Colorization: The Process in which you take a BLACK/WHITE picture and you ADD color to it.

Alteration: The process where you CHANGE the color(s) IN A COLORED PICTURE.

Examples:

This thread is an example of a colorization by SHAWTY_TOYA

This thread is an example of an alteration. by lbjshaq2345. (My argument is stated there too.)

Edit--More Def's:

The Complete List of Everything Defined [Hopefully Everything]
Quoted from Nyah-Nek0:
Blend - type of photo manip. where pictures are blended together into one single picture.

Photo manipulation - taking any picture(s) and making them different from the original. Colorization, adding effects.... Stuff like that. It should look very diffrent from the original, and there should be profound difference.

Quoted from me.:

Colorization: The Process in which you take a BLACK/WHITE picture and you ADD color to it.

Alteration: The process where you CHANGE the color(s) IN A COLORED PICTURE.

Submitted by EriaNight (but feel free to correct me):

Vector/Vexel:
A vector/vexel can be made in photoshop using many tools, but the new image must be made up of shapes and usually several layers to look right. You can change the image to any size and it does not look pixelated. There are ways to *fake* a vexel, but that's not a very responsible idea especially if you enter it into one of the Createblog vector/vexel contests. (someone should add to this one because I don't really do vectors/vexels and am not very good at explaining them)

*Note* ^^^: If someone would explain the difference between each it would be nice...and I can edit this post and tell who said it.

Brushed Image: You add little flowers, hearts, grudge effects, etc., to your image or blend using photoshop or PaintShop Pro brushes which you can find on many sites.

*Note on Brushes* Alot of people tend to forget to credit the sites they used when they use brushes made by other people in their blends...That is BAD. Many sites are LinkWare. Aka if you post a blend in the Digital Art forum...credit the brushes you used unless you made them yourself!! I'm sorry, but I've seen a lot of brushes that I recognize from other sites and people have forgotten to credit!!

Animations in Images: This really depends on the person, but if you put an animation in an image *to me* it is not an alteration of the original image. Animations on top of an image are just that: putting an animation *on top* of the actual image. The photo-manip creator should still change the image underneath for the artwork to be an actual photo-manip. If it's a photo-manip contest, it probably should not matter that much though because a lot of people alter the image underneath anyway, and even if the photo-manip creator alters the image just a little bit it is STILL a photo-manip. Then if he/she adds animation-that to me IS a Photo-manip [did that make sense?-->someone asked earlier if their animation was okay for the contest, and I really think it should be!!! because it looked like you altered the image underneath as well as put an animation on it]

The rest are Not Digital art definitions, but good to know because they relate to art...and you still make them yourself:

Avatars: Little pictures under your createblog name. They should be equal to or smaller than 100 x 100 px for Createblog and less than 15 KB. You can use "gif, jpeg, jpg, swf, png" apparently...Alot of sites like to give a avatars for free and don't make you link back, but they are very very easy to make, I promise and if anyone ever needs avatar help just PM me.

Sigs : Almost like a mini-profile under your posts. It tags along on you and follows you everywhere!! Your sig should NOT stretch the forum or a Mod will edit your sig and tell you that it's too large. You can edit your sig under "My Controls" just like you can edit your avatar and basically everything...

Offensive Avatars/Sigs
: Not really my dealio because I am not a mod but here is my two cents: I just do NOT like them! And I'm not telling you which ones I find offensive, but some I have found VERY peculiar...in a very bad way (you don't have to put this in there whoever pins this...)

I know I probably sound like a B*, but Grace said I could put this up. I just dont want people to get mixed up. wacko.gif

Ok, now what's the diffrence between a blend and a photo manip. Because when I put my entry for the photo manop contest up, I had 3 people tell me that it was a blend more thand a photo manip.

Aren't they like squares and rectangles?

A square is a rectangle, a rectangle isn't always a square.

A blend is a photomanip, but a photomanip isn't always a blend?

I'm a lil confoozed blink.gif

Erm, wait so I'm a little lost. If you did do that, what would it be considered? A colorization or an alteration? blink.gif

Eh. Maybe I should do that anyways. Im not a mad though. mad.gif Kinda pointless then I suppose.

I think it is still a colourization. You are creating your work FROM a black and white photo

All that tutorial is making the background b/w while the main focus is person, or angelina jolie. Alteration.

Maybe we should make a whole thread saying the difference between everything...

We need to TOTALLY get this pinned EXCEPT that we need to have like definitions for everything like you said, but they need to be at the top...

Here are some ones that need to be defined and/or have been defined:

The Complete List of Everything Defined [Hopefully Everything]

Quoted from Nyah-Nek0:
Blend - type of photo manip. where pictures are blended together into one single picture.

Photo manipulation - taking any picture(s) and making them different from the original. Colorization, adding effects.... Stuff like that. It should look very diffrent from the original, and there should be profound difference.
