Well..Doom 3 give you that feeling of fear..(I've only played the demo though)

But, Half life 2 (I own) is totally awesome The VISUAL graphics don't really match Doom 3 but the story line, the physics, the npc's Are awesome.

Mods rock too

Halo 2 multiplayer is terrible. You can't go on live without being called a noob by 12 year olds, or hearing "OMG pwned!" every five seconds.

lol, maybe if you weren't such a total n00b you wouldn't have to worry about it.

halo 2 is definitely the best because with most video games, you play them for a month or so, then you get tired of them. I played halo 1 regularly for 2 1/2 years.

Now I play halo 2 almost every day, other games may come in and I'll play them for a while, but I always go back to halo 2 because it is so much better than everything else. Not only that, but the game creaters really listen to the fans out there, with new patches regularly, new maps, new gametypes, and settings, and they keep the fan base happy and they keep game play fun.

I could never play another first person shooter again, I've tried, but they just aren't fun anymore compared to halo.

n00b? How do you know how I play? I've gotten my share of killing sprees and running riots... Another problem is when people accuse you of cheating if you're winning.

Halo 1 (PC) > Halo 2.

They ruined the human pistol. I can't forgive them for it.

Level design plays a key role in the success of FPS's. Very few Halo 2 maps stand out to me (other than Zanzibar and Coag). Meanwhile, I can name several CS maps that are very fun to play on.

Plus the controls still aren't good for me. To me, nothing beats the old WASD and mouse.

I suppose your reason for Halo2 being the best is cause of patches, maps, gametypes and settings??Half Life 2 easily fits those categories. I don't think that is the real reason you actually like it.

Id like to know what your rank is in Halo 2.

And I agree with these guys, Halo 2 is not all its cracked up to be. At best it may be addictive, and even that goes out the window after a month or so, when youre tired of being accused of cheating and having prepubescent voices call you a n00b or a f4g.

lol really, Nobody knows that HL1 and HL2 are only the Game Engines ?
The games you are playing exactly,
on HL1 Game Engine you have CS (all versions) & CSCZ (Condition Zero)
on HL2 Game Engine you have CSS ( Counter-Strike Source)
Every Game Engine has his own Single Player, but those are made for training.
So when you say you're playing HL you actually say that your playing all those games in the same time. lol

Soon it will come another Game (G A M E, not another version) for HL2 Game Engine. Who will pown all FPS existing games, it will be a single problem you need a Titan not a computer ;-) and the latest GraFX Cards so you can really play`it :)
(hint: it will look like Quake 4)

Enjoy

Nope, they actually are Only, Game Engines, im sorry i can't really give you a screenshot to see how a server setup looks like for any game like that, even its Ranked or UnRanked or Its Private Or Public, they all are running on a Game Engine, and eve if you dont choose the right Game Engine for that game the server wont be up, im not allowed to show any admin panel setups, but i can tell you that HL1/HL2 are only Game Engines :)

Ok Im sorry but I have no idea what youre talking about.

Many people confuse the engine with the entire game. That would be like confusing an automobile engine with an entire car. You can take the engine out of the car, and build another shell around it, and use it again. Games are like that too. The engine can be defined as all the non-game specific technology. The game part would be all the content (models, animations, sounds, AI, and physics), and the code required specifically to make that game work, like the AI, or how the controls work.

Half Life/Half Life 2 are games, based upon the engine.

The engine can also be modded into other games, as RiC3bOy said. These games include, of course, CS: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, and even the fan made Goldeneye: Source. Notice the "Source" at the end of each game name. That refers to the Source Engine in which all these games run opon.

Of course you have games like CounterStrike, Team Fortress, TacOps, Strike Force, and Quake Soccer are among numerous new games created from existing game engines, with most using one of iD's Quake engines as their basis.

Half Life and Half Life 2 are games. From the Wikipedia:

"Half-Life 2 is a first-person shooter computer game and the highly anticipated sequel to Half-Life, developed by Valve Software. [...] The game utilizes the advanced Source game engine, coupled with a heavily modified version of the Havok physics engine, and was critically acclaimed for ground-breaking improvements in computer animation, computer graphics, artificial intelligence (AI) and physics." That's the problem with Halo 2. The game sucks. The online playing sucks. You get modded or bridge or hosted every which way. But the interface is freaking incredible, and EVERYONE plays it online. It's like trying to escape the plague.

Let me ask you this. what IS the source engine. Not many people can answer that. Besides the obvious, "Half life 2 engine."

Main Article on Wikipedia

The Source engine (officially the Valve Source Engine) is a 3D game engine developed largely by Valve Software for their first-person shooter computer game Half-Life 2 and for licensing to other developers. It provides rendering, sound, animation, lip syncing, UI (specifically VGUI), networking, artificial intelligence, and physics. Source supports both 32-bit and 64-bit environments and currently runs under Microsoft Windows and on the Xbox.

Source requires modern hardware to run with all visual and audio effects enabled, but is extremely scalable and can run smoothly on an array of older systems.

The engine debuted on Half-Life 2. Valve has also ported the original Half-Life and mods such as Counter-Strike to the Source engine (appropriately titled Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life: Source). Other games include Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Day of Defeat: Source, Half-Life: Source Deathmatch and Half-Life 2: Episode One.

Troika Games' Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines was the first publicly announced licensee of the Source engine. In fact, Bloodlines "went gold" before Half-Life 2, though its commercial release was contractually delayed so that Half-Life 2 would hit stores before Bloodlines. Valve later announced licensees including Arkane Studios (for the first-person RPG Dark Messiah of Might & Magic) and Smiling Gator Productions (for Twilight War: After the Fall, a MMORPG).

Ritual Entertainment announced on July 4, 2005 that they had licensed both Source and Steam for their new episodic sequel to Sin, SiN Episodes.

Warren Spector's and Art Min's Junction Point Studios has announced that it has licensed both Source and Steam for an as yet unannounced title.

The most obvious improvements of Source over the old Half-Life GoldSrc engine are in the areas of rendering and physics. Rendering now takes a shader-based approach that allows greater control over the graphics to create interesting visual effects. Source uses Direct3D exclusively for its rendering.

The physics, based on a heavily-modified version of the Havok physics engine, allows for an extra dimension of interactivity in both single player and online environments. Character death can now be handled by ragdoll physics and many physically simulated objects can exist in a map without a notable performance hit. Source also provides sophisticated vehicle physics including torque, power, gears, tire material, suspension and mode. Multiple players can be in the same vehicle, but this feature has yet to be used.

Source features 3D skyboxes, which allow for an area outside (or even inside) the accessible map to be displayed as a skybox at an exponentially increased scale with full 3D parallax. This adds a greater sense of depth to the surrounding environment, and allows for the illusion of far larger maps than the engine actually supports.
Source's advanced facial animation is demonstrated in this screenshot of Dr. Issac Kleiner and Alyx Vance from Half-Life 2.

Source also has the ability to simulate characters' facial expressions in real-time. Valve says that forty-two digital "facial muscles" are used for facial simulation. Lip syncing is also a major feature, and is auto-generated by SDK tools. Lip sync data is stored with audio files, allowing for easy localization of dialogue.

Source also includes and expands on Valve's existing animation blending technology, allowing any animation to merge with any other animation - including facial animation, lip syncing, and gestures. Similarly, Source supports Inverse Kinematics, or IK, to ensure character's limbs react to environments. For instance, feet will angle themselves to the surface they are on and legs will bend higher when climbing stairs. Both technologies work in real-time.

The game also also aimed to improve audio design. The sounds in the game are seperated into two distinct frequencies which are then played at an accurate volume depending on distance of the sound source, giving the sound effect realistic properites. An explosion at great distances sounds like a low pitched bellow, but up close, a sharp, loud crack. The player can also observe this effect by going near one of the talking terminals in the game, and walking to and from the machine while listening to the pitch shift.

I used to go over to my friend's house after school sometimes last year and I used to play Half Life 2. I really enjoyed it more than I did Halo 2, but for multiplayer I'd have to say I really like Halo 2. So for single player fun - Half Life 2, multiplayer fun - Halo 2. Does Half Life 2 have a multiplayer function?

lol really, Nobody knows that HL1 and HL2 are only the Game Engines ?

Enjoy

uh, no there are actually GAMES called half-life 1 and half-life 2, please slit ur wrists and sit back down

theres an engine called half-life, which is used to make mods like cs or dod

and there is no half-life 2 engine, its called the source engine

hence Counter-Strike: Source, not Half Life 2: Counter-Strike

Half Life: Counter-Strike <> Counter-Strike: Source

Actually, Half Life 1 uses the Quake engine as its base.
