I think respect shouldn't just stop at elders. I think you should respect everyone even if they don't give the same to you. It's never going to work out so well if both are thining negatively about each other. Give it some room to change. And plus, I don't care how much you hate the person, still ... you should respect them. I hate dislike a lot of people but I manage to still respect them anyway.

I'm a realist and I look at life from a realistic perspective. Wisdom does not come from age, wisdom comes from experience. If someone 10 years your senior has been around the block more than you have, it might be best to listen to what they have to say.

Moving, age does not warrant respect. Just because you're 21 and someone else is 40, that doesn't mean you should respect them as a person. They could be shadier than slim and have a track record of using and decieving people. Or, they could be sop ignorant as to the ways of the world that their stupidity is just plain offensive.

Yes, yes I know. The common ground would be to be a human being. Always take heed to an elder. If they're wrong, politely shrug it off. If they deliberately disrespect you, then politely set the record straight. Be polite in whatever you do and it ceases to be blatant disrespect.
