hmmm ever notice that some races (mostly just black and white)seem to be restricted of how far their fashion can go? for example whenever a white kid whore any hip hop clothing like Fubu, SthPole, SeanJohn etc. he would be called a whigger and wannabe black and all that shit(at leats at my school) . matter of fact i have a friend who went through that now he dresses punk rocker like. rolleyes.gif same goes for black people. whenever a black kid wheres any prep clothing like lets say A&F or hollister he'll be ridiculed, called white and all that. like once this kid(who is black) named Teddy at my school ( yes teddy) wore a collared shirt with the collar up and this kid i know Nick (who happens to be black) is all like "man put your collar down thats white people shit." i was like oookay wtf.
so thats what i mean by restricted, is one type of clothing meant for on race and another type is meant the other? A&F would be called "white people clothes"
FUBU would be called "black people clothes" hence the for US by US.
What do YOU think? happy.gif

I know a kid named Teddy too.
It's liek that here. I dont really care, but it gets annoying sometimes.
&i dont mean to sound rude or anything. and it may just be me, but have you ever noticed that a really big black girl can wear tiny clothes and still look good, but a white girl cant?

&yeah, kids pick on other kids for dressing how they want if they dont approve.
its stupid.

it's all just stupid stereotyping; people need to be less self-conscious about what other people think.

I have a friend named Cathy and she's asian, wore an Abercrombie shirt to school and all the asians were like, "Why are you wearing whites' clothes?" Well then again, Abercrombie did get sued for only hiring white people, but whatever.

Hmm.. We don't have that kind of conflict at our school or at least not yet. Have quite a few racists, but I'm getting off the subject.

I dont see anything wrong with a white person Fubu, SthPole, SeanJohn. I mean really, whats the the problem. The only time I have a problem is when they call themselves trying to be gangsta with it. For some of them its like man you grew up in the suburbs, give me a break. Same goes with black people dressing prepy, punkish. etc. I dont see what the big deal is. Me, personally I dont care about all of that. I try to stratch the surfice and get to know the person rather wasting time judging them on how they dress.

yea. there's this one kid in my school who dresses in clothes "made for black people", and people call him "whitey". he doesn't really care though. like, he probably grew up in a place where that was normal for people to wear.

that's a good philosophy. of course, not all white people grow up in nice suburbian settings with perfect families......

I think that's ridiculous. People shouldn't be restricted by their race on how they dress. You can wear whatever you feel like wearing. But I have noticed that certain ethnicities wear a certain brand or type of clothing, so I think people are just used to stereotypes.

that's stupid. do these (disgracing and brainless) asians expect us to trample into school wearing kimonos or what?

i don't have a problem with what someone wears as long as it's appropriate and as long as it doesn't decide who they are.

no i dont notice it. it doesnt happen at my school. it's just stereotyping, but it doesnt mean that you have to follow stereotypical fashions. and "restricted fashion" only comes when people care about what others think about them.

Hmm. I don't really see much of that here. It's uncommon to see black people dress in, say, my sense of fashion, but I think it's really neat. I guess for myself it's unusual, too, but oh well. I agree with mzkandi on this, though. Like Sammi said, it's sad that people don't follow that philosophy. ermm.gif

Eh, I think it's stupid. I agree with sadolakced acid, however.

But I like some A & F clothes, simply because of the quality. I like their hoodies as well. They're comfy.

But back on topic: The reason people say things like that is because of the marketing schemes. Brands like Fubu, SthPole and Sean John are being marketed to African-Americans, whereas A & F has more of a preppy feel, and is being marketed to Caucasians.

Oh, and BTW, Fubu stands for "For Us, By Us." Fubu was founded by an African-American, so it's an underhanded mesage saying it's made for African-Americans, by African-Americans. _dry.gif Oh well, I don't wear Fubu, anyhow.

no. Thats stupid. I'm glad I dont go to your school. Style is style. People dress a certain way because its a look. If ur a guy and have cornrows and gold teeth, it kinda looks dumb to be wearing an american eagle polo and some chick pants with a studded belt. Its all a look. My boyfriend wears fubu shorts (hes as white as they get lol) and no one says anything because they dont really look fubu. Theyre just shorts. I say wear whatever the hell you want. I mean when I worked there, I had more lesbians (black and white) come in and buy guy clothes at american eagle than any other type of person. Second was hispanic males. Does that mean that american eagle is only for lesbians and hispanic guys? no. That will tell u a little something about "white clothes" and "black clothes" Wear what u want. if it looks good on you, be secure enough in yourself not to care what other people think about it. If you do care so much, why dont u take those a-hole with you shopping? stubborn.gif

Well first off something is wrong with your school...and second....im not racist, but alot of white people who dress the urban look...[looks kinda goofy]....they grown out there chin hairs and wear hats sideways..and let there pants sag alot..but anyways well may-be in fla only...but back to the matter....A&f isnt white people clothes and matter of fact to prove it. the newest model for them is black and well that is one of the hardest clothing stores to work for and if you watch m.t.v. [i know most of you do] american eagle commerical is always on and well theres a black guy on it....Im latin and well alot of latin live in the ghettho and well alot relate to blacks so they dress urban....,but i was raised in manhattan so i was bored around money and nice schools and blah so i dress preppy...but when you hear the word prep...you assume a white guy with blonde hair and a polo and some flip flops or a blonde girl with no type of i.q. and says omg like theres no tommorow...and when you think the urban look you think of baggy clothes and well i dont think a white girl can wear something saying apple bottom...cuz i will <3 to see that...lol..but yeah its all dumb and its wear you live...go to big city's and you will be fine.

Same here.

Also, what sets these things are, are the fact that besides the clothes, they all act like the stereotypes.

For example, all the white kids in my school who go for the urban look all think that they are black. They would try to talk like black people, and try to imitate everything else that they do. But the thing is, they all hang with other wiggers and shit, and barely hang out with any black people. Whats the point of them trying to be like them, when you don't even talk to them?

Anyways, sure it's ok for them to wear the clothes, but I think it's going to far when they try to act and imitate.

it actually makes me happy to see black guys stepping outta the box.
but see, its sad. it shouldnt even look strange to anyone, that a black guy is wearing AE or A&F. or a white guy wearing hip hop clothing, then people saying "he thinks hes black". like thats what defines black people. its just funny how we let clothing define who we are. personally, i dont like the thugged out look.
it seems too...phony.and i dont like how it swallows me. and i dont think u have to wear all that to show your love for hip hop. im mean look at Kanye. i like kanye's sense of style or common. we wear the clothes the clothes dont wear us. if that makes any sense lol i thought that would be a cool little quote hehe im sorry , i got a little cheesy.
