I think when people mention know-it-alls, they are referring to the people who think they know everything. And that their opinions are superior to everyone elses. Some of these know-it-alls, actually dont know much of anything and come across looking dumb when asked to prove their points. That is what I meant by 'popular' in my original post. I consider them fairly interchangeable. There are a lot of people who are not necessarily liked by many, but known by many and considered popular.
