i searched for a topic and couldn't find anything, but if i missed a similar topic mods feel free to close :)

i'm thinking about trying japanese straightening. it would be so much easier for my hair during the summer when i go travelling and stuff since my hair is crazy at times. i was wondering if it is still possible to curl your hair after it's been straightened. not like a perm or something that extreme. but in july i'm a bridesmaid for my cousin's wedding and i need my hair to be curled. is it still possible to do so after it's been straightened? any advice or thoughts are much appreciated :)

If you straighten your hair professionally, you'll have to wait a few days (two weeks at the most) before styling it.

But if you curl with a hot tool, it'll wash out - so yeah, you'll be fine.

EDIT//

I tried Japanese straightening once, and it didn't work. Bleh. _dry.gif

im gonna get one when i go to china in two weeks cuz its just cheaper there. heh. my mom got one last year and i wanted one but teh salon person suggested i wait because the chemicals are bad for your hair and he didnt wanna destroy my young virgin hair. but it looks great afterwards, its all shiny and smooth and easier to manage. so if you wanna get one, be sure to take really good care of it afterwards so it doesnt dry up.

yeah the proper term is called thermal reconditioning (TR)

i got mine done (yes i'm a guy) but i like my hair straight plus my hair is kinda long... it lasts for around 6 months and takes about 4 hours or so depending on length and severity of your hair. get it done it's well worth it...

and make sure not to WASH or wear a hat or put your hair behind your ears for at least 2 days or your hair will kink... washing it straight away will just destroy all the hard work your hairdresser did...

I amde a topic like this over a year ago =p

But I'll let it go.

So yeah, I got one last December. It was great XD. I thought it was really worth the money (about $300) and the wait (5 hours). It stays straight for almost a year, and I love it. I used to have to straighten it daily, or it looked disgrossting =p. It really helped a lot. And now I only need like 5 minutes to get ready for things. _smile.gif ...But I have curly hair. So I only recommend it if you have a problem with your hair.

Oh and for curling your hair...when I first got it, I couldn't curl it. It straightened on it's own like 5 min. later. But now I can curl it, but curls go away a lot faster. Loads of hairspray is a must.

yes i think the correct term in English is JAPANESE tHERMAL reconditioning ...i'm korean, so we call it Magic straight... i've done it 4 times so far ..(the last time i got it done was in january of '04)... i am not planning on getting it done again... AT THE MOMENT ..it's good for your hair. ..but afterwards ..it starts to fry and you have to keep gettting it over and over again.. unless your hair is not naturally coarse/curlye (like me)

hey but remember after you've done it, you shouldn't wash your hair within 3 days, at least.

I've done it twice and I completely agree with eli5e. I'm not going to get it again and I'm waiting for my hair to grow so I can chop off a section of it.

im not sure. i would think so. my friend danielle got this curly perm back in 5th grade, and she didnt like it after a few months, so she daily straightened it until it grew out.

so my guess is yes >.>

yea you can curl it, just not within the couple days after. Also, it'll take a really hot iron, and lots of product to keep it in....no biggie though, it's still hair so it'll still style fine.

Is it supposed to be permanent, or do you keep having to get it done?

i got it done once.. the process is very tedious.. mine took about 5 hours to do even though i have short hair.. there were a lot of people there so my hair stylist had to keep going back and forth.. anyways, it really didn't make a difference for me because i already have natural straight hair (i only got it done because my mom knows the owner and she offered to do it for about 60 bucks).. i wouldn't get it done again because it ruined my hair afterwards.. if you have really thin hair like i do, you might want to reconsider..

it costs alot to do that....it takes some time to do it too but its way better than a perm! it lasts longer...its called japanese str8ener because ur hair will be straight like how the japanese have their hair...but what's the point of getting it if ur just gonna go curl it??...hmm..

well ._. im not sure why its called JAPANESE straightening since they have it in almost every country. but yeah~ i had my hair straightened last year when i went to china ^_^ my hair is straight already i guess but since my hairs kinda thick ._. it toke FIVE hours to get it done. o gosh x_X;; my butt hurted after that. but yeah. if your hair is really healthy, it'll stay like that for about a year or so ._. but then again you cant do anything with your hair for 2~3 days after you straighten it T_T of course that includes washing it x_X yucky~ but after they straightened it. they usually puts on this stuff so your hair wont get oily ._.;;

My friend got it Jap. straightened. Then she got it curled for the prom. The next day she washed her hair. Her hair was straight and shiny again.
