For Rock, There's Silver Ash... I'm confused on whether or not they're chinese or korean though. I'm 90% sure they're chinese.

Chinese Rock band called Beyond are immense, although the main artist has been dead for ten or more years, their music is just unmissable.

Jay Chou is very good if you are looking for chinese pop music, and so is Nicholas Tse, Joey Yung, Leo Ku and Eason Chan. If you're looking for something extremely poppy, and you're into the commercial pop music Idol thing, you know being airbrushed and everything, go for the younger "artists" like Twins(personally I hate them but many pple love em) or Alex Fong. I don't listen to much Mandarin but I think Alex Wong Lee Hom is quite a good mandarin artist besides Jay.

FIR are a pretty good band, their music is very alternative, they change their style all the time, actually they don't really have a fixed style.

You mentioned Dir en Grey, I think that's Japanese, if you like them you may like other Jap Bands like Dragon Ash, Do as Infinity, The Pillows (extremely good), The Back Horn and Kung Fu Generation. Porno Grafitti is meant to be a good band as well but I haven't personally heard them. Being 1/5 chinese and 1/5 Japanese, I think these are my persnal recommendations.

lol.. im not fond of chinese rock that much (well.. the pop-rock trend thats hitting china isn't that good in my opinion. there was this one rock band who was bopping their heads and saying "Wo ai ni..")

I prefer F.I.R. for a great chinese band.

Jolin Tsai.. her songs r all right.

if you're interested (might b getting a little off topic), try listening to Mindy Ke and 顺子. They're pretty deep soul chinese (im not that interested in them but my brother keeps introducing me to them) music.

First person that popped in my mind is Jay Chou. He is just a music prodigy, great composer and singer. Must listen to him ^^ He and David Tao are great Taiwanese musicians

Then there are vetran artists in Hong Kong like.. Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Leon Lai, and Aaron Kwok.

I'm becoming a fan of Janice, who is Filipino and Korean but sings Cantonese, she has a great voice and is tolerable, I really like her song "Big Brother".

Sammi Cheng, Eason Chan, Julian Cheng, Wilfred Lau, Steven Zhao, Nic Tse, and Joey Yung are also great singers. :)

Haha, that was random...

Anyway...from the list of bands that you like, I suggest you check out the Taiwan music scene. Taiwan's music has grown more and more rock and roll (e.g., F.I.R.) over the years, and you'll find something you'll like in there.

If you're looking for really good pop singers that have been in the business for a while, I suggest Jay Chou, Alex Lee Hom Wang, David Tao, Leo Ku, Joey Yung, Eason Chan and Denise Ho.

For younger, talented pop singers, I'd go for Wilfred Lau (I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this guy) and Deep Ng (SO much potential).

Have fun listening to some good music. =)

I went on a couple of sites to check Silver Ash out...and...well...were they disbanded by the Chinese government or something??

According to this forum I visited, they're trying to come to America...they sound really cool since they were the first Chinese visual kei rock band...;_; But they're probably no more... cry.gif

personally i adore F.I.R.
but when you live in Hong Kong, there are loads of different music you come to, both hong kong and taiwan and mainland chinese singers.
jay chau is pretty good. he's taiwanese. F.I.R., S.H.E., Jolin Tsai, David Tao, and many others are too. they're all pretty good.
Joey Yung, Kelly Chen, are HK singers. i don't usually listen to HK ones though.
you should do a search somewhere.
