Meh, is it just me or does no one here listen to the real goth music. No I am not talking about Slipknot [rapcore] or Goth Metal music. I am talking about the real stuff including The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, you name yours. It's really like.... the older Halloween music you've heard actually. Techno flair here and there, morbid vocals. I guess you can say.... Marilyn Manson is partially a branch of that.

I don't like labeling. I mean, yeah, i listen to Marilyn but I'm by no means "goth"

I'm sure people still listen to all of those things.... So, I dunno

While goth music is not really my thing, I have heard of Siouxsie and the Banshees (Jigsaw Feeling is one of the songs I am familiar with) and The Cure because my roomate is really into goth music.

The Cure, their older stuff is mucho "gothic" compared to their newer stuff.... I don't know if you guys have heard their older stuff.

And Kathleen's sister x], that's... not under the category of gothic music lol. It's more of an industrial mix of metal.... perhaps.

Compared to today's society (and it's horrible miscontrued and naive 'definitation'/'genre'/whatever), labeling The Cure "goth," is far-fetched.

why do all these people label themselves goth anyway? goths were an old tribe from scandinavia that died out a long time ago. so there really is no such thing as "goth" music

It is not I who is labeling them. It is a GENRE. I do not come up with these genres SpedMonkee.

If someone to ask you if you like pop music or rap music, it would be the same thing as I am asking right now. All because it is less known does not mean I am making it up off of the top of my head.

Real goth music....hmmm....I listen to the Sisters of Mercy, Bella Morte, The Cruxshadows, The Smiths, Morrissey, The Cure, Jack Off Jill, Type O Negative, Voltaire, Wolfsheim, Depeche Mode, Covenant of Thorns, Killing Miranda, Halo in Reverse, To/Die/For, The 69 Eyes, Nine Inch Nails, Manson.....I love goth music...I haven't heard much Siouxsie and the Banshees but some of my friends are into them and they have been telling me to check them out forever. I just haven't really heard anything that really grabbed me. The same goes for Bauhaus, Peter Murphy, and some other old school goth bands....

PS- Genre labeling sucks, but eh, it has a purpose.....organisation....

PPS- Goth is an attitude and a style. It also a very broad genre of music. I think that all of the bands I listed above are goth and that their music is goth. You can argue, but I don't really think that anyone on this board was around when goth music was in it's prime and "truest" form. Everything changes over time, esp. music. Synths may have changed the way that modern goth music sounds, but to me, synths or no synths, it's still goth music.

I tried listening to some goth music one time at the AOL Radio thingy. It was alright, I guess, but it isn't really my kind of music.

Goth and rock music aren't the same thing. Goth music isn't considered a kind of rock music.

I normally don't stereotype them as "Goth", so yeah. Either Heavy Metal, Industrail Rock, etc etc. -_- other than that, I don't really listen to any (Unless you consider some J-rock as rather goth-esque)

1) I don't label myself a goth. I label myself weird. Other people call it goth.
2) I never heard of Goth music. I like the vampiric songs (think Queen of the Damned soundtrack) but I never thought to call that Goth. I never thought of Manson as a branch of Goth either, but I love his music so *shrug*. Beyond that I listen to Metal (er..starting to anyway)

Skinny Puppy is awesome. I'm more of an OhGr fan myself, I didn't put them on my list cuz I consider them to be more industrial than gothic music. Cradle of Filth is good too, also didn't make my list due to my considering them to be more metal than goth. Orgy...don't know why I didn't include them *shrug*. Razed In Black is awesome, there's some vampire club music right there. Apop. is all right, I have heard lots of their stuff but never really got into them.

What about VNV Nation, Nitzer Ebb, Zeromancer, Ministry and Laibach???

I include industrial music into the whole gothic genre. I like OhGr better as well.
I didn't add VNV Nation and Zeromancer because I was trying to keep the list down to a bare minimum. Otherwise, it would be extrememly long.

Okay no, what the fcuk. This just proves my point that the majority of thier fan base (as well as Green Day's) consists of a bunch of teenage girls thinking the band is hot, and only listens to them because of that. You failed to get his name, right too. Poor Mikey. stubborn.gif

Nice, nice choices, Brit is it?

However, they are not goth music, bleh, if only i can.... show you guys the outline. Hm, orgy = industrial, same with OhGr..... and a lot of the others.... Cradle Of Filth = death metal, most of the other choices are alt metal.

Ugh, I told you guys already. I categorize industrial with gothic music, because that's what it is.
I know very well what genre Cradle of Filth and Orgy are, thank you.
And no, most of my other choices are industrial, not metal.

^Ever heard of Ikon, or The Naked? I guess The Cruxshadows. I know about them because a lot of my friends in Florida listened to them. They were local there. That's how I started listening to Goth. I'm not a real hard core listener though. I like HIM. A lot of people say HIM is metal, but they actually label themselves as goth.

What's it to you, anyway? Kind of weird that you're so interested in me. Anything else you'd like to know? lmao.

HIM is... nothing close to metal, or goth, really.

I'd say they were more alternative.

the Cure is a Alternative Rock band, not even their early albums are goth. The Birthday Massacre is Synth Rock, Christian Death is Deathrock, Switchblade Symphony is Darkwave, Wumpscut is Industrial with Synthpunk elements and such. Ikon is a Gothic Rock band.. they're on Metropolis so of course they're going to have electronic elements. Personally I wouldn't consider the Naked goth but more Indie with SOME post-punk influences. The Cruxshadows is Darkwave. I'm not an elitist, I just like to categorize music.
