does debate really solve anything? it's like two trees fighting; no matter how much they sway, they can't move each other.

It's okay. There's a lot of pointless things in the world .... example one: string in your pocket. _smile.gif

Actually I do think they solve some things. Sometimes when learning the facts people change their mind. In the play/movie/whatever it is now "12 Angry Men", debating cause i think almost all of the juror's except two to change their minds.

Actually, I have changed my mind because of points brought up by my opposer. How are you supposed to debate debate?

without debates, you wouldn't get to see "the silence of the bush". (inside joke w/ myself)

anyway, it would be hard to make important decisions if there were 2 different ideas.

Debating is good.
It can let you be more open-minded and think about things that you've never thought about before.
Besides, debating is a lot more peaceful and intellegent than actual fighting.

Debating gives you a chance to see both sides of an argument, and if you're not bull-headed, it allows you to develop a less one-sided opinion so you don't seem ignorant in future debates.

Plus when people call you out on an outrageous claim, it forces you to do your research in order to avoid such embarrassment in the future.

I usually end up coming to some sort of compromise in my debates, mainly because I'm a little more loose. I don't think there's really any "right" opinion, just some are flawed slightly. wink.gif

So.. it is possible to debate debate.. I think.

Example two: my post in this thread.

And here's why it's pointless. My post doesn't actually debate debate. It debates whether debating debate is possible and whether debating is worthwhile, but doesn't debate debate itself. Or does it? :P (read that one out loud)

.:edit:. I must have confused my browser, because making this last post made every Firefox window close without warning. I had to pull out the last paragraph or so from memory. D:
