Hey --

I've been having problems with my photoshop recently, in that it keeps crashing while I run it. Sometimes I get a memory error.

How do I fix this so it won't crash so much?

Thanks.

It could be spyware/adware, or maybe you recently installed a corrupted brush file? You could try maybe deleting a recent brush you installed or if that's not the case, try a system restore? Good luck!

Delete all the files you on't need.
Run a virus + adware scan.
Delete all your brushes + patterns + gradients.

It could be a corrupted brush file. I tried making one and I had never done it before... how do I look up brush files and delete them?

Thanks.

Go to program files. (C:\Program Files)
Select 'Adobe', then select 'Photoshop'.
Delete the entire files called 'brushes'.
There's also a reset option when you install brushes... But I don't know what that will do.

Mine is C:/Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop/Presets/Brushes.
I guess it depends on what version you're using? And you don't need to delete the ENTIRE brush folder. Just the one that you tried making, cause that could be the one causing the crashes.

I am wondering if it isn't being caused by spyware after all. I've noticed in the save for web function there is a little box at the bottom that says preview for browser that is set at Internet Explorer... I use Mozilla because I am getting spyware too often with other browsers.

So often when it has crashed, it has been due to running out of memory. Is it possible for me to change the browser preview to Mozilla, so I won't have to deal with spyware from IE being activated by the save for web function?

Also, I use windows for HP and for the life of me, I don't know how to get into the program files from the C drive. I don't see an icon for me to use... do I have to go into DOS in order to do this, and if not, why am I missing this...

P.S. I have like 4 or 5 spyware programs but can't ever seem to get rid of them completely, which is why I don't like using IE... too much of a pain.

Use Adaware and other stuff to remove spyware/adware.

Oh and since I have XP Service Pack 2, a window always pops up to ask me if I want to install something. Before I had SP2, the box never popped up and things installed by themselves. Yay SP2 happy.gif

Also, Photoshop already installed in there? Maybe you did run out of memory? How much memory do you have?

And also, what kind of Windows do you have? Windows 98? Windows 2000? Windows ME (millenium edition. Dunno know about it)? Windows XP (Home, Professional, Media Edition, etc.)?

Windows 98, and I have been adding quite a few programs the past month. I just got a digital camera and the crashing really seemed to start when I started playing around with the photos from my Kodak in photoshop.

So how do I check memory and tell if that is the issue.

Also, in the save for web function in Photoshop, is it possible to change the browser preview from IE?

As far as Spyware goes, dude, I've got like 5 programs!

Adaware, Spyware Blaster, Spysubtract, X Clean, and SpyBot. I know I am not getting them all... I get funky virus type e-mails in my email addys... so I know it's cuz of spyware installed in my computer.

I went onto the Adaware site and posted a diagnostic, but no one ever replied to my thread to let me know what I needed to clean to get rid of them all.

Damn bugs...

What I would do before you go about the whole Spyware deal, because I can tell you know that it is not spyware. You will want to boot up into safe mode, to do so when the PC is restarting hit F8, then choose SAFE MODE from the menu. Login and do as you would, use it for a while and if it crashes in safe mode, do a clean reinstall of the product. If you bout the PC, call the manufacture of the PC such as Dell or Compaq. They are liable to send you a new copy, if not yell at them and you will get it anyway. If it still keep going you might need to uninstall then delete the leftover files in your program files folder, But with the error you are getting it seams that you have to much stuff loading that your PC can handle, I recommend a msconfig doing. Go to START > RUN > Type in MSCONFIG, the go to the START UP TAB, leave all program you want to load on start up checked, if you dont want it to, then uncheck it.
