That's not OCD.
That's called a habit.

OCD is when you keep on wiping your mouth until the skin around it is raw.

As for me, I have none. Just a lot of habits.

actaully wouldnt that be schizophrenia?

but anyways it can also be OCD..when ur obsessed with wiping ur mouth..

What Is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?

Worries, doubts, superstitious beliefs all are common in everyday life. However, when they become so excessive such as hours of hand washing or make no sense at all such as driving around and around the block to check that an accident didn't occur then a diagnosis of OCD is made. In OCD, it is as though the brain gets stuck on a particular thought or urge and just can't let go. People with OCD often say the symptoms feel like a case of mental hiccups that won't go away. OCD is a medical brain disorder that causes problems in information processing. It is not your fault or the result of a "weak" or unstable personality.

Schizophrenia(sp?) is having impaired perceptions. For example, a schizophrenic might see a cat as a demon one day, and a normal cat the other.

Damn, how the hell do I know all these things?

I have a really slight case of OCDs...not the kind where you wipe your mouth raw. From what mznina put as a definition of OCDs, I know do possess a bit of it. Not enough that I'm crazy or I need to see the doctors..lol but it annoys me!

Example: When I tap one foot...my mind keeps on telling me it's uneven, it bugs me if I don't tap my other foot.

Or that's not a sign of OCD...oh well, I don't really mind yawn.gif

I have OCD in the case that I always make sure the doors are locked when leaving the car, if the garage door is closed after leaving the house, or if I had properly locked the door to the entrance of the house. Basically, I worry about whether everything is secure or not, and if I'm not sure, I tend to worry excessively.

:Edit:

Okay, that might not necessarily be a sign of OCD, but I know I tend to wash my hands a lot even when it may not be that dirty and I wanna make sure it's clean. That, on the other hand, might be a sign.

i might have that. like if i'm doing something i shouldn't, i keep bitching about if my mom is behind me. i get so scared that someone i know is behind me and my parents will find out. like i keep looking back even if im in like some place they'd never go

I don't have one but I read a book called Kissing Doorknobs where I learned more about it. Everytime the girl in the book opened the door, she had to place her fingers the same exact way over the doorknob. She had to place it a certain way and if she didn't , she wouldn't open the door until she did. She tried once 55 times...now that's OCD.

Hmm...would you call it obsessive-compulsive if everything has to be in order? If nothing cannot be perfect? Hah I remember that when my good friend Krissy was signing my yearbook, she wrote something in it with ink I didn't want her to use because it was black and she signed her message in pink. It really upset me. I kept staring at it, as if it was going to change if I glared at it long enough. Haha. Or, with my homework...everything has to be perfect, from the font size to spacing to the actual paper...hmm...or on the computer, everything has to be aligned. Is that obsessive-compulsive? blink.gif

I shave my armpits on average 3 times a day - when I first wake up, after I get home from school, and before I go to bed. About 20 minutes after I shave, I feel a really strong urge to shave them again. My armpits are getting really dried out & painful...do I have OCD??

ah this topic is really bothering me b.c soo many people don't get it. it's so frustrating when people think that your average things that bother you at times automatically mean that you have a mental disorder.
believe me. you KNOW when you have. i had to go to my mom at age 13 telling i think i have a problem. i take 6 pills in total a day. and it sucks. i am thinking of making a xanga just recording my ocd updates, tips, ideas, thoughts, etc. for those who also need advice concerning this confusing disorder.
i am in the process of relapsing and im going to my therapist soon to get a stronger dosage of meds.
guys, it sucks. it kept me up at night for hours on end. it was embarrassing when other people would notice me fixing things. when people ask me what kinds of things i would do, they would look at me like, "are you kidding me?" and no. im not. it may seem odd and/or funny. but its hell. im sorry, i just needed to get that out.
if you need to contact me regarding this, please do so.

Well, let's see.

I can never sleep with my neck exposed, or my neck stretched out so that my nerve/artery thing sticks out...Because I'm afraid someone will cut my neck and blood will spew all over.

Yes, I'm weird.

whenever i use a spoon, i have to put it on the right side of the plate/bowl/whatever first, wait 3 seconds, then touch it with my index finger first, then my thumb. Then i pig out.

if i don't i'll throw tantrums..

ok.. is throwing tantrums when things don't go your way a disorder?

...._unsure.gif is that's what it's about?

He..heh...Would you get mad if I laughed at that?

I don't think I have OCD, I think I have obsessive habits, like the worst one is when I'm using the volume on the TV, I have to have it on a number divisible by 5 (10, 15, 25) and It drives me crazy.

But my sis is more OCD. She keeps re-arranging the furniture in her house AND MINE like every week, and she has to wipe down everything. She's a neat freak.

What it is: NOT AN INFATUATION WITH SOMEONE. But rather:
QUOTE(http://www.ocfoundation.org/ocf1010a.htm)
In OCD, it is as though the brain gets stuck on a particular thought or urge and just can't let go.
Yeah, so I have mild case of it. I swear, it's so stupid. The one thing that irks me the most is my post count; it has to be a multiple of five when I log off. If it's not, I force myself to post until it is a multiple of five before leaving. laugh.gif

What are you obsessive-compulsive about?

i used to have this really bad, lol. i pulled all my eyelashes out once then moved to my eyebrows and made a bald spot on my head lmao. i was in 4-5 grade. my steps have to be an even number in between cracks when i walk, and i count in 1,2's. some times when i open doors i have to do it 2 or 4 times o_o but im getting better. i repeat alot of things in my head and some times i start to say it again without having much control over it. alot of things have to end on an even number ~_~

Wow I am ocd about a lot of things. Like, I have to say it outloud if the clock if it is on my birthday. When I organise my music it all has to be Artis space - space title. If its not perfectly even it drives me nutz. I walk a path around my house in a path when I talk on the phone, and I con't stop if I'm speaking. it weird. OH! And if someone around me quotes a movie even one word wrong I have to correct them. I also will not leave the house without matching to the t. You will never see me in pink flip flops and a red shirt. I mean, it goes down to ponytail holders. And I hate it when feet touch me. I pull hair out of my eyebrows too. And I have a problem with never leaving my toenails alone. I constantly rip them off. I take tweezers and nail clippers to them all the time. I even had to have surgery cuz of my ingrown toenail. But I still eff with em. Aah I'm so weird.

and about my music, i have to have it that way too, the artist space dash space title, it drives me nuts if it isn't. hm what else...i'm always cutting my toe/fingernails unless i get my nails done...its horrible. there's more, but i can't think of them right now. ooh, on msn, i always have to have my 'special' group of people open (the group that i always talk to) otherwise, it drives me nuts...and the main window has to be on a certain spot on the screen and a certain size, same with my chat windows.
and there's more...but yeah. i'll stop there. laugh.gif

okay so feel this widdle bitty bit better about my terrible habits. Also (i just thought of another) I have all my dcs and dvds and computer games in these cd binders. Unlike normal people who have them in alphabetical order, I have them in categories. Like all will smith movies together. All marilyn monroe movies, all anime, all disney movies, all comedies etc. And my computer games are categorized by type like sim games, board games, etc. Its really bad, cuz only I can find anything in there. Everyone else gets confused. I do it because I'm usually in the mood for something specific, and its hard to find it when its alphabetical!! *sigh* they should lock me up.

ahh i know how you feel. i repeat things over and over in my head and everything i do i usually end up redoing. i tend to seem like i have deja vu a lot.

My PreMed Advisor has a Severe Case of OCD, He has to Align the whiteout bottles in complete lines of 12 and it has to be from the ones that works to the bottle that doesnt work. When we store our labcoats we have to put em from smallest to biggest. Hes always cleaning his hands and his shoes.. Its crazy.. The only that I do thats sort of OCD-ish is when I eat any type of round candy IE M&M's Skittles etc I have to eat em by even numbers I dont know why but I just have to eat 'em like that

I am ocd about categorizing things. Everything has to be in order. Movies, cd, video games and I get upset when someone goes behind me and misplaces my "hard work". This sounds sooo dorky but I use to put my clothes lightest to darkest when I hung them up in my closet when I was little. ohhhh *blushes* I cant believe I am telling people this.....

I have a really bad kind of OCD. I'm on alot of medication for it...

...It's not a particular thing I'm obsessed about...It's more I tell myself I can't do something over and over (That's the obessive part) and then all of a sudden- i can no longer physically do it (That's the compulsive part). I swear you can ask my psychiatrist. That's what the real thing is like for a lot of people. Anywho it is really bad because it affects my schoolwork and also has a side effect of depression.

For instance, in the 7th grade I convinced myself I couldn't read.
In the 10th grade I convinced myself I couldn't do vibrato on violin (even though I've played for 9 years).
and so on...

It's okay now I guess. I'm okay because I'm on stuff...it just kind of sucks because sometimes your OCD medication stops working. And then you start convincing yourself you can't do things that you LOVE to do. And it just...It's so hard to talk about that kind of thing because someone who doesn't have it can't really understand what it's like to convince yourself you can no longer do what you love.

But it helps me when I make films!! Because I Have to get the shot just right blink.gif The rest just really is awful. I can't really explain those kinds of terrible experiences to people. It's strange and so awful that you just want it to stop so badly- you don't want to torture yourself anymore. But that's how it feels. People ask me "Why do you do that? Why?" and I can't really tell them why...I just DO!

I'm glad I got help because it was just really bad.

i'm obsessive compulsive about the music tags on my computer too. i also have to have my cd collection in alphabetical order on my desk. last summer i had a lot more stuff... i wouldn't sleep if everything in my little world wasn't "right." so when my parents went to bed i would go downstairs/outside and make sure the doors were locked, the tv was on a certain channel and volume before it was turned off, our remotes were on the right settings, the blinds were down, the windows were closed, the dresser doors were closed, the water faucets were all completely off, the toilet seats were down, the pillows on the couch were in the right place, the towels in the bathroom were hung up correctly, the outside bathroom door was closed, the leaf traps were clean and covered by the plastic thing, the pool cover was on correctly, our fence gates were closed, our equipment box was closed, our storage doors were closed, the pool settings were right, there weren't any clothes left drying outside, our door mats didn't have any leaves on them, i knew the pool temperature, i remembered the punch line in that days calvin and hobbes and get fuzzy, my ipod had to be on hold, i had to know the high weather for tomarrow, etc etc etc. it usually took me about 90 minutes to do all of this.

Yeah, I have a somewhat moderate case of it.

I'm a 'checker.' I always check things about ten times before I walk out of a room.

Things have to be perfect in my signature and on my playlist. Perfectly done capitalization and such.

I organize my school binder at LEAST two times a day. If it's not organized in a certain way, then I go crazy.

When I put my shoes on, I have to get them equally tight. I tie both of them and walk around for a minute. If they're not equally tight, then I go back and redo both of them until they're both as equally tight as I can get them.

My keyboad has to be perfectly aligned when I type, or else I just stare at it and I physically can't bring myself to type on it if it's not perfectly aligned.

I alphabetize my CDs every single day. I always alphabetize them in the exact same way, but I just go back and rearrange them and rearrange them for hours, but then it occurs to me that I put them back in the exact same way.

Yeah... things like that. There are a few more.

I'm big on the checking things though... lots of paranoia behind that one. =P

I've been diagnosed as OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder) for a little under a year now, although I've been living with the disorder for about 6 years. mellow.gif Mine centers on extreme anxiety and not being able to start major projects due to the inability to start over (ie - I won't start a paper because I *have* to do it right the first time, but at the same time I know it's not going to happen that way. So I just avoid it.) Then the stress builds up and I take it out on myself, which eventually led to my CSP disorder... @_@
I have lots of other little twitches associated with it, like hoarding, eating my food a certain way every time (also only eating one thing at a time, rather than mixing my food together), lining things up exactly, taking a shower in the morning before I do *anything*....

at one point, i thought i had OCD becuz whenever i would pack my luggage to go somewhere, i would dump all its contents everytime i had to put something else in it. for ex: i went out to the beach and when i came back to my hotel room, i dumped everything from my suitcase just so i could put in my bathing suit and from there i put everything else back in. my friends notice and asked me if i had OCD or something..

and this reminds me sooo much of that guy in the movie, "The AVIATOR"
his name was HOWARD HUGHES and he had this major OCD that just drove me crazy while i was watching it.

My mom kind has the "Howard Hughes" thing. She vaccuums at like 4 AM. It's crazy.

I kind of have it. I've got to have everything organized and in it's own little spot.
Also, typing correctly; using correct capitals, spacing, and all that other jazz.

a have a mild case. but the outcomes are kind of hectic.

my symptom is violent thoughts and fear of hurting someone, and precise punctuality on desired objects or things/persons. if i want something ad set it at a certain time to get it and i dont get it right at that certain time i will feel pressure in my chest and then like im being suffocated and i will start having either a panic or hyperventilating attack and usually end up in tears. its happening more and more lately because of my manic depressive disorder, also known as bi-polar disorder, a chemical imbalance in your brain

I have to touch everything with both hands the same amount of times, or when I see one arm, or leg, I HAVE to see the other. I'm not sure if this is OCD, but a few of my friends tell me it is.

I also have to check and make sure my homework is in my binder like 8 times before I go to bed, I just feel so uncertain.

i have a lot of habits. i bite my lip a lot when im anxiuos or nervous. and i dont' realize im doing it until it starts bleeding sometimes.  blink.gif  i always bite the skin off thats coming off already or chapped. i always have to use chapstick so i don't peel off the skin anymore. arg. i hate that stupid habit.

same! I hate it...I alawys bite my lip one day without realizing it and the next day it feels obbsolutely awful and bugs the heck out fo me...and hten the next day it feels O.K. but the skin is kinda chapped so guess what I do? bite it pinch.gif arrrggghhhh and then the cycle starts over and over again.

lately I've been getting over it tho, although some days I do slip into my old habbit I just have ot keep on reminding myself not to bite cause if I don't think about it than I always bite. it's soo annoying mad.gif

Nah, i'm not OCD at all. Except with one thing. Me and my friend both share this OCD thing...M&M's.

We both color catorgorize our M&M's by spillling them on the table, and putting them into their own color group. (There are always tons of more brown's then there are of any color, lol) And then we eat the browns first, and then yellow, green, blue, and so on until we eat the reds last. lol i dunno, that is my ONLY ocd thing, i promise lol. It's just fun to eat M&M's that way haha

oh, i was talking about the hyperventilating and shaking and such. i just remember feeling extremely nervous, to the point where it was almost an adrenaline rush also. the source was different though; sorry for the confusion.
