To those of Vietnamese descent, this April 30th mark the 30th anniversary of the fall of Saigon. Take this opportunity to learn more about your history, whether you are Nationalist or Communist, and educate others. Nationalists explain our flight and why we continue to hope for freedom in the native land.

yes, today is the 30th anniversary of the fall of saigon.

last week in ap us history, i learned that the vietnam war was basically 2 wars. the northern vietnamese were nationalists and fighting for a nationalist cause, whereas the US thought that they were communists and fighting against communism.

i'm not vietnamese, but i still feel that this war was unnecessary.

I don't understand your post enough to agree or disagree with you about the neccessity, or unneccessity, of fighting that war. However, you must know that there are more than three point of views where the Vietnam War is concerned: the US, the Nationalists, the Communists, and the rest of the world. From a Nationalist perspective, that war caused 2 millions to be incarcerated (beaten, tortured to death... etc) and another 2 million to flee from their homes. What you learn in AP History, is barely 1/3 of the story and that is why it's so important for Vietnamese kids to know their history beyond what they learn in classrooms.
