It depends on your screen resolution..to check your screen resolution, go to the Control Panel, and then Appearances and Themes, and then Change the Screen Resolution.

Yes, it would, but you can always make it really huge and make the overflow-x hidden.

Most people have 1024x768, but that's small for me and other people. I suggest you not make a bg that big. It would be ridiculous cause it would take a while to load.

Overflow x is just hiding the horizontal scrollbar.

No, guess not.
But, what you coud do is have a repeating background both left and right so that on everyone's screen, they can see the background. It sort of stretches, although it's not like stretching. |

wouldnt that look somewhat tacky? to have a duplicate pic right beside so u only see part of it? personally it'd look better if u had a single one on scroll lock..

If you want to see an example of the large background and the hidden horizontal scrollbar, go to my portfolio. The link is in my signature. The main page with the blend, if you click and highlight while moving your mouse to the right, you'll see that it extends farther.

Little icons meaning a small pattern that you can repeat both horizontally and vertically? There is a pattern maker in Photoshop, but it's not as good as making one yourself. You just need a little creativity. =]
