I think the Xbox 360 is going to be terrible. I heard it cannot be back compatible with the original Xbox games. PS3 is going to dominate the console gaming :-( .

The real deal. What a ripoff. Does the controller look familiar (hint: i'm thinking of a word that starts with a 'd' and ends with a 'reamcast')? |

depends on where the L and R buttons are...
and how the memory slot is set up... i wonder what that color scheme reminds me of... starts with an i and ends in a pod. made by a fruit. wow, they're pulling out all the stops on innovation this time... |

don't forget the camera in the corner of the first pic.
where have I seen that before? maybe something that starts with an "e", and ends with an "yetoy"! (Ok, that one was really bad. You get the point, they copied Playstation's EyeToy.) |

i think the only thing they didn't steal from someone else is the headset. unless the original xbox stole it...
hmm... i'm waiting for games to go back to the cartridge system. becuase DVDs just run out of room, games would be on hard drive platters (in a protective cartridge), and the console had read heads that read it. like a floppy disk. except, no write heads. now that would be innovation. |

meh, microsoft is shooting itself in the foot with this one. they're essentially competing with themselves in the media pc market.
microsoft is taking console gaming in the wrong direction here. they're trying to capture console gaming and make it pc gaming. merging with the 360 thread. |

things aren't looking too great for xbox 360 already. even steve ballmer has called the pre release demos a disaster. in fact, microsoft was forced to bring it's own supporters to applaud for the xbox 360. they had to pay people to clap!

I bet if Apple actually did make a console, there would probably be 5 games for it, and it would cost 2gzzzzzzzzz........ Xbox360, looks a little bulky. The new PS2 is half it's previous size, so why not show up sony, and make their console smaller; meh maybe something to come in the future. I like the faceplates, that's a nice touch. |

If I got an xbox 360 it would be for 2 reasons, Perfect Dark Zero, and the amazing online interface they showed at E3.
Yes, the controllers are a rip from DC, but so were the originals. They were just fatter, less comfortable, and black (With a tint of green if you noticed). Hired applauders? Sad. I DID think it odd when the guy said that the 360 would be backwards compatible with the "top selling xbox titles", rather than EVERY ONE. The supposed eyetoy rip is infact not one, its supposed to be used as a webcam of sorts for video chat via xbox live. Stating that a color scheme is ripped from something is just pathetic. Thats like saying that the Black and Decker Wet/Dry Vacs they sell at Sears are ripping their color scheme off of my old high school, both of which are red and black. Colors dont mean a thing, especially not in terms of ripping people off. OH NO, THE CONSOLE IS WHITE!! Jeez. |

Microsfot Claims that they won't be able to produce enough Xbox 360's to meet demand. I SAY A LOAD OF BS. Sony did the same exact thing with the PS2 to artificially inflate the price. Don't fall for this scam, there will be plenty of Xbox 360s to go around. |

The computing capabilities of the Xbox 360, if true, are quite amazing. Three PowerPC processors, each handling two threads, for a total of six threads at once? Stunning. I'm impressed.
Not getting one, though. I don't console game anymore. Don't game much anymore, at all. But a 360 would almost be worth it for Perfect Dark alone. I loved PD for N64--still play it even now. I was disappointed when MS bought Rare and cancelled PD for the 'Cube. I'm glad to see they have restarted the project, because Perfect Dark is by far my favorite first-person shooter. It's one of the view that combine an interesting and engaging story with good gameplay. |

Xbox 360 will launch for $300, games will be $60.
So if you buy the console and one game, the price will be $360. |

According to CNN.com the price of the Xbox 360 will vary.
300$ will get you a console, one controller that attaches through a wire, and your basic a/v cable. An extra 100$ will get you a console, wireless controller, headset, the 20gig hard drive, and for a limited time, a wireless remote for use with the console's various other multimedia functions. Theyre even going to give you preloaded songs, videos, and other things onto the hard drive. |

I think I'll opt for the cheaper SKU.
That is, if I want it. If Perfect Dark Zero isn't all it's hyped up to be, I will lose interest in the 360. [edit]Wow, the cheaper version stinks. I didn't know it wouldn't be Live and HD compatible. Don't even consider getting the $299 version. It's just not worth it. |

for all the look issues the xbox haters have, why not look at the wonderfully sculpted PS3 controller? looks like an ugly ass boomerang.
the cheaper one is live compatible, it just wont come with live automatically. and the HD is detachable. the cheaper one is just the same with less accessories. one big thing xbox has over PS3 is xbox live. Playstation's doesnt even come close |

QUOTE(kryogenix @ May 17 2005, 7:04 PM) meh, microsoft is shooting itself in the foot with this one. they're essentially competing with themselves in the media pc market. microsoft is taking console gaming in the wrong direction here. they're trying to capture console gaming and make it pc gaming. merging with the 360 thread. http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=55865 well, the ps3 is apparently going the same "direction" as the xbox. DVR, dvd burner... etc. plust it will debut higher than the xbox. they seemed to have copied the microsoft strategy and are selling a "bare bones" one and a much higher priced one. and the other one is 500 dollars. |

Honestly, who is going to buy a "server" PS3 and a bunch of standalones?
Games used to be about family. They used to gather groups of kids and adults alike around one screen to create a family dynamic. It was like having a family dinner, but entertaining. And now its just become a cash cow, something people try to make more money in, or make more and more advanced, when FUN cant be advanced, technologically or otherwise. |

QUOTE(sadolakced acid @ Sep 18 2005, 9:03 PM) how about agaming cafe, where you pay money and play with your friends on a nice couch in front of a 66 inch plasma screen? not sure if they exist, but they could. Ok maybe in japan they do that, but Ive never seen a place like that that didnt prodominatnly use computers instead of game systems. And it is aimed at families, not businesses. |

SKU means stock keeping unit. There are two Xbox360 SKU's. The Core package, which is the $299 package, and the $399 Premium package. The $299 package should not even be sold, in my opinion. |

Or do you have to be upgraded to play? BTW, Im not getting one unless I win it from mountain dew, of which I have 5 caps now, so yay!! |

I'm certainly impressed by the technical specifications of the Xbox 360 (especially from an engineering standpoint), but it does make me wonder: does a gaming system really need all that power?

I think so. With that much power, we won't need as much disc space to store prerendered FMVs, which are causing game sizes to skyrocket (FF7, I blame you). The console can use the games engine to create a scene that looks just as good as a prerendered FMV. What worries me is that Sony and Microsoft are planning on using new drives that can hold more information. While this may not be a bad thing, I am worried that this will allow the developers to stay lazy and use FMVs. Plus, the AI should be better. |

And it's not just Final Fantasys fault. There are other games that used the multi disk function. Remember Metal Gear Solid? Hey, even Rival Schools used it, not continuaslly. (spelling is wrong) But they still used it. Also the Blu-Rays are gonna cost wayy much more. Same thing with the hd-dvd but not as much. |

i played the xbox 360 at best buy. i got to play a demo of call of duty 2.
let me just say. sickest thing ive ever played. i played that same level about 4 times before i had to go without getting bored or anything. its freakin intense, god i love that game, this might make me change my mind about waiting for the ps3. you should have saw it, they had so much security over the 360 haha. glass cases, bolts, metal, alarm, you wouldve thought it was like the crown of king Tut or something lol. |

i want games that aren't just preordained action.
like.. if you want an action game, then make a game around battle royale. make it like battle royale. exactly, but with different characters. don't concentrate on good graphics. current gen graphics are fine. devote most the processing power to having 40 some odd computer controled characters that will hide if you come at them with a gun and they have a fork, instead of standing there stupidly trying to hit you with the fork. and how about a naval game, where you're in charge of a ship? i don't think there's one of those. and they you could have an 18th century version. and a pirate version. and a submarine version. `sigh. all this processing power, and all it goes towards is some prettier lakes and rocks. very open to sequels, just have different personalities, different characters, different weapons, and a different island. and such. and then like for racing games, where's the crashes? i played one with these great graphics, but the car was invincible. it wouldn't crunch. i hit other cars, they spun out, but remained intact. would be fun to see a pit crew run around the car, and occasionally mess up. and halo. i tried to play halo. (well halo two). all i saw were aliens that you randomly shot at. wasn't really fun, if you ask me. characters in the game kept directing me where to go. still rather confusing. i must say the alien guts looked quite good tho. how about a heist game with no guns? i'm sure there's probably a heist game, but i'll bet that you still carry a gun and you still battle the guards. that'd be an interesting one- put in a racing part of it too. |

They do improve on everything not just good graphics^ i mean if you actually play the games like i did, you'll see a big difference in gameplay. check out gametrailers.com or something if you wanna see the ps3 and 360 games actually played.
they made the AI incredibly smart in all the demos i played even Kameo. like in Call of Duty the people just dont wait around for you to shoot them. they try to flank your squad and crap, and actually out smart you. i mean they did that in previous console games so you should know most good games now the AI dont act stupid anymore. infact the graphics on the xbox 360 werent as good as i anticipated, i mean dont get me wrong they were great, but they were kinda like graphics on a very high end computer game. so they definately focused on gameplay. and when i also played ghost recon 3, and alot of other demos like Kameo and such. the games are just..... i cant explain it, the entertainment value went up in ways that previous consoles just cant do. which makes them more fun and addictive and a totally different experience. your depiction on what the games are offereing is very incorrect my good sir. QUOTE and then like for racing games, where's the crashes? i played one with these great graphics, but the car was invincible. it wouldn't crunch. i hit other cars, they spun out, but remained intact. would be fun to see a pit crew run around the car, and occasionally mess up. you dont no much about games do you? lol ever heard of "Burnout"? you say you want a pit crew, look at this gran turismo

hmmm... can you run over the pit crew? they improve upon existing gameplay no doubt, but not on fundamentals, like the point of the game and all... |

In fairness, IIRC, some developers have said they will use the additional power to create better AI. Also, try Forza Motorsport for the XBOX if you want to play a racing game with crashes. I play NavyField, an MMORPG, which is controlling a ship. |
