well, here in nashville, the name of the airport is nashville international but, the cod is BNA.. who know what the B means...

i always wondered that about LAX!
 but i have always understood our airport because it is DFW (Dallas, Fort Worth) -> the two major cities in the metroplex. ;]

I was always under the impression that LAX was Los Angeles Internation -- because X seemed like a fancy way of labeling the word 'international'.
