for all over lighter hair, soak your hair in lemon juice and spend a lot of time outside. For streaks, well, rub it on your hair, and spend a lot of time outside. The acid and the heat lightens you hair color. Or just buy some sunin. But if you want it to get noticeably lighter, do it a few times, but try to give your hair a rest every other day. you dont want to damage it.

Well putting lemon juice in your hair works but it damages your scalp, the acid in the lemons cause the scalp to become irritated and may cause 1st degree burns [since your scalp is very sensitive] so before pouring lemon juice in your hair, try to dilute it and mix it with a small drop of conditioner.

yep, lemon juice and sun=highlights.

Also, if you squeeze lemon juice in your hair while you shower, it'll give you highlights too. I know someone who did that, and it worked for her.

SUN IN works on only light colored hair ..light brown and up. ..cause i used it back when i was in elemenatary school (on my natural black hair) ..and my friends cLAIMED that it got a little lighter , but i begged to differ.

..soooo YES it does work. .unless your hair is very dark or dyed ....and LEMON [juice] works just as same as sun-in.

Staying out in the sun a lot lightens your hair. I used to swim a lot, so instead of the natural black my hair is, it turned a lighter brown.

About a month ago, I was talking to my hairdresser about ways to lighten my hair without any chemicals or a trip back to the salon, and I asked if I should use lemon juice. She said thats the worst thing to do, because the acids in lemon juice cause significant drying to your hair.

I guess if you have super hydrated hair that wouldn't suffer much from the extreme loss of moisture, try it. cool.gif

It works. It's called A Touch of Sun right? Thats what I first used. Then I stopped being lazy and bought the dye and did it myself. But it gets messy for me.

lemon juice works but it's soooo bad for your hair. it damages the hair and dries it up like crazy.

sun in totally works. my friend used it and you can totally see the difference (because her roots grew back out). it went from like... a dark brown -nearly black- color to a reddish/brownish color.

hey all
I am a 17 year old boy with dark brown hair and i would like tips on how to get my hair lighter. I woke up this morning with my hair all parted to the left and i looked like a emo so i want to make my hair lighter. How long should i spend in the sun? Is there a limit before it will damage my hair. (My dad has bad hair genes so i don't want to do anything that might cause me to go bald!) Oh and is there any shampoos or conditioners i might be able to use? Thanks for the help.

I heard that vinegar works the same way as lemon juice.

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal with bleach is. I've used it hundreds of times. You just have to use it carefully and not abuse it (don't go over 30 mins per treatment, wait a day between treatments, and don't bleach more than 3x) AND take care of your hair (use good, strong conditioners, use hair strengthening therapies and heat protection therapy).
