Bands such as The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, Hot Hot Heat, The Hives, The Libertines, The Strokes, etc. have all been referred to as "New Wave" rock bands for their 80's pop/rock influence and their catchy tunes.

Which of these bands are you into or have you heard from?

My favorite band are The Killers, but I've also listened to music from Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, and Hot Hot Heat and I'm very pleased. I think I may just get addicted to this kind of music. It's very catchy and fun and even good to dance to. _smile.gif

Oh yes, I love these kind of music. Something that bugs me about The Killers and Fran Ferdinand is that their lyrics does not make sense at all. Though the music is really good. The Killers are also one of my favorite bands.

I've heard of all of the ones that you've listed.
I'm only into Franz Ferdinand. Sometimes their songs get on my nerves though...They get old kind of quickly, but nonetheless, they're awesome.

i love most of them! not much into the hives, strokes, or hot hot heat, but theyre alright. i adored franz ferdinand when they first came out, but im a bit tired of them. also this radio obsession with r brightside has taken the allure out of thekillers for me as well, but i still love them both

I love The Strokes. They remind me of the good old rock. As for the rest, I like some, but most don't interest me and get old incredibly quickly.

I actually like his voice; it's different. He sounds a bit stoned though, but that just adds on to the originality for me.

not really. That's just what people call it because the bands who influenced these bands were new wave bands from the 80s.

Hmm...I like Hot Hot Heat's old CD, Make Up The Breakdown. It's a fun, catchy 80's pop throwback.

The Killers are ok, but like some people, I think they're getting a bit played.

Franz Ferdinand grates on my nerves.

Interpol is f*n great. I've been an Interpol fan since their first CD. Their new stuff really isn't my bag, but eh, it can't all be great.

Snow Patrol is a band I just can't stand. They're Interpol knock-offs.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are also pretty good. I love "Maps".

Radiohead is nearly GOD. Thom Yorke is a genius. I love everything they've ever done, with the exception of Pablo Honey. I don't know if Radiohead really counts since they've been around for awhile.

The Faint are one of my top five bands. I f*n love the Faint. I have their last two CDs and I downloaded "Blank-Wave" just to have it. I love that one as well. "Wet From Birth" Rarely leaves my stereo and "Danse Macabre" was in my stereo so long that I have everything off of it memorized.

Does the Postal Service count on this topic? Are they considered to be new wave?? I'm really into them and the synths are perfect, in my opinion. If the Postal Service counts, then I'm gonna count Namelessnumberheadman and Headphones as new wave. There's also The Anix, Fischerpooner, Electric Six, Ladytron, VHS or Beta and tons of other bands that fall into this "new-wave" thing.

*sigh* First new wave, then goth and industrial will come back. tongue.gif

What do you mean "then goth & industrial will come back"? They've always been around...I'm sure a lot of people still listen to that kind of music.

I like them all.
What scares me though, is that if they get popular, they're going to start to suck. Such as, Green day.

I listen to "that kind" of music. In the late 70s/early 80s, new wave and synthpop music were popularized first, then gothic rock music/ goth music came into its own, followed by industrial. All of which sprang from the punk and disco scenes of the late 70s. What I meant by "the goth & industrial will come back" is that if the music styles follow the same path as they did when they first came about, then goth music and industrial music are getting ready to be "reborn" in the modern music scene.

I <3 Industrial music. I mess with synths as a hobby. I really wish that goth and industrial music would come back. cool.gif

To tell you the truth, I was trying to find the genre for them, [because I despise absolutely all of them], and i figured it was either indie or new wave. Hm, this is definately my least liked genre out of all the music genres.

The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, Hot Hot Heat, The Hives, The Libertines, The Strokes

These are the bands that I have heard of.

The Killers: I LOVE "Mr. Brightside" very sweet tune. I can't stop listening to this music. It's been No.1 at the music countdown such as Hits and Rock! The music video was PERFECT and awesome. because i love those arty music videos hehe.
Franz Ferdinand: "Take me out" very nice. I have that song on my cellular phone too.
Interpol: "Slow Hands" it's ok.... the music video was cool where it was frozen every minute... breaks it on and off.
Hot Hot Heat: I like the song "Good night, Goodnight" Well not really my favorite song but it always stuck in my head forever and ever... lol so it's annoying sometimes. But it's ok to hear. I thought the music video was dumb.
