copying my post in Lounge:
QUOTE in short, as long as you sign up to a website which required your email / name / any info. its illegal unless your above 13 years old. for more info: http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm So when someone under 13 joins, its considered illegal, and some (paul murphy for eample) become spammers. the last forum i had which was an Invision fourm btw, got taken down because we had people under 13 on it. So i'm just saying, for the love of god add a age verifyer in the sign up page. |

yes but if we dont give that chance to put in there birthday at sign up, its considered our fault / illegal for us. if they lie, they did the illegal act. Therefore they would be in trouble compared to all of us

he's right... if people lie, it's not your fault. if you dont give them the opportunity to tell the truth, then it is your problem... |

Actually, I agree. Its illegal for anyone under 13 to submit information. Please, we don't want CB to be closed. If the people lie, it would be their faults and CB won't be held accountable. But at least have an age verifyer to show we tried.
Cmon. |

I just lie about my age. Well, I am 12. If the website says that you have to be over 13 to sign up, I lie and put that I'm 15.

For starters, let me awake my inner conservative and support that this is for the protection of those that might not be fully aware of the decisions that they make. Sure, an 11 year can be smart enough to fill out a form at a secured websites be is able to take accountability for what he's doing?

i thought about this before. age on computers.
liek when someone gets a new computer the companies should put a date for birthday and whenever they go to any sites they could be blocked cause the computer would tell the website that, that site is blocked. do you know what i mean. people would never consider age being verified during the beginning of installation of internet. |

how would they add an age verifier? the people could just lie. like one time i wanted to sign up for yahoo and they wouldn't let me because i was too young so i just put an older age. so i don't know how they could find out how old the people really were but i find this weird. why would they make it 18 instead of 13?

making an age verifier is just a 'cover my butt' thing, because with that, it's the kid's fault.

it's difficult to enforce, but some organizations have required parent permission and verified this through credit card/social security numbers. i remember that my parents refused to reveal those, however, when i wanted to join something online..

I dont think people can really do anything about kids lying about their age. How would people verify their age? I dont think they can really ask people for a credit card number for parental permission because many people wouldnt want to reveal it. I think the most that someone can do is put a warning for kids under 13 or make a kid-version of the website.

1. this isn't a debate, it needs to be moved.
2. it doesn't matter if kids can lie about thier age. if you allow kids under 13 to give away information, it's breaking the law. |

On myspace, over half of the people aren't even 16. You're supposed to be 16+.
Hell, when I first joined cB ( I had other usernames), I was twelve. I think everyone does it. Should we all go to jail then? It's stupid. People will lie anyway to get on a forum site/blog site/ whatever. And it's their own fault for trampling into something they're not supposed to. It's wrong to close down an internet site for that. |

Aren't there like, 9 year olds on this site?
And aren't most of the people in createblog like, 13-14? i don't really like the 12 and younger kids like paul murphy. a lot of them are spammers and don't know what the heck they're doing. |

I thought the youngest was 11...or 10. Man, you know how much the internet affects young kids? It's called the media. Kids younger than 13 should stay away from the internet unless it's for hw. But, some parents don't even have parental controls...or choose not to set it up. |
