yeah, www.sparknotes.com ..
well, at my school .. we're doing this thing called Accelerated Reader .. if you dont know what i'm talking about .. then please click "back" .. basically , i'm wondering if tha study guides for AR books would help me pass a test .. without actually reading tha book .. cause i haven't been reading my book .. LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring .. i'm only on page 80 .. and i've hadd tha book for like 5 weeks .. [[ .. i've been sleeping during silent reading .. ]] .. and i don't read at home .. there's 20 days of school left ... and there's no way i can committ to reading 400 + pages .. soo .. if i study tha study guide for my book on sparknotes, would it really help me pass tha test ? .. if i gett replys of " no " .. i'll try to study tha thing on sparknotes hard and take my chances .. edit\\ QUOTE(jnukes ( recent post ) ) eghh !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've used Sparknotes as a study guide, and they just summarize. Sparknotes will get you by if your teacher just wants the surface level stuff. However, if he/she wants detail, you're better off reading the book.

yeah whenever I take AR tests..it's usually based on really broad questions. but goodluck with your test...I do suggest you read as much as you can from the real book though.

we don't have AR at my high school but we had it in elementary and middle school and if you read ALL the sparknotes on it, than surely you will able to pass the AR test.

I would suggest reading as much of the book as you can. No matter hos good cliffnotes.com and sparknotes.com are..you get the ultimate story from the actual book itself.
And you CAN finish it..just set aside an hour or two every single day to read LOTR. It's actually quite interesting..it's not a boring book. Now, two days from the day you have to finish it, you can use SparkNotes. I wouldn't suggest using it now. |

last time i did AR was 5 years ago...
hmm anyways; AR just tests characters and plot; so yes, i'd say sparks would work fine. |

Pfft I never read, I ALWAYS use Sparknotes. Or bookrags.com
I'm the biggest slacker you'll ever meet.  We used to have Accelerated Reader in elementary school because we were all too lazy to actually read books. That's when I actually READ.

I can't believe I actually read this time around. I had to read The Color Purple by Alice Walker. The movie is like it but some of the events are missing. So anyways.. I actually read the book this time around.
Last time, I didn't even bother to read or go to sparknotes. Sparknotes leaves stuff out though, and plus my teacher used to write for them so she knows whether we are plagerizing or not. |

Sparknotes.com's a really good site, it provides you with summaries of each chapter along with plot overview, character analysis, and etc.
BUT the A.R. tests' aren't like that, sophicated-like. [At least at my old school.] You probably would use sparknotes in reports and stuff like that, but A.R. has detailed questions that you might consider at least reading. Considering your [thick] book, watch the movie and use the sites as best as you can. DON'T WASTE ANYMORE TIME! |

come on now, AR tests were the easiest thing ever. i never even considered using sparknotes for anything till i hit high school and lost my attention span and will to do anything, so i wouldn't know if they'd help AR. but i would say should should just read the damn books, because reading is good, and they have really books on there. what is your reading level? mine was from 6th grade through college level (how that works out im not sure) so i could basically read anything i wanted and it would always be my level. i don't think i ever failed an AR test. i got a 70 or 2 though. i wish i were smart again. i got in the top 10 for AR points one year. i have trophes

lol... This reply is too late, I know...
I did AR when I was in elementary school. We don't do them anymore... Haha, one time, I was reviewing for Shakespeare's As You Like It the night before a test on Sparknotes (yes, I actually read the book). Then, while I was taking the test at school, I noticed that all the questions were the same exact ones from Sparknotes.com.  I didn't tell the teacher, since I didn't know she got her test from Sparknotes beforehand, so I didn't consider it cheating. ^_^Anyway, I think next time, you should just review the book a little before doing Sparknotes, that way you have a familiar view of the actual book, or read the summaries on the site, if you didn't/don't. Good luck next time! ^_^ |
