I would get my hair done in a salon only because I dont trust myself when it comes to things like that with my hair. The people in the salon are the experts on hair, but i do know many people who dye their own hair without a problem. so its really up you and what you're comfortable with

I get my hair done at my grandma's salon cuz she dyes my hair for free. =D I don't suggest dying it yourself cuz I tried to dye my hair black and it turned out blue...the brand was Revlon if you wanted to know. But my one friend uses this stuff from Hot Topic and it works for her...but I think you should go to a salon.

doing it at home is def less expensive but things can go terribly wrong. i would advise to go to a salon because my mom goes to a salon to get her hair done and she is always satisfied. wink.gif

I'll move this to fashion..because like hair and makeups been going there recently.

But if you still wondering what kind of color to use, try this brand..I think it's called Carol or something, it's a 30 day wash out color and then you can get an idea of what you want.

But I wouldn't take a chance for the first time, and just get it professionally done. It's more expensive that way though.

thats exactly like me. i don't trust myself doing at home...i always get it done at the salon. _smile.gif but it all depends what you're comfortable with, and how much money you're willing to spend.

i died my hair like 2 weeks ago. and it was the do it yourself kind. it turned out great.

but only lasted about 2 weeks. it's basicly gone now.

so i'm not sure maybe it was just the brand.

i do mine every month or so, and its cheaper to do it yourself. it isnt to hard. for natural colors loreal paris is a good brand, easy to use and not too expensive. the only thing you have to remember when you dye at home is to make sure you get your whole head if you're doing it all over, make sure you dont miss spots cause thats easy to do.

I have a lot of experience dying (and destroying pinch.gif ) my hair, and I think the brand of at home color that worked best and left my hair feeling the healthiest was feria, by loreal. I've gotten my hair done countless times in a salon as well, and unless you are willing to pay for it, a good dye job is cheaper at home. I did a hair modeling show, and the only time my hair was ever done really well was by those people, they work for farouk systems, the brand that makes chi irons, and that was the best hair color job I ever had. Since I was a model it was free, so I asked the chik how much it would be, she said she would charge 300$ in her salon. so yeah.

i've never colored my hair, highlighted it or dyed it... i don't feel the need to. i mean, my hair is black and im happy with it that wey. if i dyed it, it would just be a lighter brown or this hair color i once saw in an ad when i was in china and it looked kinda pretty. reddishbrownish, sorta.

i wouldn't do it at a salon in the US. scratch that, i wouldnt be ALLOWED to. my parents think its too expensive and i'd get the same thing for less in china. after all, i only go to a hair salon ONCE a year and thats only to cut it like, half an inch because my mom forces me to cut it a little. she thinks it gets too messy. but in all honesty, ive NEVER been to a salon in the US for anything else. i got my hair japanese (chemically) straightened in CHina though. cost 390 yuan, which is basically equivalent to $49 here whistling.gif

so i would probably highlight/color my hair by myself if i was in the US...and if i was in China, then in a salon laugh.gif

maybe just dye it yourself or ask a friend/your parents to help you. 'cuz sometimes the salon costs alot just to dye your hair.. but if you want to make your hair really nice, i suggest going to the salon (that is if you are willing to pay more)

for diy:
Loreal is best. if you have dark hair to begin with make sure you get the special one that is exclusivley for dark hair. i've used it a couple of times and it works pretty well. _smile.gif
salon:
i've had mine done once at snip n' clip i think it was about 30-45 dollars and they did a rly good job! i've been recently though been getting it done at beauty brands and they're a tad bit more expensive but still gets the job done.

Go to a salon. Your hair could turn out horribly wrong. But as a last resort, L'Oreal makes a terrific line. My friend does hers all the time and trusts them. But only as a last resort.

I get my hair done at the salon. But for me my reason is I have some greys and home brands won't cover them very well. I also have long hair, almost to my elbows, and as one person mentioned before, it would get messy and be very easy to miss spots if I did it myself. I also get it streaked many different colours at once, so going to the salon is better for me. But because of the expense, I don't go as often as I would like to go.

If you are looking to just change your colour a bit - not an intense change - and you don't care about streaking and cost is an issue for you, then you can do it at home. I used to do it myself with no help before the greys came in and before it was this long and before I decided I liked streaks.

i ALWAYS get it done in the salon and i dye my hair bout once every two months since i was in 3rd grade. although it costs a lot more, the dye stays in my hair much longer and it's professional. the hair stylists know what the hell they're doing!

Honestly, I think it would be better for you to do it at a salon. It's really not that expensive and you can trust the hairdresser to dye your hair correctly.

I would do my hair in a salon because the experts know best, & they probably done it like a million times. Even if the cost is high, its worth it! (unless you dont like it)
