Any Ti is good for all types of maths; but i have the ti-84 PLUS. It's the newest one with revamped buttons and stuff. It comes with a usb cable to load cool games and apps ;p.

My teacher said you dont even need a graphing calcular for alg. 2 and she's right. We hardly ever needed to graph anything on our calcs; it's just easier w/ a graph calc to do numbers.

Lucki, u guys are allowed graphing calculators!! I see some around but those kind of calculators aren't allowed in our exams so we have to hand draw it...........damnit.........calculators which memorise formulas and all that stuff we're not allowed, we're required to use only to buy some calculators.

what i don't get is WHY it's required in HS.. in all my college math classes, calculators are NOT ALLOWED.. u gotta graph everything by hand.. even the 2-D graphs.. for my HARDEST math class, we weren't even allowed a friggin cheat sheet..

but in HS they force u to become so dependent on a calculator that it totally screw people over in college!!

and they only let u use the simple $5 scientific calculators in chem/physics cuz they don't want u to cheat..

i still use my graphing calculator when i'm doing simple calculations cuz i'm used to it.. but still.. i thought public schools were suppose to be free..

the TI-83 PLUS is okay. i have it because my parents didn't want to get the more expensive one. its fine, but has much less memory than the TI-84 Plus for if you want to install programs. The TI-84 Plus Silver Edition looks pretty cool too...

An oldie but a goodie: TI 83+, i've had it since freshman year, the later versions are more expensive but i find that a TI 83+ is just fine for algebra, geometry and calc, there's really no need to buy a more expensive one.

I'm a freshman right now in Pre-Calculus, and I have a graphing calculator, a Ti-86. It's funny though, I don't think anyone really knows how to work a 86, only 83 or 89. Most of the kids have Ti-89 Titanium.

I hardly use it though, we used it for one or two classes earlier in the year, and today we used it too.

TI-89. They're pricey ($150 or so) but you can use them forever, even up through college and beyond.

And, of course, you can play Tetris on them.

The TI-89 is basically the TI-92. The TI-92 is no longer made by Texas Instruments; the TI-89 provides the same functions now. This is because the TI-92 is considered a computer, not a calculator, and thus cannot be used on many tests (including the SAT).

QUOTE(mipadi @ Jun 5 2005, 11:57 PM)
The TI-89 is basically the TI-92. The TI-92 is no longer made by Texas Instruments; the TI-89 provides the same functions now. This is because the TI-92 is considered a computer, not a calculator, and thus cannot be used on many tests (including the SAT).
*

no, they've rebranded the TI-92 as the voyager-200.

and, as life isn't all about tests, they still make it.

I have 2 TI-83+ my sister and I both need it...at the same time, so we were kinda forced to get another one. 89 is cool though... never have to factor a damn quadratic, etc. ever again! Although 84/5 can do that too... My H.S. doesn't allow anything above 84, though. And colleges around here don't allow above 85, I think.

geometry, YOU DO NOT NEED A GRAPHING CALCULATOR
all you learn in geometry is about shapes........

ALG 2, only need if you're really stupid with matrices, and probability
*you can do everything in alg2 with a scientific calculator, TRUST ME, just know how to work it.

PreCAL and up: you need graphing calculator

geez your schools are stupid ahah, makign you buy stuff you dont need

I have a Ti-83 PLUS and I suggest you get the Ti-89 Titanium since it makes all other calculators obsolete.

When you get into Pre-Cal and Calculus, you WILL NEED a graphing calculator unless your willing to work very hard.

I was in Algebra II/Trig, the teacher never let us use calculators, and we suffered....a lot. Yeah, but for Precalc H next year, I got the Ti-85 silver editioni. WOrks well, and a lot of people have it.
