Should perfect attendence awards be discontinued?
No? - Kids that are stupid get awards too (like someone I know) - Awards kids that try hard to be at school and really make an effort Yes? - Encourages kids to go to school even if they're sick - Contagious illnesses - Is unfair if you are seriously sick, can't go to school and your mom lectures you about not getting enough awards (like my mom) Okay, these aren't excellent reasons, but what do you think? I know it's not a big issue (maybe not an issue at all), but I'd appreciate your opinions. If you're curious, I don't think there should be perfect attendence awards because I always strive to get an award or two, but I have .. how do I put this.. Erm illnesses (asthma, exzema, more), sometimes I just can't make it to school. To see someone that fails all the time, but still comes to school every day and get that award gets on my nerves because I work REALLY REALLY hard (and my teachers say so too) in the time that I am at school. ![]() |

I personally don't think there should be awards for "perfect attendance". If kids are thinking to much about always getting to school on time, they may forget why they are actually going to school. Also, I'm like you, I work hard, get good grades. But, when I get sick I miss school, and also I have to go on like monthly trips to Hong Kong to get a visa so I can enter China. No there should not be perfect attendence awards.

no- schools get more funding the more kids are there, and the fewer that are absent.
the reward should acutally count for something tho; like... exam exeptions (our school HAD them... (exempt 2 exams each semester, can't exempt sams subject twice in a year. you have to have all A and Bs too) |

this one person at our school got perfect attendance from k-12.
anyway...i think awards should be something that a person has to work towards. not to people who have good immune systems, etc. another award i think is dumb is this one at our school where if you're a 3rd+ generation living in the town, then you get an award. so basically, all the immigrants are exempt from that one. oh and this one other award where it requires you to be a christian and to display "good hygiene". ...so messed up.. |

^ do you go to a christian school? otherwise that's seriously against the law...
anyway, i always thought the perfect attendance award was unfair. you can't help it if you're sick. |

an award should be made so that they know that that person who is getting the award worked hard for it. and not just did something in order to get something back and act as if it was nothing.
i gues the award should be given out to people that realy deserve it. |

my friend told me his dad has a classmate who had perfect attendence, from kindergarten to highschool. on graduation day, he said "how do you like me now?" and put a shotgun to his head and killed himself.

QUOTE(sadolakced acid @ Jun 5 2005, 11:59 PM) Oh of course, thats why seniors were required to come to school and sit in a room to watch Citizen Kane while the underclassmen completed standardized testing. Still, the "award" means nothing. 'Thanks you little snot-nosed bastard for putting cash in my pocket!' |

QUOTE(BrandonSaunders @ Jun 9 2005, 12:52 PM) I think I am misunderstood. What I mean to say is that there seems to be a general consensus in this thread that perfect attendence is not worth being awarded, which implies that it is not something notable, which implies it is simple to achieve; which begs the question, if it is not notable enough to be awarded, i.e. it is simple to achieve, then why is it not achieved more often? |

I don't see why not, its not like people are obsessed with getting to school just to get an award, not any i know anyway...And if they are then they are probably very stressed out individuals

I think the perfect attendance awards motivates them to try and get awards like Honor Roll and whatnot. Plus they can be somewhat proud of getting an award for being there everyday as well. I always liked getting them. I've gotten them every year.

i know what you mean. their are plenty of other ways to reward kids. having honor roll (good grades) should be enough. the kid is obviously going to school enough to get the good grades to begin with. the person getting a perfect attendance award could have crappy grades, and therefore deserves no award once so ever.

Yes, it should be allowed for goods, not for effortless students. Perfect attendance award should include people who attend, work hard and get good grades.
So what if the student get sick, who fault is that? unless they're force to be sick. Student should be responsible for their health. |

Student should be responsible for their health. It's no one's fault. Bacteria and viruses aren't anyone's fault. One cant' control their health. They can try their best to keep themselves well, but there are times where you get sick and can't go to school. ![]() |

I wouldn't care if I didn't recieve a perfect attendence award and I wouldn't be too excited if I recieved one either. Perfect attendence awards are invented by the school for the sole reason of trying to keep students in school. Schools lose money for every absence and a "perfect attendence" award might give some students another incentive to stay in school. I don't think many people aim to get a perfect attendence award.
May I suggest a perfect attendence award with excused absences allowed? What do you think about that? |

I think they should. It gives kids something to aim for and makes them want to go to school. My brother was mad because he was breaking perfect attendence to go to Virginia for a basketball tournemetn for 3 days (one day being a Friday.) He eventually got over though because it was fun...I also heard colleges give out some money for perfect attendence so it can benifit in the future also.

But then it would encourage kids to forge notes which could lead them into trouble in the future if they continued to do that and made it a habit. But that probably wouldn't be too big an issue. |
