Well, I have moderate acne on my face, back and chest, and I went to the dermatologist for it. She gave me a prescription, which worked for awhile, but then all of a sudden the zits attacked my face again. I asked my mom to take me back, but she told me "We'll go soon... it's just that we have bills to pay..."
My parents aren't willing to go through trillions of different products to see which ones work (I think that they don't think acne's that big of a deal, and with my stubborn skin, I'll probably be going through that many products), and I have no way of getting to a store to buy stuff (no allowance, no job, and I'm too young to drive). I want to treat my acne NOW; I don't want to wait till the next dermatologist appointment (which will probably be in the next year if I'm lucky).

So, I guess what I'm saying is, how can I convince my parents that I want to try to treat this NOW (without nagging them to death/being annoying)?

I think I made sense. I hope I did. :P

Thanks!

eh? fluroide=for anticavities.
If you want to use toothpaste, you have to use the white kind, not the gel.

This'll sound really weird, but I was talking about a lady at Wal Mart about it, and she advised me to go to Dollar General and get this cocoa butter bar soap because it worked for her.. and it worked for me too! You should try it. It smells good too.. haha

Heh...I love CosmoGirl and someone asked if toothpaste worked on zits, acne etc. IT DOES NOT WORK. There is no ingredient in there that helps to treat or prevent acne but it does leave you with a minty tingling feeling. Lol, I tried it when my cousin swore that it worked but a few years later, I read it in an article.

But I have zits out of no where every now and then and I'm a cheap person. And broke for that matter. Apparently acne kinda runs in the family so my younger sister has a much worse case of acne than me so my parents ordered Proactive for her (which I tried and didn't work for me..). I've always used Clearasil and oh my goodness I LOVE THAT STUFF. It's only at most $10. I use it every night to keep those nasty zits at pay and VOILA! Clearer skin biggrin.gif

I never had a serious problem but once I had three pimples and I just washed my face at night with really cold water, dried it completely, didn't put any lotion or anything on it and then the next morning they were goneee!

Toothpaste is there for one reason, to suck up oil and dry out the thing.

Well, I have this night thing, and it makes it so you don't wake up with a new zit or something. ANyways, it SMELLS like alchohol, which I think is like:

Oil is to water
what
Alchohol is to oil.

It sucks to oil out of my face and kills bacteria in your pores.

So alchohol might work.

Toothpaste does work! The baking soda in it..I would use it more as a spot treatment than a whole face thing though.

If you dont want to use your toothpaste then use plain old baking soda, a few drops of water, make a paste and dot treat.

proactiv works for some people but not all just wash your face any time you can perferably everytime your not outside try washing your face because the polluted air gets into your pores and causes it to be clogged up with nitrous gases and oil which causes zits to appear.. try lotions with benzoyl peroxide

I don't recommend the toothpaste idea especially if you have sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin and moderate acne so you can bet I've gone through many different acne products.

Wash your face morning and night, even during the day if you feel your skin can handle it. DO NOT USE BAR SOAP! Use face wash! Lotion tends to clog pores so don't use it unless you really need it. People who don't have a problem with acne can use lotion and rarely get breakouts from it.

Tell your parents that your appearance is important to you and you feel that acne lowers your self esteem. Just be truthful and stick right to the point.

People with moderate acne, I feel, have a harder time. Your skin becomes very dry and flaky so you try to cut back a little on the acne treatment but your acne becomes even worse.

Try ordering acne treatments online if you can't go to the store and if your parents don't want to take you to the dermatologist. If all else fails, get the acne treatment from your friends in means of borrowing some from them or asking them if they can get some for you and you can pay them back later on. I had a prescription acne medication before and it literally burned my skin. Every time I put it on my back or chest, it would turn my skin beet red. I've found that most store bought medications aren't to fantastic so lately I've been using murad or dermanew. Those are more expensive but they work wonders. I've tried proactiv but I didn't have a good experience with it, it actually made me break out worse lol. Try www.sephora.com and look up their acne treatments.

Also remember that acne is hereditary, can be caused from stress, and you may notice more outbreaks during certain times of the month (has to do with your period and hormonal changes in your body every month.)

Try loreals pure zone. Its like a cheap version of proactiv, but I know people who have used it (myself included) and it has worked wonders for them. Also, if you have bacne (back acne...haha) Try neutrogenas acne wash. These are thing you can pick up from wal*mart for a fraction of the price. And if they dont work, at least make it clear to your parents that you are trying to save them money, and maybe they will cut you a little slack. Oh, and this may sound crazy, but make sure you wash your hair and skin every day. Bacne is sometimes also caused by shampoo and conditioner being left on your back, so make sure you always wash your back after you do your hair. try putting it up in a towel. It helps cuz those products clog pores.
