my cuzin just got this new pink shirt that says "everyone loves a southern girl" and i asked her "you are actually proud to be southern?" and she said "well i don't have much of a choice" and i said "well i hate it. i am quite ashamed to be one." i have lived in florida my whole life and i hate it! all the stupid palms trees should die! and the beach can go w/ them. i hate being southern! i do not have an accent though thank god. are you proud to be southern if you are?

um, no, not necessarily.

where i live its not particularly bad. its the nice, upeer-middle class suburbia, so its not redneck, and we dont have accents (coughsammi). however, i do not particularly enjoy being from the south because it is automatically associated with these things.

You don't have to get upset over a shirt. I am a southern girl myself. They have an "Everyone loves a Northern girl" shirt too, I bet, or whatever part you live in. I am representing the Big South side to the fullest! Lol. You should be proud where you're from anyway.

oh! now i understand why my school made "everyone loves a norcross girl/boy" shirts for a fundraiser.

(note: i myself did NOT buy one of these as with the 07 on the back they were one of the most hideous things ever imo, i have no school spirit, and i completely disagree with the message seeing as i hate most norcross girls)

Anyway, why are you so ashamed of your homestate? Is it because people make Florida?(dumb jokes) If that is the reason, you have nothing to be ashamed of...I mean come on, I don't think any state has a worse wrap than Texas...

i mean, you're stuck being a Southerner all your life.
see, even if you don't like your school, don't you shout "GO (your shcool mascot here)" all the time at sports anyways?

Wait wait wait.. I never thought of Florida as "southern" or states that border the Atlantic. I always referred to states that bordered the Atlantic coast as Eastern. I refer to the states that border the Pacific coast as Western. And then I refer to all the states in between.. like around Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Mississippi, etc. as Southern.. And Montana, Idaho, Wisconsin, etc. as Northern.

And if you hate being southern, then oh well.. in the future just move to another state that's not in the south. sweating.gif I'm um.. proud to be a "Westerner" tongue.gif

HAHAHAA... cough... umm...

you see, florida's not 'south' in the way that alabama, georgia, and mississippi are south.

florida is more like the north because of the northern people who move there.

I wouldn't call Florida "southern." Southern is more....tennesee and mississippi-like.

I hate it how people automatically assume that everyone who lives in the south are rednecks. -_-" No, not everyone in the south has no front teeth and wears overalls all the time.

im from the northeast, and im completely happy with that. I couldn't see myself living in the south, west, or midwest because all I think of are "farms, cows, accents, and George W. Bush". I'd feel really out of place, since I'm a hardcore ABB liberal.

But now my parents have decided to move us all to hell... AKA South Carolina. Hicksville, USA. Well, atleast i have my 4 year rampage in Nevada to look back on. Well, I'm from Southeastern Ohio, and people kinda make fun of us with the sterotypical West Virginian stuff, espcially since I'm like 10 min away from the border, So, yeah, i get kind of mad about that

People think we are uneducated, and that we ar all inbred, Which really, is wrong...

Anyway, so, sometimes I hate living where I do, (even thoughI am up north)

umm...okay...first off, I'm southern, and there are no palm trees where I live. I live in Texas. And second off, I have no accent. And third, I love being southern. I love the fect that walk around and see people of all races. theres a hell of a lot more racial tolerance in the south. I went to North Dakota for a month, and I swear I was the only not white person I saw the whole time. I mean, I went to the zoo and people stared at me likeI was one of the animals. I'm greateful that I wasnt born in some backwards all white nigger hating town...even tho I'm only have blakc they still look down on me. I love being in the south because there are black, hispanics, asians, whites, puarto ricans, hatians, indians...all different types of people. At least it is in Texas. And I spent the last 2 weeks in florida, and personally love everything but the weather out here. But thats just cuz I hate rain, and it rained the first week I was here. So yeah. And I would much rather have the south and heat than friggin snow. and dont get me wrong, I dont think all northern states are like north dakota, but dangit, Id rather be in texas than anywhere else. And why are you complaining? Just leave when you get old enough. I'm assuming you arent old enough because if you were you probably would have left by now. But really...I dont even consider florida southern as much as I consider it the east coast. The culture out here is a lttle different. But dont be a hater. Be proud. You live in the most diverse country in the world. No hating. Oh and ot the person who said all they think of is farms...I've lived in texas all of my life, and I have never seen a farm. Ever. There are cities ya know. you know with tall buildings and highways?

Anyway, why are you so ashamed of your homestate? Is it because people make Florida?(dumb jokes) If that is the reason, you have nothing to be ashamed of...I mean come on, I don't think any state has a worse wrap than Texas...

Wow.

If you think about it, living in the south isn't that bad, minus the stereotypes and such. The only reason why we hate it is because of gwinnett county...

perhaps, but one can never talk about how they hate norcross enough. i got mad the other day about new science curriculum which led me to thinking about my chem grade, which made me think about my algebra grade, which left me crying hysterically. ok, thats irrelevant, but if i wnet to another school, i wouldnt have to deal with this shit

that really wasnt what i meant. of course you have to take aglegbra and chem in other schools

the key part of a was that i was born here, and so there is no reason that i should have to be proud of that. thats not necessarily an opinion, becuase i wasnt referring to myself, even if i made it sound like it by using personal pronouns

and c is not an opinion at all, and isnt meant to prove anything either, except that he has not evidence that she comes from a great home, and even if she did, that has nothing to do with this

yes, but everything is an opinion, so what does that matter. even facts are opinions when someone disagrees. one opinion can certainly be more correct than the other, but that doesnt make them opinions any less. take, for example, the debate on christianity and catholicism in debate. kris and i had opposing opinions, and while mine was right and factual, it was an opinion nonetheless because it was her incorrect opinion that was wrong

thats a load of crap.

'my t-shirt is blue' that is not an opinion, its a fact.

'i look good in blue' is an opinion. and the flip side, 'i dont look good in blue' cannot be said to be more or less correct, except by people who hold the first opinion, which therefore subjects their view, significantly weakening their argument

but its less factual to someone who is colorblind

to a dog (dont they see colors differently? if not, substitue other animal here) it doesnt appear blue, but whatever color they see is their reality. its fact to them, reguardless of what the majority sees.

of course its not. just because someone is unable to observe the fact doesnt mean the fact isnt true. i t just means that the fact is less useful to them

if i shout near a deaf person, that is a fact. i ahev just shouted. just bc a deaf person didnt hear it, doent mean i didnt do it

what? thats complete speculation. lets pick another atribute. my ruler is twelve inches long. its in another room. i cant see it. therefore, if i choose to say that the ruler isnt twelve inches long, then does that mean that the ruler's length has been altered? b/c its not an opinion that the ruler is a different length. its denial, or incorrectness.

but theres always the doubt. it could have been a defective ruler, and not in fact have been 12 inches long, and you wouldnt know that because you were in another room. thus, you could argue with someone in the room that it was that length and have your opinion be incorrect. nothing is ever truly factual, theres always that margin of error

no nicki. im saying that this ruler was 12 inches long.

i could argue that it wasnt. but it would be an OPINION. it would be a falsehood, or a misinterpretation, or just being wrong.

for instance. you saying that being born somewhere isnt reason to be proud of that place, cannot be proved one way or the other. opinion.
you saying my t-shirt isnt blue. i could show you the shirt, and prove you incorrect.

facts can be proven, opinions cannot truly be proven one way or the other

that would be why were having this disagreement then. because i was not saying that being born in a place isnt a reason to be proud, i was saying that just because you were born somewhere, it doesnt mean you have to be proud of it. if you were born in the slums, would you have to be proud of it just because you were born there? of course not.

I've been living in Las Vegas over half of my life. I can't say I love it very much, but I am not ashamed. It's interesting to see people's impressions of what people of Las Vegas are like. Sometimes, I hate how the people here are unfriendly.

I am however, truly proud of being from Canada. Everything there makes me want to show off to the world that I am from there.

It's really your choice whether you are proud or not...but since you're living there anyway, life is just harder if you don't appreciate it.
