yea, but with players that you can open up yourself, you can replace the battery for 60 bucks or so, while putting in a 24 hour+ battery.

i bought a first generation ipod right when they came out, so i've had it for about two and a half years. the battery has had some minor problems, but currently it's fine. i don't think it's that big of an issue.

i <3 iriver.
i haven't had to use thier warrenty- but they've been known to honor it 6 months after it expires. also, all you do is send the player and they send you a new player with all the accessories. |

oh, but other MP3 player's batteries last 3- 5 years, by which time you'll already have a new one.

Acids right, iRiver is the shit.
iPods just suck, you have no features and you cant compare to iRiver h10 or the Zen Micro. Crappy battery life, wasted amount of space, and a black and white screen. No FM radio included. h10 gives all the opposite, good battery life, reasonable space, color screen and free fm radio. Stupid ipods. And h10 has an external battery, you can also buy more batteries from the company. No worry from a stupid third party company. And whats up with the caps? |

What you have to realize is that it's not the time period that sets when your battery messes up. It's the amount of times you charge it.
Tips for Extending battery life [as in, the "life" before it becomes dead): Don't charge unless your iPod is in dire need of recharging, because this will wear down your battery more quickly. (Like cell phone batteries, after a certain amount of charges it starts deteriorating.) Do NOT use your charger in another country without an adapter/converter. This will REALLY burn out your iPod battery life extremely quickly. (I had to learn this the hard way, but my mom refused to buy me an adapter. not my fault :P) ---------------------------- Tips for saving battery (although some of this is common sense): When not using your iPod, put it on hold so it doesn't accidentally turn on. While you're listening to music, why not keep it on hold as well? Don't change songs a lot. Best if you just listen through all the songs in one playlist. Continuously changing songs can use up iPod battery life. I'm not quite sure how to explain it, but I've heard a lot of times that the iPod has to do something, sort of like spinning the hard disk so that it is full. I know i read this somewhere. Google it. Keep the backlight OFF if possible. It drains battery extremely fast. ------------------------------------- yeah i might have left some stuff out...tell me if i did i guess |

no, no, NO.
ipods, along with most DAPs, use Lithium-ion or Lithium-Polymer batteries. these will last longest when NOT drained fully. top up charges will make it last the longest. the whold battery drain, initial charge, etc. are all holdovers from the NiCad age of batteries. yes, keeping the backlight short will help. not changing songs will help, because the ipod will refill the buffer, spinning the hard-disk if you change songs. HOWEVER: the greatest effect on battery life is the processor. If you have Higher bitrates, it will use more power to decode. MP3 is the best for battery. i'm not sure if the ipod has 3-d sound rendering (where it calculates and adds slight echo, etc. to make it sound like you're in a room, listening to speakers), but that also drains the battery. |

In some cases, first-generation iPods have lost battery life after about eighteen months. However, it's rare. A friend of mine, in fact, has one of the original iPods, and has experienced no problems.
iPods use Lithium ion batteries, and all Li-ion batteries lose life after a few years of use, but it's not a huge problem. |
