a hammock half the time and the other half, I spend lying on the floor because I'd fall off. I've fallen many times and I'm just dandy. Actually, my Mom tells me I never even cried when I fall and continue to sleep soundly. You may use pillows as a precaution though. Lay some pillows or even a soft quilt on the floor where she usually falls on.

^I agree with both. l0l.

She should be fine. She may just be a baby. But I don't think she'll become mentally challenged. Maybe just. Hard headed.

Yeah I know lol. Another time when I was a bit older I was sitting in a grocery cart while my mom was loading the bags into the back of the car and the grocery cart started to roll out in front of another car. I yelled for her twice and she thought I was just trying to get her to look at something lol...not cool. She finally realized once she looked and I was in a street lmao. Tough life eh?

I wouldn't worry to much. Babies fall all the time and don't suffer any sort of brain damage. As long as she doesn't get knocked unconcious or cry for a very long period of time (hours) then don't stress to much over it. She'll be fine =)

Why don't you get her a toddler bed? It's low to the floor and it has rails on it.

seriously get her in the crib, my cousin and his wife, they had the baby in bed and one of them rolled on it and it like died over the night from not being able to breath, urr that was so horrible, but i'm telling you just so your aware..it may sound freaky but it did happen and the baby was soo little, I never even got to meet him.

and the falling off the bed thing? I think it depends on how old the baby is.if its older it may not have gotten hurt as it would have if it was really young. just take it to the doctor to make sure

you should get the thing to put on the side of the bed to prevent her from rolling off.

it worked on my cousin. _smile.gif

I agree with her. I've been told that I've fallen off my parents' queen sized bed so many times. They'd be watching TV and then they'd here a "THUMP"... rolleyes.gif

Anyways. the best solution is to just put her in the crib whether she likes it or not to avoid accidents of any kind to her head or her parents rolling onto her. If I was a parent I'd rather have her cry being in a crib rather than cry hitting her head. Another solution is like elmogurly said, put things on the sides such as chairs to block her... a giant crib in other words. blink.gif

I agree with the others, put her back in the crib and get a doctor to see if she's okay. But, really, I think she's fine, unless it was a hard blow.

I think you're sister will be ok..After all she did cry when she fell off right?

And as a little kid..(when I was in a crib) i used to climb over the rails(sp?) and i fell on my head..but im ok..(i think..)

so ya..she should be ok..but she should be in a crib..even if she doesnt like it..its the best thing for her..
