I knew this would cause slight controversy [which is good at times], but I would like to know what religions you.... "dislike", or possibly you don't want to understand. Please also state why. It makes it dull if you just state the religion without an explanation. This should be interesting.

Basically all of them

I see it for people who need something to rely to get through life, rather than muster the strength to do it themselves. I don't need a contradictory storybook to tell me how to live.

Some people in this world shouldn't even be religious. They use it as an excuse for invading other peoples' lands, with grandiose illusions of an afterlife that can't be proven. They also use religion as a device for shielding their own ignorance and mental instability. What good are confessions when one can commit the same crime and repent several times over?

it's true that they use it as an excuse (example: iraq war). they still have a right to be religious, but they don't have a right to use it like that.

u know, I'm a Christian, and I don't run around and try to convert people. I also have no problem with gay people. One of my best guy friends is gay. I love him and would never judge him. But I can see why a lot of people have problems with Christians. I don't like a lot of Christians just becuase one of the aspects of Christianity is not to judge people, yet I see more Christians judging people and trying to "save their souls" when that goes against everything it stands for. I personally don't go to church, because there are too many hypocrites, I just beleive in Christ. Thats the way it works for me. i personally don't care much for Mormans, because every Morman I have met has tried to convert me. One guy I couldnt even say a sentance without "well can I read you something out of my mormon bible?" and I'd be like, can't we talk about something other than religion?? It really bugged me. But I still don't judge all Mormons. I think its unfair to generalize about a certain religion, because thats just as bad as being racist. Just like not all Muslims would fly a plane into a building, not all Mormons try to convert every person they meet, and not all Christians are hypocrites. Not saying there aren't some, but its not fair to generalise. I think people should beleive what they want if we all burn for eternity, or if there really is no heaven or hell, at least people might get along better.

i'm fine with most religions. but mormons scare me. no offense, but where i live (in taipei), there have been mormons who come up to me on the streets and block me from doing what i was doing to try and convert me to mormonism. people who are to extreme in religion are annoying.

mmm hmm me to -__-
Christianity is the only religion I know a fair amount about so I can't really say it's the only one I don't care for, also I'm surrounded by Christians 24/7 unlike people of other faiths which is most of the problam. it's mostly the people that really piss me off more than the religion itself, for a thousand resons I won't write here:dry:. And it's not like it's all of them of anything, it's the ones who constantly try to convert you and say you're going to hell and that are such horrible close minded bigits. Also christianity isn't what it was meant to be anymore. It's so comercial and a good christian is just someone who gose to church every sunday, not someone who is actualy a nice person and does good things for there community or somthing

Do you understand Islam very well?

I'm not quite sure why you said the Iraq war would be an example. I would appreciate it if you'll elaborate.

I don't dislike religion all that much, nor do I like it; I'm apathetic. People have their beliefs, and I have mine.

isn't buddhism a branch of ethicalism? it seems good and peaceful to me.

edit:
from my sociology textbook (and we just read about this today):

"...ethicalism is the belief that moral principles have a sacred quality. Ethical religions are based on a set of principles, such as truth, honor, and tolerance, that serve as as guide to living a righteous life. Some examples of ethical religions...are Buddhism, Confucianism, and Shintoism.. The goal for followers of ethical religions is to reach their highest human potential."

okay, so they're dedicating their lives to morality. doesn't sound so bad, does it? meh, i'm taking IB World Religions senior year, so i'll know more about this in a couple of years.

hm...Christianity because many people have tried to convert me as well. They just never listened. (And I'm not saying all Christians do this.)
and Islam. They say that Allah created the world a long time ago..blah blah blah..but their religion was invented not too long ago. They can be realistic at least. They copy the same ideas of other religions, especially Christianity.

I would definately have to say what I classify as neo-christianity.

I mean, wasn't the whole point of it.... during/a little after Christ's time to respect and help people of all beliefs, opinions, classes, etc.

If I am wrong, please do re-edit my belief, but a few hundred years after Christ's death, I think the name Christianity didn't really apply anymore. It was more of ignorance, self-centerism, and "saving" people.

The minds of people. -_-

Mmm. Christianity. Well, I don't really hate the religion...it just annoys me when some Christians go around saying " You'll go to hell if you're not Christian." stubborn.gif It just bugs me when hardcore Christians try to make everyone around them Christian.

I am gonna agree on the Christianity. My school has many "hardcore" Christians and they try to convert me all the time (I am not saying all Christians do though). They always say "you are going to hell if you are not christian."

What would you call a person who does believe in God, but doesn't follow a religion?

i'd have to say christianity. some christians are ok. but most i've met have tried to force their beliefs on me or condemn me for mine and the like. not all though. i can be friends with christians. one of my best friends is a superrrchristian, but he doesn't try to make me believe the same way as him or anything. it depends.

and i can't say anything about the jehova's (sp?) witnesses that come to peoples' doors cause i just think they're funny. laugh.gif

I'd have to say certain branches of Christianity.
I suppose that sounds odd, since I'm Catholic, but certain other "brances" of Christianity aren't exactly my favorite.
Christians tend to try and force their religions on other cultures and countries at times. I'm not saying all Christians do, because seeing that I'm Catholic and no one at my church really does that, but a lot of them do.

Christianity. Basicalyl for the reason that they rely so much on God to keep them safe and don't really have an opinion for themself. They think that God is the reason for everything, which I totally don't believe in.

thank you so much for that comeback because i was seriously going to go crazy. it's just pure ignorance if you dislike a religion because they shave their heads and practice peace?! mad.gif

but anyways, back to the topic itself. I know that this may stir some tension but Christianity irks me. i remember once, i got in a big verbal argument witha girl because she was preaching about how god was great and god was wonderful and that everyone was created equal yet she looks down on bisexuals. it's the huge hypocrisy that i dislike the most. they say that everyone is equal but once there is talk about a homosexual- they go bizerk and the whole "god created adam and eve NOT adam and steve" issue! it bothers me because they are being such hypocrites it. it's saddening because a homosexual would have to live with the thought that if they continue with their preferneces, then they will be damned to hell! i remember when "passion of the christ" was released, there was a newspaper article that said "after watching this, if you are not Christian- you might as well be damned to hell. convert yourselves!" i was so upset and bugged. countless Christians have tried to convert me, especially when i was younger. i remember a van full of "fun" people would always be near my elementary school and they would always pass out candy. little did i know that the songs they were singing were praising Jesus. -__-

another thing that bothers me about the religion is that no matter all the sins that you have committed in your life, when time comes for 'confessions'- all you do is confess everything you have done and you are free from everything and will be able to enter the gates of heaven. i'm sorry but that's a load of bull. it's like saying that you can commit crimes but once you have found HIM or confess yourself to him, you are free from all sins and can be sent to heaven when your time is near. it's just full of hypocrites, i'd say.

I don't know, I really respect everyone's religion and beliefs. I don't really like the whole idea of a religion though. Like I think people should be more individual on what they believe in and not be so dependent on things they are told to be dependent on. I just think people usually follow what they are born into and believe what they are told to believe.

all but mine because i believe that muslims are just using the God of Christians to be their God or just claiming but n e one can make up some religion n claim they believe in the Heavenly Father of the Christians. i just believe that Jesus is the only way to go or else you'll go to Hell. it's just my belief cuz it's wat i was raised to believe in n i believe in it all the way. i dont like n e other religions at all cuz...i believe there is only One God and that is the God of the CHristians and also that Jesus is Savior. n Judiasm...well...i just feel sad for them cuz they dont believe there a is a Christ.

Most morals [like.. in our present day] are based on religious values.. but some people are stretching/distorting them like they base their plans on a book instead of their own personal belief.

I do not have any problems with any religion.. but some people are the problem. They're missing out the point of religion. Religion is an another way of guiding a person's life.. guide not control or whatev.

Jesus Christ said to his disciples in the Bible to spread the 'word' not to convert because they cannot change other people but themselves. Spread the 'word' meaning to help others and everything.. Yes, apostles do want people in church because they believe that it would save people to believe in God and all that. But converting literally is just sad. Like what I said before, you cannot change anybody but yourself.. so those apostles could just be a model to other people.

A believer does not only spread the 'word'.. he has many duties that are based on what he only believes in what the Bibles says. If he 'understands' God then he should know himself too.

I dunno.. just said those chunk of words because I am being hated in my school for not believing in God. stubborn.gif

I dislike Christianity really (even though I celebrate Christmas... I am Athiest though). I mean they have NO proof that there really IS a god but yet they still devote their whole life on worshipping him/her. Well, I guess that classifies for alot of religions... but Christianity, bothers me.

religion = cool

I think all religion is very interesting, and one might be true; however, all might be wrong. But trying to cram religion down people's throat is not cool. Jehovah's witnesses annoy me, cause they have this passive-agressive thing that's super..ANNOYING. I need more adjectives..

disliking a religion? RUDE! actually iam a catholic. in my opinion it is hurting to see your religion being disliked by other people because they just dont understand its teachings or what-so-ever reasons.. (whatever reason it is, still hurting).. its better to understand each other that we have different beliefs and rights to choose what we want to believe..

p.s.
people who hate catholics, iam not angry or what. i respect your opinion but if you have bad experience/s with catholics, well not all catholics are like them... understand and dont judge, we are free to voice out and choose... disliking a religion is weird and i repeat RUDE..

^ The people who have expressed their dislike for Christianity have given reasons why, and already explained that only some people try and do that. I think Steph gives a great point, that she doesn't hate or dislike the religion, only the people who force them on her.

And the people who dislike Christianity probably understand it more than you do, considering how often they get preached about it.

Why would you want to start a topic that asks people to state religions they don't like? For one, no one cares, and you know this is going to end up no good.

christianity.  becuase too many christians have tried to convert me, or save me.  and because of the actual religion, there are some aspects of it i can't accept, like homophobicness, and other stuff.

Yes, I agree... can't stand it at all.

I feel so hated. Good thing I'm not like most Christians. I barely call myself that because all I beleive in is Christ. I don't have to go around proving my beleifs right, thats just what I beleive. The reason everyone stated they dislike Christianity is the reason I dont go to church. However, I find it unfair to say you dislike christianity, dislike the Christians. Christianity itself does not teach preachyness and judging and running aorund condemning people and trying to force them to belive something. So dislike the people who follow it and warp it, not the Religion itself.

Thats exactly what im doing. Im not hating the people themselves, I have many friends who are hardcore christian's but I still have love for them, over the years they learned that no matter what I will not give into the belief of christ.

Not the people, what they believe in is what I don't like...

Umm... let me think... I'd probably choose not to understand Buddhism. No offense, but I think it's really complicated and so hard to understand, I don't believe in it either wacko.gif

I also dislike all of them.

But the Catholic Church I dislike the most.

I dislike there views on things like gay marriage and other things like that.

They're so strict too! My friend whose Catholic, anytime she does something even slightly wrong she has to go beg for forgivness or whatever.

I think I'd die if I was Catholic.. pinch.gif

I don't see why anyone would dislike someone's religion. It's the way they were grown up, I'm kind of able to accept anyone's religion, but that's just the way I was taught. So I agree and disagree with everyone. Unless it's a cult, then I blame them. wacko.gif
