I started this for the vexel contest (I'm sure most of you will recognize the picture!!), but when I got finished on the face and went to start the shoulder, I sat back and actually looked at it.

It sucks.

So I pulled out of the contest, and now I just want some advice from you. It obviously sucks, but what can I do to improve it??

This is my first one, by the way. pinch.gif

its good for a first
I really like the eyes
I like how it looks liquidy
but theres too much contrast
maybe make more layers and make the colors a little closer together...
but other than that its good! happy.gif

i think your shapes should be less pointed and more rounded at the edges. the eyeshadow looks good but you shouldnt use that amount of contrast for the rest of her skin. the lips needs alot more layers

I really, really like it! I love vectors/vexels where the shapes are obvious and there's a lot of contrast. But...the lips could use more layers, and the top lip looks like it's sliding off the bottom lip. Kind of weird. =\

My goodness, guys, you are generous.

So, if I posterised it using more levels, to give me more skin colors, that may help?

uh, I think you just need to change the skin layers so that there is less difference between each one. Its quite easy. I actually think there are enough layers. good job! _smile.gif

Use more layers. If you're posterizing the image before you vexel/vector it, raise the posterization number. To like.. 12. Or something.

Okay. My PS isn't opening right for some reason... I think I need to restart. But I opened my sample up there^ up in my PSP and just changed some colors, just to get an idea of whether to put in the effort or not. Does it look any smoother? It's really pixelly because I just basically messed with colors, not the actual layers.

and I didn't touch the eyes yet, either, I will later.

Try using more layers and decreasing the contrast between each color layer. Make the shapes a little smoother too. Nice start =]

^I was going to say what Grace said. =P Also, try to make the skin lighter but keeping the same contrast between each additional layer. When it comes to shading, dark gray doesn't look as as nice as light gray.

i really like it like that...it almost depicts the masks of makeup some girls put on to make themselves "beautiful", when in reality they alreay are...

its really nice. but to improve it, you can make more layers and use colors that blend a little more.

I agree with most. U need to decrease the darkness...make less of a contrast between each skin color. Its really a great start, but try fiddling witht he brightness on each layer, till you get something a little smoother.
